Return Of The Prodigy
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 13

Having taken care of the housing problem, Adam and Katie returned to the Hartley Group

Upon entering the company, Peter immediately called them to the meeting room. Various department leaders were present, along with Terry and Dave. Matilda was probably hospitalized.

"Hehe, back so soon? Did you get the money, Katie?" Peter asked with a smile, a fleeting trace of resentment in his eyes.

Damn it, Dominick didn't even disable them. Truly useless!

However, their round trip took only a little over two hours. In such a short time, they couldn't have gotten the money. Perhaps they didn't even enter the gates of the Pierrot Group.

Katie didn't answer immediately; instead, she asked, "Are your previous words still valid?"

"Of course, I'm a man of my word, and everyone here can attest to it. However, dear Cousin, you shouldn't back out. Everyone here can testify. But you shouldn't have any regrets, we agreed earlier. If you don't bring the money back, you'll never be allowed to return," Peter said with a cold smile.

He didn't believe Dominick would pay up.

Who was Dominick? A notorious ruffian and rogue. Even if he went, it was impossible to get the money. What significance did Katie have?

"Dear Cousin, don't waste everyone's time. I see you've already prepared to pack up. Are you here to clean up?" Peter continued, a mocking tone in his voice.

"Go quickly. I'm discussing the details of the vacation manor with department leaders. I don't have time to deal with your nonsense."

"Remember to clean up thoroughly and throw the trash outside. After all, trash should be swept out. Quickly go, I'm not interested in watching you make a scene."

Katie remained calm, showing no signs of anger, as if she hadn't sensed Peter's snarky remarks.

"Grandfather, please witness this for us," Katie said.

Dave's gaze sharpened, and he snorted, "Speak quickly, don't waste everyone's time."

Katie raised her head confidently and said, "The money, I've received it."

Whoosh.

The meeting room fell into dead silence. The next moment, discussions erupted.

"Really received it?"

"Impossible. After all, that account has been bad for over two years."

"Must be lying. Can this story pass? Just ask the finance department."

"Hahaha." Peter laughed loudly, "Director of Finance, did the money from the Pierrot Group arrive?"

The finance minister immediately shook his head, "No."

"Hehe, Katie, your lie is too basic. I suggest you quickly pack up and leave. Don't embarrass yourself here."

"Hartleys family doesn't raise useless freeloaders."

Peter was extremely pleased.

In fact, he was able to smoothly drive Katie out, largely thanks to Adam, this useless person. It was all thanks to his timely assistance.

However, leaving this vile woman like this was letting her off too easily. Later, he had to arrange for someone to deal with them, subjecting them to the humiliation of kneeling. How could this insult go unavenged? "Why are you still standing here? What are you doing?" Dave frowned and coldly shouted.

Katie remained composed and spoke, "Adam, open the bag."

Adam swung his big hand.

Bang.

The hefty woven bag landed on the conference table.

"What are you doing? Take your stinking bag out of here. If you dirty the documents, I'll have you..."

Whoosh!

Adam unzipped the bag, lifted it with both hands, and bundles of banknotes rained down on the office desk. Five hundred and eighty bundles quickly formed a small mountain. Peter's words came to an abrupt halt, his eyes widened in disbelief.

The others in the meeting room were equally shocked.

This...

Did it really arrive? And in cash?

Katie enjoyed the astonishment on everyone's faces. She had never felt so triumphant before.

"This is the account from the Pierrot Group, five million eight hundred thousand. Not a penny more, not a penny less. Peter, do you want to count it?" Katie said.

Peter was left speechless, unable to utter a word.

How could this be possible? How could that ruffian Dominick obediently pay up?

It was unreal!

He really wanted to say that the money was fake, and Dominick couldn't possibly pay. However, this excuse was too low-level, just like his sarcastic remarks to Katie earlier.

Whether the money was real or fake could be easily verified, and everyone present wasn't foolish.

"Grandfather, I've collected the debt, so the construction project for the resort should be returned to me, right?" said Katie with a hopeful look in her eyes.

Dave's face darkened; he had never despised money as much as he did at this moment.

"Hmph, why are you so pleased with yourself? Collecting the debt was the bare minimum you could do as a member of the family. It should not be a bargaining chip for you to discuss conditions with me," said Dave with a snort. Katie was stunned. "But Grandfather, you said-"

"Shut up. I have the final say in every matter related to the Hartleys. Moreover, do you really think that you collected the debt without help? The reason things went so smoothly is that Peter gave Dominick Pierrot a call when you left. That's why you managed to collect the debt," said Dave.

"Yeah, that's right! I gave Dominick Pierrot a call as soon as they left. You can even check my call history if you don't believe me," Peter hurried to produce his smartphone and held it for everyone to see, hoping that the credit for the deed would go to him. The people in the meeting room immediately showed a look of realization.

"I told you, how could she possibly get the money? It turns out Peter helped them."

"Yeah, a pair of useless people. If they could get the money, the sun would rise from the west."

"Hehe, Peter helped them, but instead of being grateful, they even bite back. Truly malicious."

A group of people chattered, ridiculing Peter, all supporting Dave.

Peter's stiff face gradually resumed its smile.

With Grandpa backing him up and so many people supporting him, what did he have to fear?

Trying to take the vacation manor project from him? No way!

"Katie, can't you understand human language? Be sensible and leave. Don't struggle here," Dave said with a cold expression.

"Katie, didn't you hear what the directors said? You should take the hint and leave. Please don't waste everyone's time any further."

She originally didn't want to mention Peter calling Dominick, as she didn't want to confront Hartleys unless absolutely necessary. But now, Grandpa was so biased, Peter lied through his teeth in front of everyone, even passing off the call he had made as part of a disgusting plan to get rid of them as something done to help them, instead. "You... you guys..."

"How could you be so shameless? Can't distinguish right from wrong, black from white? Have you no conscience at your age?"

"Or is it possible that you're so stupid that you forgot what you told Dominick Pierrot when you called him?"

Suddenly, Adam's strong voice berated everyone, scolding them all.

Peter sneered, "I called Dominick to give the money back."

"That's right, this madman has no right to speak here."

"I suggest kicking them out immediately. This pair of shameless wretches is too upsetting."

"What qualification does a son-in-law who came begging for marriage have to be arrogant? Do you want to die?"

The crowd once again condemned them in unison.

Adam, with an imposing manner, retorted against everyone, "Since you're too stupid to make basic logical deductions, open your eyes and take a look at this."

Adam took out his phone and connected it to the large screen in the meeting room.

The next moment, a video began playing, and a face appeared on the screen...
