Chapter 22

Millie arrived at Purple Aster Restaurant for her blind date the next evening.

Millie crossed her arms over her chest. She stood before the window and gazed at the scenery. Shewore a sexy white one–shoulder dress.

“Ms: Caldwell?” A man’s voice rang out from behind. It sounded a little familiar.

Millie’s eyes rounded when she turned and saw who it was. Shock filled her face as she asked, “Mr.Harrison?”

She couldn’t believe her blind date was Simon Harrison. It

as 10 wonder Terrence got all emotional the other night when she told him she had saved Patrick’slife.

Simon’s lips curved into a soft smile as he carried himself with gentleness and elegance. “Yep, it’sme.”

He politely pulled out Millie’s chair before motioning her to sit.

Millie’s shocked gaze remained on him.

“Are you that surprised?” Simon shifted nervously upon being stared at by her. He was a little olderthan Millie, so the latter was still a young lady in his eyes.

Now that he saw her up close, he realized she was indeed beautiful.

Millie always had a bright complexion. Her white dress only made her skin glow more. It was to thepoint where one couldn’t keep their eyes off her.

Simon was already impressed with her that night at the banquet. That said, he never imaginedshe’d take his breath away even more today.

Millie smiled, nodded, and asked, “Indeed, I am. How’s your father?

“Thanks to you, my father’s doing well now. I’ve been so

preoccupied that I never kept my word about visiting and expressing our gratitude to you. Pleaseforgive me.” Simon was elegant as he took his time to enunciate each word.

Millie felt like a lowly person when facing his gracefulness. With a slight smile, she replied, “There’sno need for such formalities. I’m happy to know your father is well.”

“Should we order now?” Simon asked.

“Yes.” Millie nodded.

Simon then called a waiter over and handed the menu to Millie.

Later, when they were dining, Millie abruptly spoke up. “Mr. Harrison, I won’t beat around the bushsince we’re already acquainted. Truth is, mine and Winston’s divorce hasn’t been finalized yet.”

“I heard about it.” Simon nodded like he didn’t mind it.

“You’re a good person, and you’re someone I’m unworthy of. Let’s consider today as a mealbetween friends. You don’t have to take the blind date seriously.” Millie believed that one shouldn’tharm those they were acquainted with.

Simon stiffened. “Are you only saying I’m a good person to let me down nicely?”

Millie immediately clarified, “No, I swear you’re an excellent man.”

A light laugh came from Simon. “Oh? Is there anyone in this world you replace unworthy? You needn’tbe so polite. I’m taking tonight’s dinner date seriously.”

Millie was at a loss upon seeing how serious the former was.

That was when Simon cut to the chase. “I’m against blind dates. The reason I’ve shown up today isbecause you’re my blind date.”

“Is it because I saved your father?” Millie instinctively voiced.

Simon shook his head at once. “No, I’m here because I admire you.”

Millie shrugged, not knowing what was there to admire about her. Not to mention, she’d be awoman with a marriage history after divorcing Winston.

“Mills?” Someone called out to Millie then.

Millie looked up and saw Joanna, who linked arms with Winston.

Winston wasn’t wearing a suit today. Instead, he wore an outfit he used to wear back in college. Itwas a sweatshirt and sweatpants combination, which was casual and youthful.

On the other hand, Joanna donned a pink dress. She looked beautiful as she stood beside Winston. The two were a perfect match.

“So, it really is you, Mills! I thought I’d mistaken you for someone. else.” Joanna’s eyes curved indelight before she looked at Simon.” Oh! You’re here, too, Mr. Harrison.”

“Mr. Greer, Ms. Lowell.” Simon stood and politely greeted the two.

Winston nodded slightly in response.

“What are you guys doing here?” Joanna asked Simon.

Simon glanced at Winston, then back at Millie. It was as if he were asking Millie whether sheminded him telling the truth.

Millie was grateful that Simon cared about her feelings.

She nodded.

Winston felt displeased as he watched the two exchange looks.

A moment later, Simon revealed, “We’re on a blind date.”

Winston’s dark, hostile gaze snapped toward Simon as he questioned, “A blind date?”

Millie sipped her red wine without paying Winston any attention. Even so, she could still sense hisfiery stares coming her way.

“You two?” Winston’s eyes narrowed to slits.

Simon answered, “Yeah.”

Barely detectable, complicated emotions flickered in Winston’s eyes.

Joanna couldn’t help remarking, “Mills! How could you go on a blind date when you and Winstonhaven’t even gotten divorced?”

Millie raised her head after hearing that. She fixed her gaze on Joanna while speaking hoarsely.“Oh, so you’re aware he and I haven’t gotten divorced yet, huh?”

Joanna was speechless upon being questioned like that.

What Millie said was equivalent to saying, “Why do you keep hanging out with my husband likeyou’re a couple if you know he and I aren’t divorced yet?”

“L…” Joanna’s lips parted as she frowned pitifully at Winston.

Winston immediately pulled Joanna to his side and defended her. ” You don’t have to be so mean,Millie. Jo’s question was harmless and didn’t mean anything!”

Millie took in how he defended Joanna, and her heart grew bitter. She had merely responded toJoanna, yet Winston pulled Joanna behind him protectively. Was he afraid she’d do something toJoanna, whom he adored?

That was when Simon spoke up. “Mr. Greer, Ms. Caldwell didn’t mean anything either. She wasonly stating facts.”

Winston’s attention shifted to Simon as he wondered, “What’s his deal? Doesn’t he know Millie’s mywoman? How dare he go on a blind date with her before mine and Millie’s divorce is finalized? Now,he’s even defending Millie to my face! Is he trying to challenge me?”

His gaze swept toward Millie, and he spoke blandly. “You’ve got quite the charm, Ms. Caldwell. You’ve just asked to divorce me, yet you already have a new knight in shining armor now.”

Millie frowned, wondering why Winston was being so resentful. He was allowed to have Joanna ashis other woman during his and Millie’s marriage. If that was the case, why wasn’t Millie allowed togo on a blind date?

Winston looked at Simon again and smirked. “Can the famed Harrison family even accept a womanwho’s had a past marriage into their family?”

Simon stepped forward. He was about to refute Winston when Millie interrupted him.

Millie smiled and spoke in a composed demeanor. “Why should I be judged by others if even Ms.Lowell can be with a previously married man?”

All warmth left Winston’s face in that instant. He couldn’t believe she had called him a previouslymarried man.

Simon couldn’t help but snort with laughter. He agreed with what Millie said. After all, if Millie was apreviously married person, wouldn’t the same apply to Winston?

Millie’s gaze flickered to Joanna. Then, she cocked a brow and questioned, “Ms. Lowell, do youmind that Mr. Greer has a marriage history?”

Joanna’s grip tightened around Winston’s arm. Naturally, she didn’t

care about that.

She couldn’t care less about how many marriages Winston had been in. All that mattered was heultimately belonged to her. She’d be okay with anything.

Winston’s expression had darkened like a terrifying storm.

Millie shot him a vicious glare. Thrill coursed through her body now that she had gotten even withthem.

Joanna could tell the atmosphere was off, so she tried to smooth things at once. “Mr. Harrison andMills look pretty good together. It’d be a happy ending if they got together, right, Win?”

Winston raised his head to meet Millie’s eyes. He mused, “Millie and Simon? A happy ending?”
