Saving His Feral Mate -
Chapter 87: The end
Chloe POV
We hiked back to the SUV and loaded in. It was a bit of a tight fit with the twins up front and the rest of us in the back. Max was practically sprawled across the three of us in the backseat. It certainly wasn’t going to be a comfortable car ride. Luckily I was told wherever we were going was only a few minutes away.
Freda and Toby were quiet the entire ride. I could tell they were nervous about the change and I couldn’t blame them. They’ve lived alone for so long, it’s not going to be easy to integrate back into a pack. Toby was actually born a rogue so it was even worse for him. He’s never lived with anyone other than his parents.
My own anxiety was building. I was so excited to see my father again, but I was also nervous about this big secret. Everyone was doing a good job at keeping me in the dark. I literally had no clue what it could be.
My eyebrows furrowed together when we turned down a dirt road that I didn’t recognize. I didn’t even bother asking where we were since I knew I wasn’t going to get an answer.
As we got closer, I felt Max tense and her face held a mixture of emotions that I didn’t understand.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her.
“Nothing, it’s just been a while since I last came this way.” She replied. I had no idea what she was talking about, but by her tone I knew it was pointless to question her further.
We pulled up to a set of tall gates. I noticed a few guys standing on the inside of them. I think we had reached someone’s territory. The guards nodded at Preston who was our driver before opening the gates and granting us access. Who’s territory was this?
We drove through the gates and down a narrow road for another five minutes before a large building came into view. It was slightly smaller than our pack house, but way bigger than a standard house.
I noticed a few people standing out front of the building. They appeared to be waiting for us. As we got closer, I recognized the people standing out front as Knox, Jo and my father.
My heart started beating faster, I was so excited to finally be reunited with my father.
As soon as Preston put the vehicle in park, I jumped out and ran towards them.
By the look on my fathers face it was clear Knox hadn’t given him the heads up that I was still alive. Good, I wanted to see his reaction.
“It can’t be.” I heard him whisper as I got closer. His eyes were filling up with tears by the second.
“How is this possible?” He asked sound completely shocked.
“I survived father. I’m alive.” I said as I stopped right in front of him. His hand reached up to touch my face and as soon as his fingers brushed against my cheek, tears fell from his eyes. The realization had sunk in and he quickly wrapped his arms around me in a bone crunching hug.
“Oh my goddess, I missed you so much. I thought I lost you.” He said while continuing to hug me.
“I missed you too.” I said softly.
“How?” He asked, but before I could answer he turned to Knox.
“You knew?” He asked.
“I found out yesterday when she came home.” Knox replied.
“No wonder you look a million times better than the last time I saw you.” My father said as he finally released me from the hug, but kept his arm around my shoulders.
“What happened? How did you survive?” My father asked still sounding completely shocked.
I told him everything that happened as he listened intently. His face held so many emotions but the main ones were relief and love.
“Wow, I still can’t believe you’re alive. I need to meet these rogues so I can’t thank them for saving my baby.” My father stated.
“Well you’re going to get that chance. The twins managed to convince them to join their pack.” I stated.
“That’s amazing, where are they?” He asked and I motioned towards the vehicle. The twins, Max, Freda and Toby were all standing by it waiting for our reunion to be over.
The twins motioned for Freda and Toby to follow them as they made their way over to where we stood. As they got closer I noticed my father stiffen next to me. I glanced up at him, his face had paled slightly and his expression was that of disbelief.
“Mate” I heard him practically whisper and my eyes widened. I looked over towards Freda and her expression mirrored my father’s. No way! They were second chance mates.
My father’s arm dropped from my shoulder as he quickly made his way over to Freda.
He slowed as he got closer to her and stopped only inches away.
“What’s your name, beautiful?” He asked and she blushed at the complement.
“Freda.” She replied softly.
“Freda.” My father repeated her name.
“I’m Vincent, it’s so nice to meet you.” He said sincerely.
“It’s nice to meet you too.” She replied shyly.
