Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 41: A meeting with Alpha Victor

Knox POV

Alpha Victor walked into my office, followed by three other men. Jo and Jag stood from their seats and came to stand beside me, offering up their chairs to our guests.

I’ve met Alpha Victor before, but it was several years ago, he’s changed quite a bit since then. He looked to be in his mid 40’s with salt and pepper hair, around 6’2 and had a muscular build. His face was painted with a serious expression that hides all other emotions.

I noticed the man standing beside him looked to be in his early 20’s and if I was to take a guess, I would have said he was Alpha Victors son based on the similarities. The two other men with them also possessed strong auras, I can only assume that they were high ranking members of their pack.

“Alpha Victor, thanks for meeting with us.” I greeted and extended my hand to shake his. He nodded, before shaking my hand.

“Alpha Knox, thanks for having us. This is my son, Xander, my Beta, Ron and warrior, Kane.” He introduced and motioning to each man as he said their name.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you. This is my beta, Jagger and my top warrior, Joseph. I replied, while motioning to the men standing beside me.

“Please have a seat.” I offered, motioning to the two chairs in front of the desk and the couch positioned to the side of the room.

Alpha Victor and his son sat across from me, while his beta and warrior sat on the couch.

“Can I get you guys anything to drink? Coffee? Tea?” I asked politely.

“Alpha Knox, I’m not going to beat around the bush here. I came to warn you regarding a threat against you and your pack.” He said and it was clear he wasn’t in the mood for small talk.

“What threat may that be?” I asked with a frown.

“Listen, this is merely a courtesy warning. I have no interest in working with you or your pack. I’m only telling you because my hatred for the two other packs involved is far greater.” He continued and I could hear the distaste in his tone.

I had to admit, I was disappointed that he was so quick to deny any possibility of re-building our alliance. But at the time, I couldn’t dwell on that. I was far more interested in what information he had regarding this so-called threat.

“I understand, can you please tell me more about this threat? I asked and nodded for him to continue.

“I have a reliable source who told me that Alpha Alec and Alpha Cameron, are planning on attacking your territory. They want you dead and plan on taking over your pack.” He explained, with a serious expression on his face.

I wasn’t surprised by this information. I had already heard rumours of this possible attack. What did catch me off guard, was that Alpha Victor found the source reliable enough to schedule this meeting and warn me. I wonder when those two snakes are planning this attack?

“Thank you for the warning, Alpha Victor. Did your source hear anything about when this attack might take place?” I asked.

“No, but the source seemed to think it was going to happen sooner rather than later. I would make sure your warriors are ready for war, it’s coming. I would hate to see Alpha Cameron and Alpha Alec, gain more power if you were to lose.” He said and I saw the slight hint of concern in his eyes.

“We will be ready, we have some of the strongest warriors. They might outnumber us, but we have strength on our side.” I said confidently, making sure to hide any doubt that I had.

“I hope so for your sake.” He said with a nod.

“Alpha Victor, may I ask why you won’t consider re-building our alliance? It could be beneficial for both of us. I know my father betrayed you, but I can assure you that I’m nothing like him.” I said truthfully.

“Son, your fathers betrayal cost me the lives of 30 warriors. He went behind my back and leaked my defend strategies to our enemy. No matter how different you might be from your father, I would never be able to trust you.” He replied and I could hear the hatred in his tone. I was taken aback by his words. I never actually heard what my father did, I just knew he had betrayed Alpha Victor. If what he said is true, my father is a bigger snake then I thought.

“I’m sorry for what my father did, there is no excuse for his behaviour. I can assure you that the way I run this pack, is very different from how he did. I really wish you would reconsider, because unlike him, I’m 100% loyal to my alliances. You can trust me.” I replied sincerely.

“Yes well, what’s done is done. I have heard good things about you, Alpha Knox, that’s why I’m here to warn you. But your father has burnt that bridge, there will be no alliance between us.” He said and I could tell he wasn’t going to change his mind.

“I understand.” I said and the disappointment was clear in my tone.

“May I ask you a question, Alpha Knox?” He asked.

“Of course.” I replied with a curious frown.

“When I heard about this possible attack, it piqued my curiosity. I wanted to know why they were hellbent on attacking your pack. Logistically it didn’t make sense to me, so I dug a little deeper. Is it true that you’re harbouring two rogue she-wolves on your land?” He asked with his head tilted to the side, watching me with a curious look.

Alpha Victor had caught me off guard and I wasn’t able to hide my surprised expression. We already figured that Alpha Alec suspected that Max was here, but I didn’t think Alpha Cameron knew about Chloe. How the hell did he replace out?

All of our attention turned towards Jo, who let out a low, threatening growl at the mention of Max and Chloe.

