Return Of The Prodigy -
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 38
Adam's voice was like thunder. As he marched toward the thugs, screams quickly filled the air. None of them were able to stop this juggernaut. They started dropping to the ground like flies with either broken arms or broken legs. Blood splashed everywhere, dyeing the scene red.
In the space of a few seconds, all the thugs were lying on the ground in pain.
Adam arrived beside Katie and helped her up. Then, he went on to check the injuries of Thomas and the rest.
Aside from Thomas, who had a broken leg, the others were not seriously injured. None of them had broken bones.
"I told you to wait for me. Why didn't you listen?" Adam looked at Katie with a pained expression. He carefully wiped the blood off the corner of her mouth. Katie forced a smile and shook her head.
Thomas endured the pain and said through gritted teeth, "Boss, it's my fault. I wanted to help you solve this matter, but I ended up involving Ms. Hartley in this mess."
"It's not your fault," said Adam in a low voice. "Anyway, don't move and stay here. The ambulance is on its way."
He then walked away, toward Scarface who was lying far from them. He stomped on his good arm before asking coldly, "Who is your boss?"
Scarface's eyes were filled with terror as he stammered, "Wha-What do you want to do? M-My boss is Gianni the Bald! If you annoy him, you're a goner!"
Adam narrowed his eyes. "Yet no one told you about the consequences of annoying me?"
Scarface was dumbstruck, and Thomas' words echoed in his mind.
It's way worse. You'll die.
He trembled and hurried to say, "Yo-You can't kill me! You'll be committing a crime, and you'll be jailed for it! Mo-Moreover, it's not like we can't resolve this matter through words..." He broke out in a cold sweat. Unfortunately, his words failed to move Adam. "That ship sailed when you decided to hit my wife."
Crack!
Adam's right hand moved as fast as lightning, crushing Scarface's windpipe.
Scarface stared with wide eyes as he exhaled his last breath.
Never would he have thought that antagonizing the Hartleys would lead to his death.
Despite killing a man, Adam's mood did not fluctuate in the slightest. Never again would he allow others to hurt his wife and daughter. All those that tried would die, without exception.
After killing Scarface, Adam returned to where Katie was. He helped her up and took her to the car, making her lie comfortably in the passenger seat. He then gave Black Dragon a call.
"I want you to investigate a certain Gianni the Bald, I want his organization gone. Besides, I had to take action close to Redwood Mountain, send someone to clean up the place." Half an hour later, the ambulance arrived.
Adam helped Thomas and the others into the ambulance, urging them to take it easy and get the rest they needed.
Ten minutes later, another group of people hurried over to the scene. They removed the overturned truck and cleaned up the road, allowing the other vehicles to proceed toward the construction site. Katie followed the truck to the construction site to personally oversee how the construction materials were handled.
Adam repeatedly urged her to go to the hospital for a check-up, but she refused, insisting that she could not delay her work for something so trivial. Moreover, today was Jenny's first day of work, and she was waiting for Katie back at the office. Despite his reluctance, Adam could only take Katie to the construction site and give her a helping hand. They had yet to have lunch when he brought her back to the office.
In the meantime, Black Dragon called Adam, reporting that Gianni the Bald and his organization had been dealt with. Gianni the Bald's heinous crimes had been exposed, which would be enough to put him on death row.
Adam nodded and pushed the matter to the back of his mind.
At four in the afternoon, Adam drove to Annie's kindergarten.
At the main gate, the parents and guardians of the rich kids were discussing the shocking events from two days ago. Little did they know that the man that had turned the kindergarten upside down quietly stood in front of his BMW not too far away from them, waiting for his daughter.
When Adam was allowed entry, the teacher in charge was surprised.
"Are you Annie Hartley's parent? But someone already picked her up," she said puzzled.
Adam frowned. "Someone picked her up? Who was it?"
The teacher said, "It was one of Annie's relatives."
Adam's frown deepened. Was it my in-laws?
He took out his phone and dialed Trey, the call quickly went through.
Adam went straight to the point. "Dad, did you pick Annie up at the kindergarten?"
A peal of laughter sounded from the other end. Trey's phone seemed to be in hands-free mode, and he said impatiently, "No, I haven't. I'm still at work."
