Chapter 113:Thank you, Lindy.

Melany's smile was sweet as honey, her tone gently reminding Lindy of her new status as daughter-in-law.

Then she turned her thoughts to watching her ex-husband walk out the door; After all, Melany was never one to burn all her bridges.

Even if she had lost her shine, a star that once shone still retained some influence, and who knew when it might come in handy.

Just as she stepped out into the hallway, Colton appeared before her, an illegible expression.

Where are you going, she asked.

I was going to say goodbye to my ex-husband, she responded with a measured smile.

I know I made a mistake by inviting him, but his intentions were pure.

She meant no harm.

Melany was no stranger to the power of humility or the art of commitment.

Timing was everything.

Her ex-husband had showered her with affection and wealth without a second thought.

He had even crossed the seas to witness their wedding.

Although he now treated her like a sister, it was impossible to miss the implicit adoration in his eyes.

Melany had a habit of keeping the doors slightly ajar, just in case.

And if fortune smiled on his ex again.

He reflected on his past generosity and then thought of Lindy's disdainful look and how her face had lit up when she spoke of the ten million dowry.

A bitter resentment began to brew inside him.

So, Colton, you don't care, do you? Colton, however, seemed oblivious to the storm of thoughts swirling in his mind.

I've already sent your ex-husband away, he said.

roundly.

And your parents are settled in a hotel.

Thinking about the circus that had been set up at the wedding, he frowned.

Today had been far from what I had imagined.

His mind was swirling with the silent judgment of the guests: he had become a laughing stock in their eyes.

Today everything has been a disaster.

Everything has been rushed.

His voice was strained with frustration.

If he had taken more time with his family, if he had known them better.

I hadn't anticipated them being so unpredictable.

I should have found a way to smooth things over.

Melany heard a slight mockery in his tone.

Her eyes widened in disbelief, and tears came to her eyes as her lips trembled.

“Colton, what are you trying to say,” she whispered, her voice shaking.

You're blaming my family.

You think they humiliated you.

I didn't know my ex would show up.

He came to celebrate with us, not to cause problems.

Her words stuck in her throat as tears threatened to spill over.

“And why, on our wedding day, did you send my parents to a hotel,” she continued, raising her voice.

You couldn't have prepared one of your family's properties for them.

They traveled a great distance and yet you let them stay in a hotel.

What will people think when they replace out about this? How are they not going to despise us? Colton's temper, already on edge, flared up again.

The disapproving looks of his guests were fresh in his memory.

If it hadn't been for his stubborn decision to marry Melany, he wouldn't have angered his grandfather, who had refused to attend.

And without his grandfather's presence, the guests had taken liberties, openly showing their disdain.

He had sacrificed so much for Melany - he had lost prestige among his own family - and her parents had repaid it by wreaking havoc on the wedding.

His behavior had been downright rude.

During the reception, a guest eager to toast and celebrate had been snubbed by his parents simply because his company was not considered valuable enough.

However, when wealthier guests approached, their parents fawned over them like sycophants.

They were shameless careerists.

His voice was strained with repressed rage.

You think I'm blaming you How did your ex replace out about our wedding if you hadn't told him? You 'invited' him, no.

Colton, Melany snapped, her tears forgotten and her voice high with anger.

You didn't want to invite your ex-wife to our wedding.

Why can't I invite my ex? I didn't send her the invitation; it was you You think I don't know what you're doing.

Colton, blinded by rage, spoke without thinking.

After all, Allison was an orphan with no authority or influence.

Even if she had gone to the wedding, she would have been a mere spectator.

However, Melany's ex-husband was different.

He had been a rich young man.

Her words today were meant to embarrass Colton.

Melany looked at Colton in disbelief, unable to understand why he was talking to her like that.

Colton, you're really scolding me about Allison.

Her eyes instantly turned red and tears began to fall down her cheeks.

Seeing her incredulous expression, Colton realized that he had spoken too harshly.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.

“I'm sorry,” he murmured.

I need to go out and clear my head.

Don't follow me.

Melany watched Colton's retreating figure, her anger rising as she stormed into the bridal chamber.

Looking around the room, decorated for the wedding, she gritted her teeth in fury.

In his fury, he threw the candles and wine glasses to the floor.

On the first day of their marriage, what should have been a joyous occasion had turned into chaos.

If the terrible Allison found out, she would surely be excited.
