Rewriting My Heart's Fate (Ethan and Evelyn) -
Chapter 236
Chapter 236
There was a flash of surprised delight on Liam's face, as if he had finally met his soulmate.
Before he could speak, Mr. Mitchell said, "Young lady, do you know how to play chess?
I was startled at suddenly getting called upon, but I recovered and said, "I've only played a few rounds on my phone. I don't th
I don't think I know how to play."
I was very honest. Mr. Mitchell seemed to like my honesty, and he waved at me. "Come over here. I'll teach you."
Inodded and walked over.
I sat down opposite Mr. Mitchell on the other side of the chessboard. Mr. Mitchell told me the rules of chess, and I tried my best to understand. After a moment, the assistant reset the chessboard, and Mr. Mitchell gestured for me to start. "Do you want to try it out?" I took it. I felt rather troubled and hesitant. "Don't end up overturning the chessboard from anger.
"You're not allowed to chase us off, either."
I held the piece thoughtfully in my night hand. "The younger generation stands on the shoulders of the older generation. You have to give us a chance to grow."
I was actually rather afraid when I said that. I was scared of stepping out of line and offending Mr. Mitchell and that he would kick us out. If so, our plan would be totally mined.
Luckily, Mr. Mitchell chuckled at what I had said. "Alright. I promise that I won't lose my temper, and I won't kick you out."
"Deal." I breathed a sigh of relief and glanced at the chessboard before making my more.
An hour passed.
Two hours passed.
Finally, three hours had passed.
I lost every single game spectacularly. In fact, my defeats became worse as time went on
"Ahh...". After I had lost yet another game, I slumped onto the table, feeling rather discouraged. "I feel terrible! Why am I still losing so badly?"
I took a deep breath and began reset the chessboard. "Let's do it one more time. I'm sure I can do it this time."
"You won't be able to beat me even if we play 100 times more." Mr. Mitchell put down his chess piece and stood up, smiling broadly. "Do you really think that those of us from the old generation are pushovers?"
After spending time with him over the past few hours, I could already tell what kind o
of temperament he had.
He was stem but also lively. He knew what young people talked about, and he could make jokes. He was a kind, amiable, and very wise old man.
I hastily denied it, and when I looked at the clock on the wall, I saw that it was almost 1:30 pm.
"We forgot the time while we were playing chess. Let me take you out to eat." I took out my phone to call Nourish Bistro and make a reservation.
I continued, "Yardville is by the sea, and our seafood is our specialty. However, too much seafood isn't good for your health, so we'll refrain from getting the famous seafood feasts we're known for. This restaurant has some light seafood stew and some great appetizers. Shall we go and try it?" Before coming, I had chatted to Mr. Mitchell's assistant and knew that he didn't have a good appetite. He was not accustomed to Yardville cuisine. Mr. Mitchell looked at me with bright, Intelligent eyes. "My assistant told you a lot, didn't he?"
I smiled, not feeling guilty at all. I looked into his eyes. "Yes, he did say you haven't had a good appetite lately"
Mr. Mitchell remained silent.
I knew that I was being rather obsequious, but I had a clear goal in being there. I had played chess with Mr. Mitchell and was bringing him to lunch to make him happy. If he was happy, he might agree to participate in the Southcliff Shire project. However, having lunch and playing chess were very everyday things. I didn't think that it would make
After a moment, Mr. Mitchell looked at me and asked, "How old are you?"
I didn't know why he was suddenly asking me about my age, but I answered, "Almost 19."
I make ine seem as if I were only doing it to flatter him
"19 years old? Mr. Mitchell frowned, and his eyes roved over me. "You don't look like you're from a poor family. Did you come out to society so young because your parents are trying to train you on purpose?" Were my parents training me on purpose?
I was startled for a moment, but then similed. I didn't deny it nor admit it. "I just know what I want, and I'm giving myself an early start and working hard."
