Chapter 315
Millie paused briefly before rushing into the elevator. Then, she quickly deleted the messagecontaining the number and pressed the floor button. By the time she arrived, she saw that Jake hadsent her a question mark.
Millie scratched her nose and replied, “Sorry, Mr. Webson, I sent it to the wrong person.”
Jake: “Who did you want to send it to?”
Millie: “Simon, He wants to collaborate with Rachel.”
Jake: “What kind of collaboration?”
Millie: “I’m not sure. It seems like he’s looking for a brand ambassador or someone to promote theirjewelry products.”
Jake grew anxious upon learning that. Wouldn’t this interfere with his plans? If Rachel acceptedSimon’s deal, could she still take on his endorsement?
Jake: “Mills, are we friends?”
Millie narrowed her eyes after reading his text, wondering why he was asking this out of the blue. She replied, “Not really.”
Jake: “Oh, come on! Don’t say that!”
Nevertheless, Millie ignored him and sent Rachel’s manager’s contact information to Simon. Shewrote, This is the contact for Rachel’s manager. I’ve already informed Rachel. You can discuss itwith them.”
In no time, Simon got back to her. His message read, “Thank you. I’ll treat you to a meal if it worksout.”
Millie: “No need to thank me.”
Jake, on the other hand, was still texting her. “Mills, let’s have a meal together. I have something todiscuss with you.”
Jake: “Mills, although you and Winston are divorced, I think…”
However, Millie could not be bothered to read the rest of his message. She set her phone to “DoNot Disturb and got to work.
Jake couldn’t help but feel frustrated. Rachel’s rejection was hard to take, especially when Simoncould easily reach her because of Millie’s friendship with her
Suddenly, it dawned on him that he should go through Millie if he wanted to work with Rachel.
“Millie,” Lainey suddenly called out.
Millie nodded in response. “Yes?”
Come with me to the outpatient clinic today.”
“Coming.” Millie hurriedly put on her white coat and followed Lainey. As they took the elevator tohead
down, she overheard several department heads greeting Lainey.

“Dr. Quinn, we heard the deputy chief position is now vacant.”
Lainey, unusually cheerful, teased, “What’s the matter? Are you guys planning to jump ship?”
“Oh no, we’re not going anywhere. The others chuckled and remarked, “The cardiac surgerydepartment is so exhausting.”
“There’s no department that isn’t exhausting.” Lainey replied lightly, glancing at her phone.
Meanwhile, Millie stood behind them. She quietly listened to their conversation without uttering asingle
word.
“So, do you have any suitable candidates for promotion?” one of the department heads asked.
Lainey responded, “Not at the moment. I’ll have to observe for another month.”
“I think Vanessa is quite promising. Maybe you can consider promoting her.”
Lainey jested, “Wow, Dr. Lane, it looks like you’re quite familiar with our department.”
The group laughed and then exited the elevator.
Millie trailed behind Lainey, who suddenly asked, “What do you think of Vanessa?”
“Dr. Xander? She’s quite good,” Millie answered honestly, her hands clasped behind her back.
Yet, Lainey sighed and commented, “She’s still quite inconsistent.”
Millie narrowed her eyes upon hearing that, unsure what Lainey meant by that.
“It’s going to be a busy day today.” Lainey said wearily while staring at the computer. “Please helpme keep an eye on things.”
Millie chuckled wryly and replied, “Dr. Quinn, you’re kidding, right? How could I possibly help youoversee things?”
“Well, Dr. Lloyd said you’re a promising talent,” Lainey said, glancing up at her.
Millie halted in the middle of pulling out the chair and asked, “What else did Dr. Lloyd say?”
“Isn’t it enough that he called you a promising talent? Don’t you know he hardly ever praisesanyone? But he actually complimented you.”
Millie blinked repeatedly. Of course, that wasn’t what she meant. She was afraid that Sebastianmight accidentally reveal something about her.
“I’m eager to see if you’re truly a promising talent,” Lainey quipped with a smirk. She was clearly notentirely convinced yet.
