Saving His Feral Mate -
Chapter 21: A phone call
Alpha Knox POV
Tatiana has been staying on my territory for a couple days now. It’s progressing well, but every now and then, I can sense her fighting the bond. She almost looks in pain when she does it and it kills me inside. I don’t understand why she won’t give into it, I wish I knew more about her.
I’ve been trying to keep her and Max out of the spot light for the the most part, since I know they both aren’t a huge fan of people and crowds, but it’s been tough. My pack members are curious about them. They know they are rogues and don’t understand why I’m letting them stay with us. I know Tatiana hasn’t accepted the mate bond yet, so I haven’t told anyone the truth.
I’ve been able to sense Chloe’s presence more lately, but as soon as I try to talk to her, she retreats and doesn’t reply. I can tell Tatiana really misses her, I can often see the loneliness in her eyes.
I was in my office going over some paperwork, when Jo and Jagger barged in.
“Damn it, don’t you know how to knock?” I grumbled in irritation.
I was in a bit of a mood. My wolf has been on my case about mating and marking Tatiana, but she’s not ready. I’m not going to lie, my frustration with the situation has been growing. I want the damn girl and I don’t know what I can do to earn her trust.
“Sorry Alpha, actually I’m not really.” Jo said, while shrugging his shoulders and sitting down across from me. Jagger chuckled, as he sat next to him.
“Where’s your mate?” Jagger asked curiously, knowing I rarely left her side.
“Max kicked me out of their room, said she wanted some girl time with Tatiana.” I grumbled, but it sounded more like a pout.
“How are things going with her?” Jag asked and I saw a hint of jealousy in his eyes. I knew it wasn’t personal, he’s just longing to replace his own mate and now that Jo and I found ours, it’s been hard for him. He tries to hide it, but I can still see it.
“It’s been tough, but we’ll get there.” I said with a heavy sigh.
“How about you and Max?” Jag turned and ask Jo.
“She’s amazing, the girl is the whole package. She doesn’t seem to feel the mate bond like I do though. She can resist it pretty good and my wolf can’t sense her wolf, which is odd. When I asked her about it, she avoids the question.” Jo replied with a thoughtful frown.
Our conversation was interrupted when my phone rang and I quickly picked it up.
“Alpha Knox, speaking.” I greeted.
“Alpha Knox, it’s Alpha Alec calling.” He said and I recognized his voice immediately.
My hand tightened on the phone, to the point where my knuckles turned white. I hate the damn man, we are definitely not on good terms. We’ve actually gone to war in the past, when my father was the Alpha. We made peace after that, but it was more of a keep your friends close and your enemies closer, kind of thing. Not to mention, this is the Alpha that Betty and Tom have had issues with. I wonder why the f**k he would be calling me?
“What can I do for you, Alpha Alec?” I gritted out, unable to hide the distaste I had for the man.
“I’m looking for someone and thought you might be able to help me.” He replied and I didn’t like the way he said it. It was as if he already knew I could.
“Who?” I asked in a short tone.
“A pack member. She’s wanted for murder and has been on the run for almost 3 years. Her names Maxine, but she goes by Max. A little birdie told me that you have two rogue she-wolves staying with you.” He replied in a knowing tone.
My b***d ran cold hearing his words and my eyes immediately darted to Jo, who had a murderous look on his face. Who the hell told him that I had rogues staying here?
“Sorry Alpha Alec, but neither of the rogues staying with us go by that name. Can you describe her?” I said, trying to sound believable.
“How stupid, I should of started with that. She’s a pretty little thing, but don’t let that fool you, she’s deadly. I would say she’s around 22 years old, 5’8, long black hair and big tits.” He replied and I heard Jo growl. Jag put his hand on his shoulder to try and calm him down.
“Nope, neither of the girls staying with us match that description.” I replied quickly.
“Well that’s unfortunate, if you come across her, please let me know.” He said, but I could hear the suspicion in his tone.
“Can I asked who she killed?” I couldn’t help the question from leaving my lips. Even though I don’t like Alpha Alec, we really don’t know much about Max.
“Her mate, my Beta.” He replied and this time I heard hatred in his tone. Jo stood up and started to pace in my office.
“I’ll be in touch if we come across her.” I said in a neutral tone.
“Thank you, Alp…” he stated to replied, but I hung up the phone before he was done. I couldn’t stand the sound of his disgusting voice any longer.
“He’s lying!” Jo seethed.
“Don’t worry, I don’t believe a thing that a*****e says, but we need to know what happened with Max and his beta so we can protect her.” I replied calmly and Jo let out a heavy sigh.
“Dude, she won’t even tell me her full name, do you really think she’s going to tell me what happened between her and her first mate?” Jo said in a defeat tone.
“I know, but if we don’t know the truth it will be harder to protect her. Go and get her, we have to try.” I replied, while rubbing my hands over my face. I knew he was right, both Max and Tatiana don’t trust anyone, this isn’t going to be an easy conversation.
Jo didn’t say anything further, before storming out of my office. I knew he was upset and I don’t blame him. This isn’t how it’s suppose to be when you first replace your mate.
I just hope we don’t scare Max and Tatiana away.

Max POV
“What do you think of your mate?” I asked Red, who was sitting on the bed gnawing on a raw steak.
