Chapter 157

“By the way, I heard you were bidding for that parcel of land by the airport,” Thomas addressedWinston after taking a sip of wine.

Winston nodded curtly. “Yes.”

Curious, Thomas prodded, “What for?”

“I plan to build a manor,” Winston replied matter–of–factly.

Millie stole a quick glance at him. Looking disappointed, she lowered her head and took a sip ofwater. The rumors about Winston spending a fortune to build Joanna a manor were true, then..

Once again, she sighed at the depth of Winston’s love for Joanna. His love was reserved for two–himself and Joanna.

“What makes you think of building a manor by the airport?” Thomas sounded surprised.

Winston couldn’t help but look at Millie. She knew he was hesitant to hurt her with the truth, andshe, too, would not want to hear the words from his mouth.

“Uncle Thomas, stop asking.” She placed her cup on the table and checked the time. before sayingto Winston, “Winston Green, come with me.”

With that, she left the room.

Winston excused himself and followed behind Millie. Right after they left the room, she grabbed hisarm and dragged him to a quiet corner.

His gaze traveled from her hand to her determined figure, which provided hi… with a sense ofsecurity. It had been a while since she held his hand this way.

Millie turned to check on him with frustration and mixed feelings. Shoving him into a corner, shecrossed her arms on her chest.

“What was that?” she demanded.

The light in Winston’s eyes dimmed. He succumbed to her tenderness, only to be woken up toreality by her impatience.

“Watch your attitude!” he let out a deep, raspy growl.

“What?” she thought, taken aback.

“Did you do nothing else other than have dinner with your Uncle Thomas?” Winston questioned witha puzzled frown.

Lifting her chin, she snapped, “Yeah. Why?”

“Was he the only person you met at the Grand Santiago Hotel lately?” He followed up with anotherquestion.

His behavior appeared bizarre to her, as he was never interested in her life.

“Answer my question.” He scrunched up his brow, looking displeased at her lack of

response.

Staring into his eyes, she confronted him, “Mr. Greer, why the urgency?”

“Millie Caldwell, we’re still husband and wife now.” Winston was clearly pissed.

A faint smile played on her lips. Arms still crossed on her chest, she tossed her hair, lookingdazzling in her black dress. The warm light illuminated her profile and accentuated her beauty.

“Mr. Greer, why did you forget you have a wife when you spent a fortune on your first love?”

He paused. Did she accuse him of spending a fortune on Joanna? All he had done was purchase afew bags for her–a gesture that hardly qualified as extravagant.

Or was Millie still not over the fact that Joanna regifted his bouquet to her?

“That did not count as ‘spending a fortune.” He let out an exasperated chuckle. The whole situationfelt ridiculous.

Her heart trembled. See? He hadn’t batted an eye at building a manor for Joanna. Once again, shewas let down.

“Winston Greer, let’s not get into these debates since we’re divorced. And do not question me aboutmy life. Whoever I meet at the Grand Santiago Hotel or dine with is none of your business.Understood?” she croaked.
