Rewriting My Heart's Fate (Ethan and Evelyn) -
Chapter 440
I became lost in my thoughts, and a wave of disappointment washed over me. The heaviness in my chest made it hard to catch my breath.
As the meeting ended and everyone else left, I remained seated and was staring blankly ahead. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself and reminding myself not to let the speculative thoughts take over. "Evelyn."
I was startled by the low voice behind me. I turned quickly to replace Ethan standing just behind me. His tall figure cast a shadow over me.
"Mr. Grayson..." I stammered. I quickly stood up and took a step back. "Is there something else you need?"
"Come with me," he said coldly and walked away without waiting for a response.
Feeling confused, I had no choice but to follow. Something about him felt off, though I couldn't quite place it. A growing unease settled in my chest as I followed him.
In silence, he led me into the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor.
"Mr. Grayson, where are we going?" My voice wavered slightly.
"To my office. We need to talk," he replied indifferently.
"Talk... about what?" Anxiety gripped me.
"You'll replace out soon enough," he said. A faint, almost amused smile played on his lips. It reminded me of the person he used to be.
Before I knew it, we arrived at his office on the top floor. The space was immaculately designed. Its luxury was unspeakable.
"Come in." Ethan opened the door and gestured for me to enter.
I went in hesitantly, and my eyes began to scan the room. Despite the luxurious surroundings, I couldn't shake the feeling that something unsettling was about to happen.
Ethan closed the door behind him. Then, he walked calmly to his desk and sat down. He tapped his fingers on the surface while he locked his gaze on me.
"Evelyn, come here," he said suddenly. "Stand before me."
I bit my lip and forced myself to move forward. I stopped about three feet away. My hands fidgeted
nervously. "Mr. Grayson, why did you call me here? Is there something you need from me?" en Ebookex
He didn't answer me right away. Instead, he studied me with an intensity that almost felt cruel.
After a long pause, he finally spoke. "I've been thinking. Your work in Lendora has been impressive. Have you considered staying here long term?"
I froze and struggled to process his words. "But... I thought the plan was for me to help with the logo design and then go back home?"
Ethan scoffed. "Did I say that? I don't remember."
A sinking feeling hit my chest, and I
struggled to calm my nerves. "Mr. Grayson, I'm truly grateful for this opportunity. But I don't know anyone here, and I still have a lot of
elo
assignments to finish. Plus, staying here long-term without support could be difficult."
"Support?" He raised an eyebrow. "You don't need to worry about that. I've already bought a house here in Lendora. You'll move in with me." Hearing that, my eyes widened in disbelief. "Mr. Grayson, what do you mean? I can't live with you! That's completely inappropriate!"
"What's inappropriate about it?" he
replied with a scoff. "You're my most trusted assistant. Working closely with me is perfectly normal. Besides, now that things are going well financially, it's only fair that we live in a decent place, don't you think?"
