Chapter 100: Colton's face turned sickly pale as he stumbled backwards.
You have gone crazy.
His attempt to stop Allison's car was met with the deafening roar of the engine and a sudden, abrupt acceleration.
Allison's car showed no signs of slowing down.
In the blink of an eye, the vehicle was almost on top of him.
.
.
Bang! Instinctively, Colton pulled Melany by the arm and the two fell clumsily to the side of the road, narrowly avoiding disaster.
Allison, you're completely crazy.
, he shouted, with an expression of disbelief and fury.
I didn't expect her to be so ruthless.
Judging by the speed of the car, she hadn't hit the brakes, she had really intended to run them over.
Melany, equally shocked, couldn't hold back her tears, this time fueled by fear.
She really wanted to kill us! She is evil.
His voice shook as sobs racked his body.
Colton stood, anger simmering beneath the surface.
But instead of slowing down, Allison's car sped away, leaving only the acrid smell of exhaust fumes, a mocking reminder of her control over the situation.
Despite the shock, Colton couldn't allow himself to back away.
.
Grabbing Melany's arm, he growled: Come on.
Let's follow her.
Melany hesitated, clearly terrified, but finally slid into the passenger seat of Colton's car, with palpable reluctance.
Determined but cautious, Colton followed her at a safe distance.
However, their attempt at stealth did not escape Allison's sharp gaze.
Looking in the rearview mirror, Allison spotted them immediately.
A mocking smile appeared on her lips.
They're still following us, huh, she muttered to herself.
If she didn't deal with them now, they would continue to follow her every move.
Allison maneuvered expertly through the city streets, taking the curves like a seasoned driver, before entering the dark depths of Muisvedo.
He parked the car in an alley forgotten from civilization.
As Colton took in his surroundings, his expression darkened with distaste.
Muisvedo had earned its reputation as a breeding ground for trouble, especially after dark.
With its abundance of seedy bars, the streets were often the scene of drunken brawls and wayward souls struggling to survive.
Violence simmered beneath the surface, and more than one scuffle had ended with someone taking their last breath.
I'm not supposed to be with Mr.
Lloyd now.
What are you doing in this place? Don't tell me you're headed to one of those seedy bars.
Melany taunted, her voice dripping with venomous mirth.
I never thought Allison was the type to enjoy the nightlife.
Melany took every opportunity to tarnish Allison's reputation.
What had previously been an attempt to win Colton's affections had now become something fueled by Kellan's jealousy.
Why Allison, of all people, was going to have a better life than herThe couple followed Allison at a safe distance, close enough to watch her every move, but far enough to remain undetected.
Just as they turned a corner, a staggering drunk approached Allison, his eyes lighting up as if he'd stumbled upon a rare treasure.
Hi gorgeous! You feel lonely How about we share a drink, she stammered, almost tripping over her own feet as she tugged at her sagging pants.
His lascivious gaze swept over Allison and he extended a dirty hand to her face.
Colton frowned at the sight and his protective instinct kicked in.
After all, Allison was still his ex-wife.
But before he could take a step forward, Melany lightly touched his arm, stopping him with a nonchalant gesture.
Wait, Colton.
You don't remember how Allison handles herself.
She's been hiding her claws from you for years.
For all we know, this could be a trap.
And if you're trying to get into trouble with that drunk, you could end up looking like a fool.
To his surprise, Allison flashed a smile so bright it could have disarmed anyone.
You want my company.
Be careful what you wish for, he said in a voice sweet as sugar.
The drunk blinked in bewilderment, momentarily bewitched by her sudden charm.
But before he could say another word, Allison's knee abruptly connected with his groin.
Ahhhhhh! The man screamed, raw and animalistic, as he doubled over, clutching at the pain.
Colton winced, feeling a phantom pain as he watched the brutal blow.
It's nothing like it used to be, he whispered, his eyes fixed on the woman who fell.
stood before him.
It was like he was seeing a ghost from his past, one that had shed its soft skin.
There had been a time when Allison had been all softness, following him like a loyal shadow.
Even when he lashed out at her in his worst moments, she calmed him with words as calm as a calm lake.
But now, after their divorce, he saw her clearly.
Allison had never bowed to anyone, except, perhaps, to him during the three years they had shared.
That version of her was gone, and he couldn't help but wonder if he had let her escape forever.