Then, wasting no time, he hung up.
Adam shook his head. He knew that his father-in-law was gambling again.
He then called Gemma. "Mom, did you pick Annie up at the kindergarten?"
Gemma was surprised at first but then retorted, "No, I didn't pick anyone up. I don't even know where her kindergarten is. How could I pick her up?"
She then hung up the call.
Adam was starting to get worried. Neither Trey nor Gemma picked Annie up, and Katie is still at the office. Who was it that took her away?
A sense of unease welled up within him. He walked up to the teacher and asked, "Do you remember what the person who picked up my daughter looked like?"
The teacher shook her head. "I never got to see them because another teacher came to the classroom to pick Annie up."
"Which teacher?"
"It was Bobby Hartley's teacher. She said that Annie and Bobby were cousins, and they would go home together today." Matilda?
Adam narrowed his eyes as anger surged in his heart.
Matilda, have you decided to take it out on my daughter since you couldn't deal with me? If you dare to lay a finger on Annie, I'll kill you!
Unfortunately, Adam did not have Matilda's number, so he could only call Katie.
"What, Matilda picked Annie up? Wait a moment, I'll give her a call."
Katie called again a few seconds later. "Matilda's phone is unreachable. I'm heading to the family residence."
Adam got into his car and sped away. Matilda, the Hartleys... All of you will pay for this!
He drove the BMW toward the Hartleys' residence at the fastest speed. On the way, he called Black Dragon.
"Mobilize all of our forces and look for Matilda Hartley and my daughter. Even if you have to turn Lisle upside down, replace my daughter!"
Black Dragon was shocked by the news. Without further ado, he got in touch with all of his contacts.
In a few short minutes, Lisle's local police station mobilized all of its staff.
Police cars left the police station in batches. Even the police officers on leave were called back and involved in the research.
At this very moment, at the Tarot Club.
Paul Booker, the uncrowned king of Lisle's underworld, was giving orders to his subordinates.
"Gather all the men and contact all of our agents on the streets. Tell them to replace Matilda Hartley! Send everyone a copy of her picture and set out immediately. There should be a little girl with her, pay close attention to her! If anyone dares to hurt this girl, kill them! Quick, get moving! If you replace anything, report to me right away!"
All of Lisle was in turmoil. The local gangsters were on the move, combing the streets, hotels, and restaurants.
Robert's Byron Group was not idle either.
Robert said to his subordinates, "Everybody, drop whatever you're doing and go out to look for this person! This is an emergency!"
Within a short twenty minutes, Lisle was in an uproar. Helicopters and drones scoured the skies, while police cars, vans and motorbikes belonging to gangsters raked the streets.
The number of people looking for Matilda on foot was even higher.
At the same time, Adam arrived at the Hartleys' residence. He crashed through the main gate with his BMW, alighted, and marched into the residence's hall.
Dave, who was sipping his tea, was startled by Adam's sudden arrival and dropped the tea set to the ground, shattering it.
"Bastard, what do you think you're doing? Are you trying to give me a heart attack? Do you know how expensive this tea-"
"Shut your fucking mouth!" Adam roared, glaring daggers at the old man.
Terrified by Adam's sudden outburst, Dave subconsciously shut his mouth.
Wait, was I just scared by this madman? This is my territory!
Dave quickly returned to his senses, he slammed the table with his hand and got up. "Who do you think you are! Don't you know that this is the residence of the Hartleys?"
"I know what place this is, and if your surname weren't Hartley, you would be dead already. Where the hell is Matilda? Bring her out immediately. If she dares to hurt my daughter, I'll kill every single one of you!" Adam strode forward as he spoke. After three steps, he was in front of Dave, his aura pressing down on the old man like a mountain.
Dave felt as if he was staring at death itself. The courage he had managed to muster moments ago was instantly snuffed out, and he slumped back in his chair.
Is this guy that same madman?
He's just Katie's good-for-nothing husband, right?
So, why are his eyes so terrifying...?
Many a thought coursed through Dave's mind. At this moment, he did not dare to antagonize Adam so as to avoid enraging him further.
Dave did not know what had happened, but he knew well that if Adam were to blow his top, the consequences could be dreadful for him.
