Selling Myself To The Alpha -
Chapter 161
Philip POV
"Sheldon, I need an update," I bark when he answers the phone while Mandy and I walk to the car. With the help of Wolfsbane, the battle should be close to over. "We were winning," Sheldon replies.
"Were?" I growl and I can feel how I am nearing the end of my temper.
"Clear Moon came," Sheldon sounds nervous. "And the visiting alphas. Adele figured out you're using Wolfsbane, and she warned everybody. We lost our advantage." "We can still salvage this," I grunt irritated as I look at Mandy. "Every wolf's Achilles heel is the mate. Get Adele's mate and she'll surrender. Do you know where he is?" "At the factory protecting the elderly and children," he replies.
"Perfect," I smile. "They know and trust you. Get in there and...."
"I'm afraid that's impossible," Sheldon interrupts me. "I left Moonstone."
"What do you mean you left?" my voice is dark and ominous. "You're supposed to be my eyes and ears. That was our agreement."
"I did my part," he insists. "But being shot at with a crossbow was never the deal. I'm taking my family to safety."
"What the fvck are you talking about?" I growl.
"Luna Liana," he huffs. "She's pregnant and hunting wolves as if she's at a carnival trying to win a big, pink stuffed bear. That's not what I signed up for."
"Get your pansy ass back here," I hiss. "Or I swear to the goddess, I will have your head."
"Go ahead," he surprises me. "You might be a big bad wolf, but she scares the s*it out of me. If she's capable of fighting while pregnant and in human form, I don't even want to think what she will do to me as a wolf when she replaces out I helped you." "You better run far and fast," I threaten him. "Because you'll beg for an arrow when I replace you."
"Good luck, Philip," he says before he disconnects the call.
"Son of a b!tch," I look at the dead device in my hand. I do not care what it takes, I will replace him and kill him slowly.
Things have spiralled out of control. There are too many witnesses and fingers to point at me. The alphas were supposed to stay put while my men took care of Adele and her pack. My men would paralyse and kill everyone and then disappear. End of story. I knew Axel was going to help, I was counting on it because I wanted him dead. I did not calculate on losing the battle, and defeat tastes bitter.
There is nothing that I can do to salvage the situation. The other alphas will have my neck for this. But I will have my revenge before my reign ends. After all, I have nothing to lose.
I look at Mandy and my blood starts boiling. This was her idea, and I should not have listened to her. I was captivated by her body and let my guard down.
"Sorry, sugar, but this is going to hurt," I glare at Mandy and her eyes widen.
"What do you mean?" She swallows.
I reply by punching her in the nose. She screams and stammers backwards.
"What are you doing?" She whimpers as she clamps her bleeding nose.
"Revenge" I reply and slap her across the face.
She falls to the floor, and I deliberately rip her blouse before pulling her up by the hair.
"Please, Philip," tears stream down her face. "I don't understand. I'm on your side."
"I know," I smile, and my fist connects with her jaw.
This time she does not bother getting up and I kneel next to her.
"I'm sorry," I push a string of hair behind her. "This was necessary. I'm going to take you to the factory. Run to the entrance and beg for help. They'll let you inside. I want Adele's mate. His name is Luther. Mind-link me what you see. Do you understand?" She nods but does not look at me.
"Good girl," I pull her trembling body against my chest and help her onto her feet.
Luther POV
Restless I pace up and down in Sheldon's office. I could not dare stay among the children a moment longer. They need an example of calm, and I am anything but. I heard Adele's orders. Wolfsbane?!
My nerves are shot, and I am dying to be with her. I know she is a fighter and strong, but she is the love of my life and the air that I breathe. I will not be able to survive without her.
"Excuse me, sir," Shane says apologetically as he enters.
There's a she-wolf at the gate asking for help."
"Is she from Moonstone?" I frown.
"No," he shakes his head. "But she's badly beaten."
"m coming," I grunt and start walking to the gate.
We have so many visiting alphas, that she could easily be part of their entourage. But how did she know to come here? If she is hurt, why is she not at the hospital?
My frown deepens when I see the woman and I walk faster.
Shane was not kidding, whoever got hold of her, did a number. She needs help but I am not endangering the children.
"Stay alert," I whisper to Shane. "I'm going to her; I'm not letting her in."
Shane and another guard follow me outside the gates, and I kneel by her.
"What's your name?" I ask softly as I lift her face.
"Mandy," she mumbles through clenched teeth, and I realise her jaw is broken.
Interrogating her now would be inhumane. She is in a tremendous amount of pain, and it will be too difficult for her to talk.
"You need a doctor," I say sympathetically and signal Shane to help. "Hell take you to the hospital. We can't help you here." She moans and reaches for me when Shane picks her up.
"Philip wants you," she croaks. "Hide."
"Where is he?" I ask urgently but before she can reply, a shot echoes. Shane's eyes roll backwards, and he collapses to his knees.
"Get her to safety," I order the other wolf, and he picks up and runs towards the factory. But a shot goes off and he falls before he can reach the gate.
Frantically, I look around for the shooter while I pull Mandy from under the guard. Another shot is fired, and she goes limp in my arms.
Guards run closer and surround me like a shield.
"Sir, get inside," one says hastily.
"If he does, you will follow in your buddies' footsteps," Philip's words are cold behind me, and I push past the guards to face them.
Philip points his gun at me, and his eyes are wild and evil. I lift my hands as I consider my options. There is no way in hell I am allowing this lunatic near the children. But he will not hesitate to shoot and kill the guards if they try to overpower him. It does not matter which way I argue it, somebody will die.
"Go back," I order the guards, but they stick to my side.
"I said, fall back!" I snap at them, and they reluctantly retreat.
"You heard the man," Philip sways the gun. "If you want to see another day, move back."
Hon, how are you doing? I mind-link while keeping Philip's gaze.
We did it, she replies cheerfully. We won. Those who didn't die surrendered. We're busy tying them up.
I'm proud of you, I reply relieved. Philip might shoot and kill me on this spot, but he will not get far. All I need to do is buy Adele time to get here. If you could come to the factory and kill Philip, I would appreciate it. Keep him occupied, I'm coming, she replies.
"So?" I raise my eyebrows. "Are you going to stare me to death or what?"
"Or what," he motions with the gun that I should go closer."
You're just the bait."
"You're not the badass I thought you were," I taunt him as I step forward. "A gun? Seriously? What self-respecting alpha uses a gun?"
"The kind that survives," he smirks. "I didn't get to where I am by sticking to the rules."
"I'm not that surprised," I shrug nonchalantly. "Just disappointed. I expected more from an alpha that specializes in illegal abortions and organ transplants."
"You know?" His eyes narrow.
"We know everything," I smirk.
"Not everything," he grins. "That doesn't matter anymore.
Like many great men before me, I lost myself in a woman and now I must pay the price. But not before I get my revenge. I will die with a smile once Axel and Adele are dead."
"Well, then I guess you'll die frowning," I grin.
"Don't underestimate a man with nothing left to lose," he glares at me, and I burst out laughing.
"Why are you laughing?" He bellows.
"My wife's going to kick your a*s," I chuckle before he strikes me in the gut.
