Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier) -
Chapter 96
"Yep!" replied Winnie with a smile and a nod. "That's exactly what I told the police. How did you know, Mommy? The policeman even said I was brave for telling him that. You think I'm brave too, don't you, Mommy? Is that why I get to eat these delicious cakes?"
With that, Winnie gazed at Yara with her pair of puppy-dog eyes as if she was waiting for a compliment from her mother.
As if! Why the heck would I think she's brave? Is this dumbass deliberately trying to upset me? At that moment, Yara got so furious that the veins on her forehead popped out.
Yara's lips began to tremble as she did her best to suppress her emotions. "Winnie, I know you're a good girl, but Kylie's your sister. Why would she ever push you off a hill? It was already dark then, so you probably made a mistake. Maybe Kylie was trying to save you."
"Really?" Winnie then gave Yara a blank look. "But the policeman said Kiki already admitted that she did it."
"She only did it because she had no choice; she was forced to do so!"
"So Kiki is innocent? What do we do then?"
"She is! I can't lose either one of you because you're both my beloved daughters, so can you do me a favor?"
Convinced that Winnie was as gullible as a child, Yara did not think she would have any problem making her stepdaughter do what she wanted. "You just have to tell the police that you were missing for a few days because you were playing hide-and-seek and that it has nothing to do with Kylie. Do you think you can do that?"
"Huh? But I'm a good girl. I can't lie," answered Winnie with a pout.
"That won't make you a bad girl, silly. You're only doing this for your mother and sister's sake."
"Pfft! You're despicable, Yara. I suggest you leave Winnie alone!" Jacinta pulled Winnie to her side before sneering, "You talk as if you own the police station. Do you seriously think you can get the police to close the case of an attempted murder with just a lie? Come on, Winnie. Let's get you home!"
"Hold it right there! Who do you think you are, you old hag?" Upset that her plan was about to be foiled by Jacinta, Yara pushed the elderly woman.
Winnie was not going to sit by idly while Yara got physical with Jacinta, so she slapped her stepmother on the face. "What are you doing, Mommy? You can't push Granny. Granny is an elderly person, and we should always love our elderlies."
Even though Winnie did not smack Yara with all her strength, it was enough to cause her palm to turn red.
Still, it was not as bad as Yara's cheek since a red slap mark had slowly appeared on the woman's face. "How dare you hit me!" Yara was stunned.
"So what if she did?" Jacinta was glad to see Yara being taught a lesson. "You're not thinking about retaliating, are you? Let me remind you that you still need Winnie's help, not to mention the two bodyguards waiting for her just outside. I'd love to see you try!"
In the end, Yara took a deep breath and suppressed her anger.
After recomposing herself, the woman smiled as she held Winnie's hand. "I'm sorry, Winnie. I know I shouldn't have pushed your grandmother. How is your hand? Does it hurt?"
Winnie smirked inwardly when she saw how Yara groveled before her. I bet she never saw this day coming.
In response, the young woman smiled at Yara. "No, not anymore. However, I need you to apologize to Granny, Mommy."
Left with no choice, Yara did as requested.
"Are we good now, Winnie? Can you promise me that you'll tell the police to leave your sister alone?"
Winnie continued smiling at Yara, which gave the woman goosebumps. "I can't do that, Mommy. It's because..." The young woman purposely left her sentence hanging as she turned to look at Hamish, who didn't say anything. Even though Yara had already humbled herself to beg Winnie, Hamish, Kylie's own father, remained unmoved. That was because he was the one who got Kylie locked away.
However, Winnie was not satisfied with picking on Yara only since she wanted revenge on both of them.
Hence, she smiled at Yara before continuing, "Because Louis told me the case was already set and that it'd be impossible to turn it around. I don't really know what that means, though. However, I remember that Daddy and Mr. Fairchild agreed to make Kiki some kind of goat. Mommy, do you know who Mr. Fairchild is? Kiki is a human being, right? How are they going to make her a goat? Oh, I remember now! Louis said 'scapegoat.' Mommy, what's a scapegoat? I heard Kiki would be sent to prison once she becomes a goat. Will she be eaten in prison?"
Yara was immediately dumbstruck when she heard what Winnie said.
She wasn't mentally challenged, so she naturally knew what a scapegoat was and who the "Mr. Fairchild" in question was.
"Hamish!" roared Yara. "Is what the dumbass said true? Did you really have our daughter locked away for Zyon's sake?"
Naturally, Hamish wanted to defend himself, but Jacinta interrupted him. "Do you still have no idea what kind of man you've married, Yara? The fact that he worked with you to cause my daughter's death should be more than enough to tell you what you needed to know. This man cares only about himself. Even if someone offers to buy you, he won't think twice about selling you away!"
"I know you're only trying to sow discord between us, you old hag!" cursed Hamish because he knew Jacinta was right.
"You're getting anxious, aren't you, you useless piece of trash?" questioned Jacinta rhetorically.
Yara was not home when Kylie turned herself in, but she never understood why her daughter did that. Kylie cried and begged to leave Chanaea when I was on the phone with her. However, after talking to Hamish for a while, she suddenly decided to surrender herself.
Afterward, Hamish would always answer phone calls in secret. Yara caught him doing so several times and was sure that the man was speaking to Zyon. It all makes sense now. It turns out Hamish betrayed his own daughter to please Zyon.
"You're a monster, Hamish! I'll kill you!" Like a madwoman, Yara began throwing anything she could get her hands on at her husband.
Hamish only defended at first, but then he started fighting with Yara.
Winnie simply watched the couple fight with no intention of stopping them. On top of that, she ordered her bodyguards to disperse the nearby waiters.
After they stepped out of the cafe, Jacinta wiped her tears and said between sobs, "You probably don't know this, but Hamish used to beat your mother up like that because that homewrecker Yara would always talk behind your mother's back. You have no idea how good it feels to finally see them fight. It's such a shame that your mother's not around to see it. You did well to avenge her."
Winnie's eyes reddened, but she was not ready to let the couple off the hook just yet. They deserve worse after what they did to my mother!
