Rejected And Forsaken -
Chapter 5
Devin pov.
To say that I am angry would be an understatement. I was pissed off to no end. The school principal called me to inform that David had run off. When I arrived at the school, I was shown a video of David beating three kids down to a pulp. What I knew was, David is not the kind of boy who would attack with out a reason. When I questioned about it, they didn’t have an answer. All what they knew was Michael, Taylor and Nolan were beaten up.
I snarled at the three who were seated in front of me in the principal’s office. All of them cowered in front of me. After all I was their alpha. “Tell me what really happened.” I sneered. “You better tell me or else I will make you tell me what happened.” I growled at them. By now, they were trembling in fear. No one would want to be punished by their alpha. I glared at Michael, the who seemed to be their leader. His brown hair was now matted to his forehead with sweat. He kept on fiddling with his fingers nervously.
“Michael.” I boomed. He suddenly he dropped on to his knees. “Alpha. I am sorry. I….. I…..” He stammered. I narrowed my eyes at him. “I am sure you did something. David did tell me about being bullied. He just didn’t tell me who did it.” The principal stared at us with his mouth agape. “I…. I was…. I am sorry alpha. Please forgive us.” He started to beg. The principal sat in his seat, with his mouth wide open. I can’t believe that he didn’t know about these three bullies.
“You bullied him.” I stated and he lowered his head in shame. Nolan and Taylor were trying their best to avoid my eyes. “All three of you! Submit!” I ordered. Soon all of them were down on their knees trembling and shaking in fear. “I am ashamed of you. He is your future alpha. How dare you bully him. Forgiving is up to him. Not to me. You better pull yourselves together.” I said and pointed a finger at the school head. “Mr.Black. I really think that you should look into children’s behaviour better than this.” I said and walked briskly out of the office. I jogged out of the school and my eyes zeroed at the woods.
“Hey Damon, you think we can replace David?” I asked my wolf. He huffed and nodded. I ran towards the woods, shifting as I ran to my black wolf. Damon sniffed the air and followed David’s scent. It lead us deep in to the forest. My heart broke a little as Damon took us further in to the thick wilderness. How hurt must my David be to run off like that. Damon ran until we reached the river and sniffed the air again. He took cautious steps towards the bushes. Just then, a wolf jumped right at us. He pinned us down and growled in to my face before softening a little.
“Dad?” he spoke in a gruff voice and stood up. I was shocked. “Damon, is this….. shift back.” I said and soon I was in my human form. I quickly wore the pair of shorts I was carrying and faced my son. “David?” I asked in utter amazement. He was a wolf alright. But a wolf unlike any of us. He looked bigger and stronger than any of us. He was even bigger than my wolf, which is the biggest and strongest in our pack.
“Dad.” He answered. My eyes widened in surprise. “You can talk!” I gasped. “Can you shift back?” I asked. “Concentrate on your human form.” I told him. He closed his glowing red eyes and it took a while for him to morph back to his human form. What surprised me more was that he was still clothed. While every wolf including me had to carry shorts around to cover ourselves. David sure was a special one.
“Dad. I got my wolf. But why am I so different?” he asked. I smiled. “Different is good. Specially if it is better. Your wolf definitely is stronger, and wiser. It can even talk. We haven’t even trained yet but still you are stronger than me. I am very proud of you David.” I told him. He chuckled. “Now, don’t you dare say that you cannot be alpha. You must become alpha when it is time.” I said. He smiled and nodded.
“Let’s go home?” He suggested. I nodded. He needed a break. We strolled through the woods as I remembered something Marsha had told me on the day he was born.
“You know David, your mother had told me that she saw a dream that day, during you birth. You will be the strongest wolf of your time.” I told him, making him look at me in complete shock. “Wow.” He whispered. “But remember David. You must use your power for good. No power comes without a responsibility.” He nodded and we made our way back home.
My mind was completely occupied with different thoughts. It was said that Marsha’s ancestors were powerful. They consisted of the great lycans. But it has been a thousands of years since the last lycan emerged. People now narrate stories about lycans as folk stories. We all thought it was a myth. I looked at my son. Was he a lycan? I couldn’t deny what I had just seen with my own eyes. Whatever it was, he was my son and I will love him till my last breath.
As soon as we arrived at the pack house I hastened to the library to finally read a book that I had been ignoring ever since Marsha moved in with me. It was a book about lycans. Her parents had given it to her as a gift. She cherished it since it was a gift from her parents though we never really read what was in it. After she died, I had placed it carefully in the library, so that anyone who wanted to read it can. After all, folklore stories are interesting. But now, I no longer think it was a myth. Perhaps all what it contained was true.
I walked in and took the old book which was now dusty. I brushed the dust away before carrying it to the table. I opened the crisp pages with care, which were now old and yellow. It sure seemed like and old book. The first page contained an old drawing of a wolf like creatu
re that looked exactly like David’s wolf. So I was right. David is a lycan.