My father slowly lifted his hand towards her face and paused before touching her, basically giving her a chance to stop him if she wasn’t comfortable. When she didn’t move away, he cupped her cheek and brushed his thumb along her skin. Her eyes closed and she leaned into his touch.
Thank you, Freda, for saving my daughter.” He said with so many emotions clinging to his words.
“It was nothing.” She replied as her eyes finally fluttered open.
After a few minutes of silence where they both just stared at each other, Toby cleared his throat to get their attention. Both my father and Freda turned towards Toby. Freda shook her head like she had just realized the trance they had been in.
“Sorry. Vincent, this is my son, Toby.” Freda introduced and my father shook Toby’s hand.
“It’s nice to meet you.” My father said.
“Likewise.” Toby replied, but he had that same serious look on his face that he had when I first met him. It’s probably going to take my father a bit of time before Toby warms up to him.
Knox came over and wrapped his arm around my waist before kissing my cheek.
“I missed you.” He whispered next to my ear.
“Where are we?” I decided to ask as my father talked to Freda and Toby.
“This was Alpha Alec’s old territory.” He replied and my eyebrows furrowed together. Why would he bring me here? And why was my father here?
“Come inside, let’s give them a few minutes to get to know each other.” Knox suggested and I nodded.
Everyone followed us except for my father, Freda and Toby. It was clear Toby wasn’t ready to leave his mother alone with my father yet and I think that was understandable. My father would have to earn his trust first.
Now that I knew where we were, I understood why Max was tense in the vehicle. This was her old pack and she must have been flooded with all kinds of memories when we got close, just like what happened to me when we arrived at my old pack.
We walked in the front doors of the pack house and I saw people walking around. They eyed us curiously, but no one came over. By the smell in the air I knew they were rogues. There were even kids running around and they were also rogues.
My thoughts where interrupted when my eyes locked on the portrait above the fireplace in the living room. It was a large picture of me. Why was my picture here?
“Do you like it?” Knox asked in a hopeful tone.
“Why is my picture here?” I asked with a frown.
“We opened this place in your honour. It’s a rogue refuge, but also a rehabilitation centre. It’s a place where they can live safely but also learn how to live amongst others again. We offer school for the kids and training for the adults so when they are ready to join a pack they have some skills to land a job. Once they graduate from here they have the choice to join either our pack, the twins or Victor’s. Your father has been running the place with the help of the twins friends.” Knox explained and I started to cry. Not a few lone tears, oh no, this was a full on ugly cry.
“Are you ok?” He asked worriedly as he wrapped his arms around me.
“I’m more than ok, I can’t believe you did this.” I said between sobs. I must of looked like a hot mess with snot running out of my nose and everything.
“You saved all these people, Chloe. You opened my eyes to the fact that not all rogues are bad and that I shouldn’t be judging them based on status alone.” He said and I immediately hugged him.
“Thank you so much, Knox. This is incredible.” I sobbed.
“How did you pull all this off?” I asked while wiping the tears from my cheeks.
“Everyone helped out. The twins and their friends went out to recruit since they already knew where to replace a bunch of these people. All three packs asked for volunteers to come and work here. I was actually surprised by the number of volunteers, so many people from our pack were willing to come and honour your name by helping out.” He stated and his words only triggered another fit of sobs. Knowing my pack cared so much about me warmed my heart.
“Isn’t it great?” Max asked excitedly.
“It’s amazing.” I replied.
“Is this how you got Freda and Toby to agree to come?” I asked the twins.
“Sure is. We told them all about this place and they were eager to see it. I have a feeling they’ll be staying here with your father instead of joining our pack.” Preston replied with a wink and I smiled. I was so happy for my father, him and Freda were a perfect match for each other.
“There’s one more surprise.” Knox stated and I saw his lips twitch upwards.
“Come on.” He added before guiding me through the pack house.
We arrived at a set of doors and Knox slowly opened them. When the doors were fully opened, I noticed that it lead into a hall and there were people inside.
“Surprise!” I heard from within.