The chick was definitely more wolf than human, but I liked her. I felt protective of her and even though we aren’t b***d related, she’s like a little sister.
“I don’t have a mate.” She replied shortly, causing me to roll my eyes. She can deny it all she wants, but I can see the desire in her eyes at the mention of his name.
“Fine, what do you think about Knox? He’s pretty hot, a bit on the needy side but if you slap some tape on that mouth, I’m sure his d**k would be a good ride.” I said casually, while shrugging my shoulders. Tatiana dropped the steak and growled viciously at me, causing me to chuckle.
“Ok, fine. Let’s change the topic.” I said, while putting my hands up in surrender. Damn, for someone who doesn’t have a mate, she’s sure uptight when I mention his d**k. I thought to myself.
We were brought out of our awkward conversation by a knock at the door. I let out a sigh, as I stood up and walked over to open it. I already knew it would either be, Knox or Jo. They’re the only two that constantly knock.
Once the door opened, Jo stood on the other side looking troubled, but when his eyes met mine, they lit up like a Christmas tree. I rolled my eyes when his lips curled into his classic goofy grin.
“What are you ladies up to?” He asked, as he leaned against the door frame.
“We’re having a leg shaving party.” I replied sarcastically.
“What’s a leg shaving party?” He asked with a confused frown. I had to hold back from laughing, he actually looked cute.
“You know, we shave each others legs while talking about dicks.” I replied casually and his eyes grew wide, before his grin turned mischievous.
“So you were talking about my d**k?” He asked, looking proud of himself.
“Don’t flatter yourself, what do you want?” I replied shortly, while changing the subject. The last thing I want him to think, is that he stood a chance.
I saw a flash of concern in his eyes and it made me tense. Something was up and he was trying to hide it.
“Spit it out.” I practically growled, not liking the vibes I was getting from him. Tatiana came to stand beside me, I’m sure she could feel the tension.
“Knox wants to see you in his office.” He blurted out nervously.
“Why?” I gritted out.
“Just come, I promise nothing will happen to you, you’re safe here.” He replied and it was the first time I saw him looking serious. It didn’t sit well with me, I knew something was up.
He reached his hand out to take mine, but I walked past him and down the hall. I was both angry and nervous at the same time, but I hid those emotions with my carefree attitude. I noticed Tatiana was walking beside me quietly and I could feel how uneasy she was. The girl didn’t say much, but I knew she felt the same way about me that I felt about her.
We reached Knox’s office and I pushed the door open before barging in. Knox and Jag jumped up when they saw me. I could see the concern on their faces and knew I wasn’t going to like this.
“Your majesty wanted to see me?” I asked sarcastically, while bowing dramatically.
“Yes, have a seat.” Knox replied, while motioning to the chair in front of his desk. His eyes however were locked on Tatiana.
“I’m good, been sitting all day. What’s up?” I asked casually, although deep down inside I was dreading this conversation.
Jo came to stand beside and put his arm around my waist. I quickly slapped it away, while keeping my focus on Knox.
“First, I want you to know you’re safe here. We will protect you.” Knox started and I rolled my eyes.
“Alpha Alec called.” He said in a pained tone and my heart dropped. Yup, I knew this was going somewhere I didn’t want it to go. I started to turn around and Jo grabbed my arm gently. I was about to sucker punch the guy, when Knox spoke again.
“We just need to know what happened between you and your first mate, we will keep you safe here.” He pleaded and I could hear the sincerity in his words, but I still wasn’t about to start spilling my deepest darkest secrets to them.
“He had a small d**k, so I killed him.” I replied nonchalantly.
Knox rubbed his hands over his face in frustration. I don’t know what he was expecting, but I wasn’t about to sit down and have a Dr.Phil session with them.
Jo had an unreadable look on his face, as he stood between me and the door. He probably thought he could stop me if I wanted to leave, but boy was he wrong.
“Listen, I came here to make sure Red was safe and now that I know she is, it’s time for me to go.” I replied in a more serious tone, as I started to feel trapped. I knew they weren’t doing it on purpose, but my PTSD was kicking in.
“Please don’t leave.” Jo begged and the look in his eyes almost broke my heart. He was still standing in front of the door blocking my exit.
“Move.” Tatiana growled, causing all of us to look at her. The girl barely spoke, I think her reaction took everyone by surprise.
Jo let out a defeated sigh, before moving out of my way.
“You’re my damn mate, Max. I don’t want to let you go.” He practically growled, while standing beside the door.
“I told you, don’t call me that. You’re lucky your d**k isn’t small or you’d also be dead.” I teased and winked at him, before walking out of the office.
I put on my carefree persona, but deep down inside I was scared. How did Alpha Alec replace me here? Not only was I not safe, but he would literally go to war to make sure I suffered. I wasn’t about to put that responsibility on Knox and his people. I wasn’t their problem.
Once I reached the forest, I turned around to replace Jo following me.
“I won’t stop you from leaving tonight, but don’t confuse that with me giving up on us.” He said sternly and although I wanted to be irritated with him, his words caused my traitorous body to react. I felt my core tighten and desire to floor through me. Why did the man have to be so damn perfect?
“I look forward to our next encounter, hot stuff.” I teased, before running off towards the border. The last thing I heard, was a loud and powerful growl. It sent a shiver down my body.
