Saving Kinsley -
Chapter 41
Kinsley's P.O.V
I found myself pinned under Conrad's vile form, with his half-shifted claws puncturing the tender flesh at my neck. Tears of frustration and fear streamed downwards, a sob leaving me as I struggled, fighting with every ounce of strength to escape. The pressure at my neck was growing as I fought tirelessly to breathe.
Just as my vision began to blacken, my surroundings were changing, the pressure lightening. I gasped as I looked up to see enchanting eyes staring back at me. Conrad was no longer here. The woman before me radiated an unworldly power as she cradled my head softly within her hands. Her expression soon changed to a gloomy one. My hands flew to my neck as I rubbed at the place where claws had been buried deeply, "Where am I?"
She shrugged, "Wherever you've taken us. I am just a visitor." I glanced around, the area felt familiar, but I didn't recognize it. "That doesn't make sense, I was just-" She nodded her head slowly as I sat up. I began to grow nervous, "Who are you?"
"I have many names, but you may call me Selene." My eyes went wide. Selene, The Moon Goddess all of us shifters prayed upon. The very being responsible as to why we even existed. There was only one reason why I would be talking to her, I had died. My eyes frantically began to search around as my chest tightened with hope, "Where is he?" She remained silent as she looked at me. "Where is Kole?"
"He's not here my child." Her melodious voice drifted on the light breeze. Jumping up, I began to search for him. He has to be here. I have to replace him. Where else could he possibly be if not here?
I was startled as she appeared directly in front of me, her hand placed at the top of my head. My body instantly rooted where I was standing, disobeying my directive to move. "You've had a rough journey, my child." Her head cocked to the side as she looked directly into my eyes, I fought back every instinct to look away. Desperate to see what had her so contemplative. She let out a soft sad sigh, "This isn't permanent, but I must do it as they are both intertwined. She will return to you when it is safe."
"What-" A pressure began to build, and soon I was screaming as the sheer agony became unbearable. The fiery pain was heavily focused in my chest. I screamed as my bonds ripped away from my reach, no longer existing inside of me. Collapsing to the ground, I cried out as I desperately searched for them.
They're gone. I finally realized as I searched inside myself for something I no longer had.
As I looked up, sorrow filling my heart at the emptiness, everything changed.
Excruciating pain engulfed me as I gasped out for air, my mouth and lungs were quickly filling up with the metallic taste I recognized as blood. My gasps were growing shallower by the second as I looked at my view of the Moon-filled sky. I could hear the ferocious growls around me from my place on the cold earth.
This was it. I thought, as my chest grew tighter with the burning effort it took to breath. I'd be with him soon. My vision began to blacken as I took in one last raspy breath. "Kole." As I shut my eyes, I could feel the phantom sensation of the sparks he caused, and that brought me comfort as I took my last breath.
