Chapter 69
Chapter 69
Hayley looked at Harriet with her gray hair, which gave off an aura of adomineering matriarch of the house. Thus, she didn't dare tomisbehave in front of the old madam. Soon, she walked up to Harrietand politely greeted her. “Greetings, Old Madam Presgrave. My name isHayley Seymour. I'm your grandson's girlfriend.”
Harriet frowned and asked in surprise, “You're Elliot's girlfriend?”
“Well, Elliot and I haven't dated long enough for me to drop by and sayhi, so I'm sorry about that, Old Madam Presgrave.” Hayley acted like shewas beating herself up.
Harriet had always known that Elliot didn't like her arrangements, whichmade her wonder whether Hayley was behind the reason why hergrandson didn’t want to marry Anastasia. “Hayley, can you tell me howyou came to know Elliot?” The old madam sized Hayley up, noticing herordinary appearance as she was also able to tell that Hayley wasn'tfrom a wealthy family.
However, the biggest question that bothered her was whether Elliotwas dating Hayley.
When Hayley kept her head down and pursed her lips in silence, acurious Harriet then asked, "What's wrong? Why are you being soquiet?”
Hayley bit her lips and looked at the old madam. “It's embarrassing.”“Why? What could be embarrassing? Just tell me the story.” Harriet'scuriosity grew even stronger.
Hayley then pretended to muster her courage and shared about theincident that happened five years ago with Harriet. Since she was ableto guess how Anastasia and Elliot's intimacy had happened, shemanaged to tell the story, as if she was the one who experienced itherself. Upon hearing Hayley's story, Harriet was left with her eyes wideopen as she couldn't believe her grandson was responsible for takingaway a lady's virginity
“The watch was the clue that helped Elliot look for me before he toldme he'll make it up to me for the rest of his life.”
Harriet's eyes were filled with sympathy after she heard Hayley's story. After all, she reckoned Hayley deserved her sympathy for havingsacrificed her virginity in exchange for her grandson's life. “Hayley, I'dlike to apologize to you on Elliot's
behalf. Besides, I'll see that he makes it up to you.”
The old madam placed herself in Hayley’s shoes and was able toempathize with the young lady as a woman herself. Well, Hayley wasprobably 19 when that happened to her. That was when a lady was inher golden years, yet something like this befell her. I bet she must havesuffered from it a lot.
“Have you had breakfast, girl?” she asked in a concerned manner.
“No, I haven't...” Hayley shook her head.
"Somebody! Please prepare breakfast.” Harriet ordered her maids whileHayley kept her head down with a complacent look that flashed acrossher face. Deep down, she believed the positive change in Harriet'sattitude was a sign that her place was getting more important in thePresgrave Family.
Meanwhile, Anastasia was going through some files in her office atBourgeois when her phone rang. She then picked it up and asked,“Hello, who is speaking?”
“I'm waiting for you at the door. Get down here now,” Elliot spoke witha voice so deep and charismatic that no other man could speak likehim.
She held her breath for a split second when memories of the manforcefully kissing her vividly haunted her and flooded her mind. At thethought of that, she felt reluctant to see Elliot. Thus, she turned theman’s invitation down. “I'm busy today, so I'm not going to yourgrandmother's house.”
“Are you going to come down, or do I have to go up there to get youmyself? Take your pick,” the man replied unhappily.
Anastasia bit her lips, realizing it wasn't right for her to renege on herwords. Therefore, she packed her stuff and grabbed her purse beforeleaving the office. When she arrived downstairs, she was greeted by thesight of a black sedan. Then, she opened the car door and sat inside asthe man wearing a black suit gave off an intimidating aura.
Not long after Anastasia entered the car, she looked the other way andset her eyes outside the window while feeling a rush of adrenaline allover her body as soon as she recalled Elliot's unexpected reaction thenight before.
On the other hand, Elliot fixed his gaze on the lady's flank while startingthe car engine and driving away from the company. For the next fewmoments, the car's interior was shrouded in silence until he suddenlyaccelerated on the highway. Frightened by that, she anxiously held ontoher seatbelt and screamed in horror,
“Elliot, the speed limit here is 50 miles per hour!”