My eyes scanned the crowd and I found everyone that was important to me present, Betty, Tom, Lilly, Ron, Victor, Xander, Jag, Tessa, Sheryl and Connie. I gasped at the sight.
“You really are still alive!” I heard Betty squeal as she ran over to give me a big hug. Everyone else followed her lead.
“You never did get a celebration after your Luna ceremony, so I thought we could have one tonight.” Knox stated before leaning down and kissing my lips.
“I don’t know what to say.” I said feeling overwhelmed, but in a good way.
I also noticed the room was full of rogues, they must be the ones staying here.
‘Our mate is amazing.’ Tatiana said in my head, sounding like a love sick pup.
‘He really is.” I replied.
After a few minutes, my father came into the room with Freda and Toby. I heard him and Toby laughing and the sound was like music to my ears. I guess Toby warmed up to my father after all. Freda had a big smile on her face as my father guided her into the room with his hand on her lower back.
“You all knew?” My father asked to no one in particular.
“Knox told us this morning, he asked us not to tell you.” Victor stated with a mischievous grin on his face.
“I should be mad at you, but how could I? I now have these two beautiful women in my life.” My father stated to Knox as he wrapped his free arm around my waist.
“Please tell me this is it for surprises. I don’t think my heart can handle anymore.” I joked and everyone chuckled.
“I guess I shouldn’t tell you that I’m pregnant then?” Max stated casually and I heard Jo choke.
“What?! He stated with wide eyes as he smacked his chest trying to clear whatever it was he choked on. He was clearly as surprised as the rest of us.
“How is that possible?” He added while still looking shocked.
“Well, when you stick your d**k into a woman’s vagin…” Max started to explain but Jo cut her off.
“I don’t need the birds and the bees talk, Max. I know how babies are made. I mean, how are you pregnant? You were shot with a silver bullet.” He stated.
“Turns out this baby is just as stubborn as you. The doctor said he/she shouldn’t have made through all that but it did.” She replied with a casual shoulder shrug.
“Holy s**t! I’m going to be a dad?” Jo asked in disbelief as his eyes remained wide.
“Yup, you sure are.” Max replied.
Jo scooped Max up in his arms and spun her around in the air. He looked beyond happy.
“I’m going to be a f*****g dad!” He shouted before putting Max back down.
“Alright, settle down big guy.” Max chuckled.
“And lesson one, no swearing in front of kids.” Max stated with a pointed look before motioning towards the kids in the room with her head.
“s**t! I mean, sorry.” Jo stated while looking at the parents with an apologetic look on his face.
“Wow, that’s incredible. Congratulations you guys.” I said and gave them both a big hug. The rest of the crowd followed suit.
The rogues in the room came over and joined us. They were all very excited to chat with me since they had heard all about my story.
I felt a tug on my shirt and looked down to see a young girl no older than five standing in front of me. She was the cutest little thing with pig tails.
“Hi sweetie.” I said as I knelt down to her level.
“Thank you, Luna Chloe.” She said before giving me a big hug.
“I didn’t do anything sweetie, it was all these people.” I replied and motioned to everyone standing around us.
“That’s not what he said.” The little girl said and pointed to Knox who was watching our interaction closely.
“I want to be just like you when I grow up.” She added before kissing my cheek and running off. Her words left me completely speechless and pulled at my heart strings. I was beyond honoured by her words.
“You look good with a kid hanging off you.” Knox said with a mischievous grin as he wrapped his arms around me.
“You think so?” I asked as I placed my arms around his neck.
“I do, but I want you all to myself for a little while before a pup steals your attention.” He whispered next to my ear and I couldn’t agree more. I wanted kids, but after everything that’s happened, I really did want to be selfish for a while and keep him all to myself.
“Goddess, I love you.” He said as he leaned down and kissed me passionately.
“I love you too.” I replied once we broke apart.
My heart was full. I finally had a family and so much love in my life. This was were I belonged, in Knox’s arms surrounded by loved ones.
