Chapter 287

Since Dora's marriage to Liam, Cherise hadn't had such a deep conversation with her in a long time.

The two hours flew by happily, and if Dora hadn't had other things to do, they could have talked all night.

Noticing that Dora had responsibilities, Cherise told Dora she was heading home.

As she opened the door, she ran into Jason.

Jason's eyes briefly flickered at the sight of Cherise; this was their first meeting since the paternity test results hard come out.

An awkward feeling settled between them, making it hard for him to look her in the eye, and an odd sensation stirred inside hun.

"Ms. Leach," Jason was the first to break the silence.

Cherise nodded and smiled.

After exchanging a few polite words, Jason stepped aside so Cherise could pass.

"Do you have a moment? I'd like to talk," Cherise said suddenly to Jason.

Ten minutes later, they sat across from each other at the cafe on the ground floor of GlobalVision Group.

One was a serious but striking presidential assistant, and the other was a stunning goddess often seen in the halls of GlobalVision Group. People passing by noticed their surprising resemblance.

The cafe staff set down two cups of coffee in front of them.

Cherise added two sugar cubes and stirred her drink until it was just right before taking a sip. After finishing, she enjoyed the taste, and Jason couldn't help but smile at how happy she looked. Once Cherise put her cup down, she started, "I saw that photo, the one that looks a lot like me." Jason's surprise grew. He didn't expect her to be so calm sitting in front of him after that revelation.

He let out a small laugh. "Surprising, isn't it? To be honest, when first approached you, I had some plans because of that image.

"I guess Morris told you that, sadly, we did the paternity test without your consent, and we kept it a secret from you.

"But it turns out you don't have any blood relation with the Muller family at all. My hopes were in vain!"

Jason looked down, unable to meet Cherise's gaze.

Seeing his mood, Cherise replied, "Honestly, sometimes the outcome doesn't matter that much."

Jason looked up and locked eyes with her.

Cherise smiled sweetly. "Until the very end, you might get an unexpected surprise."

Her words brightened the gloom that had been hanging over Jason, like rain after a long dry spell.

Jason's charming smile came back. "If you don't mind, could I treat you as a sister whether we're actually related or not?" Cherise nodded. "Of course! I'd be happy to. I've wished for an gler brother since I was a kid.

The mood became much wagner as they exchanged friendly sites, creating a feeling of tenderness and harmony. Siner returning to the Hawkins residence, Camellia had been at the training facility facing her punishment.

Even as the tough training made her sweat again and again, she felt no tiredness.

After all, her mind was mostly filled with thoughts of that phone call.

Samson's wonds echoed in her head. "Hannia is currently living his apartment. They were having dinner together..."

Those words seemed to release her inner rage, making her hit the sandbags with great energy.

Camellia whispered, "Hania, you can't be with Nolan. I love him, I fell for him at first sight, and he must belong to me alone"

Her mind drifted back to when she was eleven years old, the first year after her father died.

Since the fortune teller said that Camellia was destined for bad luck, it seemed like no one in her family really cared for her.

Even the selyants in the house mocked and disrespected her.

That year, Nolan, who was two years older than Camellia, came to the Hawkins residence with Samson and found her being bullied in a corner by a middle-aged maid who had some authority in the family. The maid was making her clean.

Nolan stepped in and protected her, telling her that fortune tellers shouldn't be trusted. With enough skill, all those words could be proven wrong.

That was the first time Camellia saw a man who seemed angelica light in her dark world, her savior.

From that day on, her heart could only hold feelings for Nolan.

Even when she learned that Nolan was engaged to her sister, she still held on to a glimmer of hope.

Camellia's life was all about working hard to become exceptional, trying to change how her family saw her, and yearning for an engagement with Nolan that didn't rightfully belong to her.

But now, it felt like all her efforts were washing away.

Camellia laughed mockingly at the heavens as tears mixed with her sweat, blurring the line between her tears and perspiration.