As I read the book, I learnt that the lycans were the strongest living mystical creatures. They were stronger than the vampires, immune to silver and wolfsbane, and they were smarter and stronger than a regular wolf. They sounded like a magical creature which only was too good to be true.
“Wow!” I said to myself. No wonder everyone thought that they were a myth. They were just unbelievably strong. They practically had no weakness. My thoughts travelled back to my boy. There was no doubt that he was definitely stronger than me, a trained alpha when he pinned me down. I wonder how tactful and how strong he actually could be after being trained. I hurried back to his room where he was resting.
“Dad! I was hoping to see you soon. Look! My nose is completely healed now!” he told me excitedly. I nodded and smiled at him. Since his wolf had woken up, his senses and healing would have accelerated. “So have you spoken to your wolf yet?” I asked and he nodded.
“His name is Finn and he said something about being lycans” he told me. I nodded. “I thought it was a myth.” He exclaimed.
“Actually, we all thought it was a myth. We thought it was just a folklore. But I guess we were wrong. I’ve checked a book that belonged to your mother. It was said that she is a descendant of the lycans. But we all thought that those were just made up stories. But it seems that it was not.” I told him. And he listened to me with wide open eyes, dumbfounded by all the new information.
“Where is this book?” He asked.
“In the library. You should read it.” I told him. “Maybe I can remove it from the library. After all it was your mother’s. And you have every right over it.” I said. I noticed how his baby blue eyes glossed with tears. He never really owned what belonged to his dead mother. “I would love that.” He whispered. I felt my own eyes sting as tears gathered in them. Anything related to my beloved mate made me emotional.
“I will bring it for you. And tonight we can go through it together.” I said. He sighed. “I’ll be waiting for that.” He said.
I left him to do some of his school work so that I also can attend my duties. Should I keep his lycan as a secret? Or should I expose him to everyone? That, we will decide tonight.
This day couldn’t get any longer. I tried to focus on my work but it was hard with all the thoughts. Finally, I managed to finish the day’s work right before dinner. My beta agreed to take care of the little things so I rushed towards the library and took it with me. The librarian didn’t question as it was just me. I hurried to his room.
He opened the door after a few knocks. “Dad. You finished early.” He said, clearly pleased about it. I nodded. “Yes. And here is the book I told you about. “ I said handing him the book. He took it and kept it carefully on the study table in his room. He handled it with so much care, as if that was the most precious thing that he ever had.
“Let’s have dinner together and then we can look through it.” I told him. He agreed and we went downstairs. The elders were already in the dining room. I looked at David who shrugged. But his jaw clenched a little. The elder’s presence always made him uneasy.
“Here comes the curse.” Elder Arnold muttered under his breath, but with our enhanced senses we could clearly hear it. I rolled my eyes and muttered, just like he did. “looser”
He narrowed his eyes at me. “What did you say alpha Devin?” he asked. I smirked.
“Oh did I say anything? I don’t know.” I replied with a raised eyebrow at him. I sat on my chair and gestured David to sit beside me. David was trying hard not to laugh. It was such breath of fresh air to see his mood uplifted for a change. We had dinner and went upstairs to read the book.
We found out that lycans shift later than normal werewolves. Most of the time the first shift is triggered by something important. I looked at him. It was about time I asked him about the bullying in school.
“You know David. I was called in to school today. And I’ve found out that you beat up three kids. Care to tell what had happened?” I asked. His eyebrows knitted together.
“They always call me names and put me down. But when they called my mom a loser something in me just snapped.” He told me. I say his jaw muscles clench together. He was clearly frustrated. “What did they say?” I asked, my own b***d boiling in anger. How dare they call my mate a loser? I will make those three pups see what a real loser is.
David looked at me and studied my face. “You are going to beat them up.” He stated. I laughed a little. I should have known he would figure that out. He was one smart cookie. He shook his head. “Dad, I’ve already beaten them up. I will beat them again if I have to. But I don’t think it is necessary to beat them twice for one offence.” He said.
I smirked. “I think I want to let them spar with you. Let’s see who a real looser is.” I said and his eyes widened. “But dad! I just got my wolf. I am not trained….” he started to panic. I simply placed my hand over his. “I know you can buddy. You are stronger than my wolf, and I am a fully trained alpha. Trust me. You are going to kick their a*s.” I sensed that he relaxed a bit.
“We will start training this weekend. And after you all graduate, training will be everyday. Since you are the next alpha in line, your training sessions will be harder and longer.” I expected him to protest or g***n in frustration, like most teen agers do. However, his eyes lit up in excitement and a wide grin spread across his face. I smiled. He was going to be a great alpha. I just know it.