“Your silence and his reaction was enough to answer my question. I hope these she-wolves are worth it. They might end up being the cause of your packs demise.” He said and although I didn’t like his choice of words, I understood where his concern was coming from. Before I could reply, Jo pipped up.

“They are worth it.” He growled and I immediately noticed his eyes had darkened, letting me know his wolf was fighting for control.

“Go take a walk, Joseph.” I gritted out in frustration. I understood that Jo was just being protective, but he was still talking to an Alpha and his tone certainly wasn’t respectful.

Jo didn’t argue and stormed out of the room, I could tell he needed some fresh air. I didn’t like that Alpha Victor brought up the girls either, but I forced my emotions aside and kept my composure. After all, he did come here in good faith to warn us about the attack.

Once Jo was gone, I turned my attention back towards Alpha Victor.

“I apologize for that.” I said with a sigh.

“No need to apologize. I can only assume that one of those she-wolves is his mate? Is it the one that Alpha Cameron is looking for or Alpha Alec? He asked and that was my confirmation that Alpha Cameron did in fact know that Chloe was here.

“I’m sorry, but I’d rather not talk about that.” I said and he nodded in understanding. I didn’t sense any bad intentions from Alpha Victor, he just seemed curious.

“One last thing, Alpha Knox.” He said and paused before continuing.

“There is someone within your pack that’s leaking information to the enemy. I would be cautious on who you choose to share important information with.” He said and I could hear the seriousness in his tone. I already thought of the possibility that there was a traitor in my pack, I just don’t have a clue who it could be?

“Thank you, Alpha Victor. After everything you shared with me today, I suspected that. I’ll be sure to look into this matter further.” I replied and he nodded in approval.

“That’s everything I wanted to discuss with you. I didn’t want to risk either Alpha Cameron or Alpha Alec, overhearing us at the meeting.” He said.

“Of course. Now that we are done with business, how about lunch?” I offered.

“I think we will pass, we should be on our way.” He replied, while standing from his seat.

“The kitchen staff prepared a feast in your honour. Let’s put business aside and simply enjoy the meal.” I suggested.

“Very well, but this doesn’t change anything between us.” He said pointedly.

“It’s just lunch.” I replied and he nodded.

Everyone stood up and started walking towards the door, when I spoke again.

“Oh and one more thing. I would appreciate it if we don’t speak about Alpha Cameron or Alpha Alec during lunch.” I said and looked between Alpha Victor and his men.

“And why is that?” Alpha Victor asked curiously.

“One of the she-wolves we were discussing early, Chloe, will be joining us.” I explained and knew right away he would suspect something, but was hoping he would just let it go.

“Interesting…That won’t be a problem, Alpha Knox.” He said and I didn’t miss the knowing glint in his eyes. Goddess, it was getting harder and harder to hide the fact that Chloe was my mate.

We left the office and I led Alpha Victor and his men to the dinner hall. We arrived a few minutes before 1:30pm and I noticed that Chloe hadn’t arrived yet.

I showed the men to a table and they all sat down. The hall was pretty much empty by the time we got there and whoever was left, quickly scattered out of there room as soon as they noticed us.

Jo walk into the room shortly after we arrived and made his way over to the table. He looked much calmer, now that he’s had some time to reign in his wolf.

“Alpha Victor, I would like to apologize for early. My wolf is quite fond of those she-wolves and gets a little protective.” He said. Jo can be a little hotheaded at times, but he’s also the first to admit it when he’s wrong.

“No need to apologize, son, I have a mate and understand how possessive we can get.” Alpha Victor replied and Jo nodded before taking a seat beside Jag.

We had been talking for ten minutes, when Chloe walked into the room and everyone went silent.

Chloe looked stunning in a dark grey, dress. It fell off one shoulder and reached just above her knees. Her hair was pulled back in a messy bun. She blushed when she noticed all the attention she was getting.

I quickly stood from my chair and pulled out the chair next to me for Chloe to sit down.

The room was almost too quiet for my liking. I took a minute to look around and that’s when I saw Alpha Victor looking at Chloe intently. It wasn’t just him, his son also had a weird expression on his face and he kept looking between his father and Chloe, like he was trying to figure something out.

Once Chloe was in her seat, I cleared my throat to get everyone’s attention. Luckily it seemed to bring Alpha Victor out of his trance and he reluctantly turned his attention to me.

“This is, Chloe, a special guest staying on my territory.” I introduced her to everyone.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Chloe. I’m Alpha Victor, this is my son Xander, Beta Ron and Warrior Kane.” He said with a soft smile. I couldn’t quite make out the emotions swirling in his eyes. It almost seem like he recognized her.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you all.” Chloe replied, but I could tell she was uncomfortable. Probably because of the way Alpha Victor had been looking at her when she first arrived.
