Return Of The Prodigy -
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 5
Early morning.
Adam, who had spent the night sitting at the door, went out early to buy breakfast.
Shortly after, Katie got up and went to the nearby public restroom to brush her teeth and wash her face. She then brought a basin of water to help Annie wash up and change clothes. Adam quickly entered with breakfast, but suddenly fell silent.
The narrow room had no place to sit down and eat!
In the end, the family of three finished breakfast on a park bench. Annie seemed to have never eaten fried dough sticks or drank milk before, eating three sticks and drinking two boxes in one go. "Woo... Mom, today is the most delicious meal Annie has ever had. My little belly is so full."
Annie was laughing, but Adam felt like crying.
Leaving the park, they arrived at the resettlement housing complex they passed by yesterday.
Annie's school was located here.
The school was built in residential buildings, obviously a privately operated kindergarten with unknown legal procedures.
Entering the building, there were only eight children, ranging in age from three to six, all wearing worn-out clothes.
"Goodbye, Mom, goodbye, Dad."
After Annie entered the building, she sweetly said this and secretly made a funny face at Adam, whispering, "Dad, good luck."
Adam forced a slight smile and nodded heavily.
After seeing Annie, Katie hurriedly headed towards the bus stop, with Adam closely following.
Katie frowned slightly and said, "I'm going to the company, what are you doing?"
"I'll go with you."
Katie contemplated for two seconds and said, "No matter what happens later, you are not allowed to use violence. If you can't do it, then don't go."
"I can't just stand by and watch them bully and humiliate you. I..."
"If you can't do it, then don't go," Katie said decisively, leaving no room for refusal.
Adam was left speechless and eventually let out a sigh, nodding helplessly.
After more than forty minutes, the two arrived at the company.
A twenty-story building appeared in front of them. The glass windows and all the other fancy decorations shone brightly under the sunlight, along with the words "Hartley Group" etched on the top of the building. The place appeared to be an homage to the Hartleys' glory.
However, Katie Hartley seemed to have been forbidden from taking part in this glory.
When they tried to enter the building, Adam and Katie were blocked by the security at the main gate.
"Stop right there. Who said you could enter? Do you even work at this company?"
Katie frowned. "Of course, I work here. This is my ID card."
The security guard sneered. "An ID card is hardly enough to prove your identity. What if it's forged?"
Katie's face turned cold in an instant.
Adam took a step forward directly, his voice icy, "Get out of the way."
The security guard's face darkened, swearing, "Damn, say that again? Stirring up trouble, huh? Can't you open your damn eyes and see where you are? Brothers, get some backup."
As he spoke, dozens of security guards instantly rushed over, each holding rubber batons, and several others were filming from various angles with their phones to preserve evidence.
It was clear that they were well-prepared.
"You think you're tough, huh? Want to start a fight, huh? If you dare lift a finger today, I'll make you a 'web celebrity."
"You arrogant bastard, thinking you're invincible just because you have some skill?"
"Fool."
The security guards mocked one after another.
At the same time, the leading security guard took out a walkie-talkie and shouted, "Manager, the people you were waiting for have arrived."
Katie was stunned by the opponent's series of reactions. She never expected that to make her kneel and humiliate her, Matilda had meticulously prepared so much, openly using company resources to settle personal grudges. However, Adam was not afraid at all, his aura bursting forth, like a mountain shouting and a sea roaring, pressuring the entire scene.
"I'll say it again, anyone who doesn't want to die, gets lost."
The security guards were immediately furious.
"Damn, you looking for trouble, punk?"
"Captain, give the order, let's finish him today."
"With Manager Peter supporting us, what are we afraid of? Shut off the cameras first."
The few recording individuals immediately turned off their phones.
Boom!
Dozens of security guards rushed forward simultaneously.
Katie was frightened, her delicate body trembling, reaching out to grab Adam, "Let's go, we can come back another day."
Adam's eyes were cold, full of killing intent, "Go? Why should we go? Today, I've set foot in this gate."
Katie was surprised, thinking Adam was about to start a fight again, and hastily said, "Don't forget you promised me not to use violence."
"Katie, they've gone too far, and enough is enough."
"You promised me, a man should keep his word!"
Adam clenched his fists in anger, veins popping on his forehead.
"Fine, I won't use violence. But we can't leave. Today, we not only need to enter but also make them beg us to enter!"
"Puit, how grandiose!"
A sarcastic laughter echoed, and Matilda and Peter, the siblings, came together.
Matilda sat in a wheelchair, wearing sunglasses and a mask, but it still couldn't conceal her swollen face.
Last night, despite the doctors trying everything, they couldn't reduce the swelling quickly. Moreover, the doctor said the facial bones were fractured, which could potentially cause permanent deformation of the facial muscles... In other words, she was disfigured!
The thought that all of this was caused by Katie and Adam, she wished she could flay them alive right now. So, enduring the pain in her abdomen, she chose to come, even if it meant sitting in a wheelchair.
She wanted to witness Katie and Adam kneeling in front of her, humiliated tenfold, a hundredfold, and then have their limbs broken like trash and thrown out the door.
"Katie, did your husband's mental illness flare up again? Daydreaming every day, boasting about nonsense. It's pitiful for you to end up with such a waste." Matilda mocked with satisfaction.
She deliberately took a painkiller injection before coming to fully enjoy the humiliation.
"Puit, boasting doesn't incur taxes anyway. Go ahead and boast about being mentally ill, make us beg you to come in. Hahaha, you dare to think so." Peter followed with ridicule.
The security guards joined in a burst of laughter.
Katie's pretty face turned crimson with embarrassment, wishing she could replace a hole to crawl into. But for the sake of her job, she endured the shame deep within and apologized in a low voice, "Matilda, I admit that hitting you yesterday was wrong on our part. I apologize on his behalf, we can compensate for your medical expenses. Please forgive us, don't revoke my job. Annie is still waiting for my salary to pay her school fees."
"Phooey!"
Matilda took off her mask, spat a thick phlegm on the ground, and venomously said, "Look at my face closely. Do you know how much it hurts? Do you know how many teeth I've lost? Do you think a simple apology after boasting is enough? Want to apologize? Want the job? Just kneel and lick this phlegm, then I'll forgive you!"
Katie was shaking with anger, her eyes red. "Matilda, don't go too far. It was your fault yesterday, and don't forget that Hartley Group is the company of the Hartley family. You shouldn't forget that I am also surnamed Hartley, and I have a share in this company." "Hahaha, you're just as delusional as your mentally ill husband. You, wanting a piece of the company? Look at your despicable behavior. Besides embarrassing the Hartley family, what else are you good for? Where do you get the qualification to speak like this? Who gave you the courage?"
"You don't want to kneel? You don't want to compensate for your medical expenses? Fine, as long as you can afford it, I'll forgive you. Two million dollars, can you afford it? Can you compensate?" "Shameless!" Katie exclaimed.
"You bitch, dare to curse me? Give her a slap for me."
"Hey, I'm good at this kind of thing." Peter sneered and walked up.
"I advise you not to dodge, otherwise losing your job won't be that simple! Tsk tsk, slapping such a beautiful face should be very painful!"
Peter swung his arm, raised his hand, and fiercely slapped Katie's face.
