After security handled my brother and threw him out on his a ss I made sure to check on Corinna. I hadfound her curled up in the corner of her room hyperventilating. It had taken me over thirty minutes ofme trying to calm her down. But even after her body was still shaking. I knew that she was likely insome form of shock.

After she started crying again, I called my personal doctor to come over and he was over within twentyminutes. He was able to give her a sedative that knocked her out. I had never seen her so brokenbefore in my entire life. She looked like a deer in headlights and I would be lying if I said it didn’t touchmy heart in some way. The girl had been a bi tch but she didn’t deserve any of this. No one deserved tohave to live under the tyranny of a man like Ashton.

I knew that Adelaide didn’t want to ask for her help but after what happened today, I needed to dosomething. She would want me to do something. I had tried to call her but as expected my wife was stillavoiding me.

So I did the next best thing and decided to call someone for help. I called Angela and that was how sheended up sitting in my kitchen with a coffee mug in her hands. I had a glass of scotch in one hand andan ice pack over my knuckles.

The anger had dwindled and now all that was left were the little. remnants that lingered behind.

“Are you okay?” she finally broke the silence that had enveloped us.

“No.” I stared out the window. “This is all so f ucked up. You should have seen him, Angela.”

It wasn’t me who she had offended but that didn’t matter. What mattered was making sure that Corinnagot the help that she needed.

“Can you help her?” I took a sip of the scotch, allowing the liquid to burn my throat. It was ten in themorning and I was drinking hard liquor. I was by no means an alcoholic but it made this situationsomewhat bearable. “She needs to get rid of this as shole and I need the process to be as quick andefficient as possible.”

“I’m more than happy to help but I think it’s only fair you give me an explanation, Damon. You just wentghost on me. You didn’t respond to my texts or calls. Did I do something to upset you?”

I looked at her through my peripheral, giving her a side-eye. “I wasn’t trying to be a di ck. I was onlytrying to make my wife feel more comfortable.”

I watched her shoulders tense momentarily before they relaxed. “So it was Adelaide then?”

I nodded.

“She hates me?”

This time I turned to her. “She doesn’t hate you. But she just feels like you are trying to get a little tooclose to me.”

Her eyebrows pulled together into a frown. “Close to you? Like I want to steal you from her?”

I only prayed that the next thing that came out of my mouth didn’t destroy us even further.
