Chapter 339

Rumors would be proven over time, and the truth was just as those women had guessed.

After about three days, I received an email, but I didn't pay much attention to it. Not long after that, I received a call. They informed me that Duncan wanted to communicate with me on some important details. This surprised me at once. It was just a competition. What details could he possibly want to communicate with me, unless he just wanted to see me?

However, I was still unsure, so I wanted to test how true my theory was.

I sighed theatrically and said, "I've been very busy with schoolwork lately. I wonder if I could communicate these details over the phone? Perhaps I could video call Mr. Barnes at a time that works for him? What do you think?"

I pretended to be very busy to try and deceive them, but they didn't seem to care. They gave me a very firm answer right after that.

"I would like you to prove your situation, as not everyone is given an opportunity like this. Mr. Barnes wants to discuss the details with you alone because he wants to give you an opportunity for collaboration.

"Don't you want to be famous after you graduate? This is a golden opportunity. Are you really going to let it go?"

It was just as I had thought. He was using a reason that seemed logical to trap others. So many people had been deceived because they had worked so hard and studied so much to get the results that they wanted, and then they had ended up being tricked by him.

This interested me. I hadn't expected things to become so intriguing. It made me want to get involved, to see what kind of role these people would try to put me in. However, I guessed that Duncan didn't really understand my personality. That was why he was treating me like an ordinary student.

It seemed that anyone who was slightly attractive and a little slow on the uptake, or anyone who didn't dare to stand up for themselves because they were in a foreign country and wanted to get this kind of opportunity, would end up falling for something like this. However, I already had my own plan. I had to appear as prey so that I could capture the true prey. No one knew who would be the ultimate winner, but I was very confident in myself.

I never did anything I wasn't sure about, and I was determined to reveal the true face of this beast so that more people could be aware.

"I hope that you've considered this thoroughly, because Mr. Barnes doesn't have much time. It's difficult for you to get a chance like this, and you won't have it in future if you miss this."

He was trying to guilt-trip me into doing it, which amused me. Since he liked guilt-tripping so much, I decided to go along with it and see what he was trying to do, so I agreed very quickly.

"I'm very honored to have such a good opportunity, so I hope that you won't reject me. I'll do my best to arrange for this to be done as soon as possible, and I'll go and see Mr. Barnes. I wonder what time would be more convenient for you?"

I pretended to be anxious, as if I would no longer have any opportunities if I missed this. The man on the other end of the phone immediately looked happier.

I knew he was probably feeling very gleeful because even the sound of his laugh seemed more relaxed.

However, in order to prove his authority, he had to pretend to be very unhappy.

He had to put on that act so that it would seem as if he were giving me a chance. That was how cold and shameful human nature was.

"Tonight would be a good time. I'll give you a specific address, but don't tell anyone else about this. You understand. If I interact too much with you, people will think that Mr. Barnes wants to make you win."

They were doing this despite knowing how it would be perceived, which meant that he was clearly using the situation to do something to me. However, I didn't say anything. I pretended to be touched and agreed at once before hurriedly hanging up.
