Seekers of the Stone Maker -
Frost and Stone
Shaynth took a small, round item from their travel pack. The object was smooth, made of marble, and had a single hole that ran from one end to the other. They put it in their hands and focused. As calm came over Shaynth, music pushed out of the marble item from thin air.
Myla knew this item. It was a gift given to Shaynth years ago before they had even met. Though it was possible that Shaynth could learn an instrument, having something that could produce a melody alone was extremely helpful when on one’s own.
“It is time to close your eyes, little one.”
Myla did as she was instructed. The room was already dimly lit, so closing her eyes brought a darkness similar to nightfall. She was tired from the long day of travel, but it was vital for her to understand better and learn to control her abilities.
She could feel a slight breeze from the doorway behind her, the cold sliding up her spine as she took deep breaths and tried to focus. Shaynth had already sat down, so the room felt intensely silent. Myla wasn’t sure how Shaynth had done it, but there was no sound from outside to distract them. She breathed in and counted.
1… 2… 3… 4… 5…
She held it in.
1… 2… 3… 4… 5…
Then exhaled.
1… 2… 3… 4… 5…
Her shoulder felt wet and cold. Slowly, she raised her hand and brushed against it, turning to see snow coming off her arm and onto the icy ground below.
Where am I?
Looking around, she could tell she was in a large cavernous space. To the right was the exit, but to the left was just darkness. Myla squinted her eyes, trying to see beyond the lack of light, and stepped back in shock as she realized someone was standing at the edge of her sight. It was hard to notice because it was utterly unmoving, as if frozen in its space. She watched it momentarily, holding her arms as the intense cold ran through her clothing.
A large gust of wind blew in from the cave entrance, and large snowflakes blew past, some as large as her hand, as they floated through the air. The ice would catch the light and shine further in every so often. The snowflakes moved further and further in slowly until the light bounced off of them and gave light to the unmoving form.
She could see that the humanoid figure was made of stone. The snowflakes moved past it, the shadows claiming it again. The light moved further in, and she saw that it wasn’t just one figure but many. Robed humanoids or various races of all sizes.
Then she heard the deep breath of a creature and realized that it wasn’t a gust of wind that she felt. It was an exhale. To her left, she could feel the enormous creature’s long neck crane forward, its teeth coming into her periphery that were larger than the size of her body.
Who- Who are you?
I… It spoke the same sharpness as the freezing cold, its breath causing frost on the cave walls. I am the Great Icewing.
What are you doing here? Why did you bring me here?
To warn you. Do not come here. You will DIE!
Myla fell back as she felt the jaw of the white dragon snap towards her. She opened her eyes and shielded herself as Shaynth grabbed her by their hands and held her close.
“Myla!”
“I… I had another vision. I need to talk to the group.”
