Sold To The Billionaire Alpha -
Chapter 27
Orchid
“The Luna is a surrogate mother to all. For that reason, she acts as a referee during battle training to ensure no one is taken advantage of,” said Luna Orla in a deadpan voice.
I nodded eagerly.
“If the training is becoming too rough, I just…order the guards to part them?” I clarified.
“Yes…or you could do it yourself,” she suggested.
Part two fighting wolves myself. Surely I would be ripped to shreds.
“Do you part them yourself?” I asked.
She just frowned at me and did not answer. Magnus and Bisa walked alongside us. They seemed to be struggling to remain quiet. Luna Orla walked quickly, keeping quite a few paces ahead of me.
“Luna Orchid,” whispered Magnus, pulling me back a little.
“Yeah?” I said.
“Please don’t go parting any wolf fights!” He whispered in earnest.
“I won’t,” I chuckled.
I knew Luna Orla was not giving me any real advice. She spent the whole Luna lesson session making a simple thing seem complicated. I was no werewolf expert but I was a medical school graduate with honours. I knew when someone was bullshitting me.
“Orion will expect you to handle minor issues independently. You can’t run to him for every little thing!” She said as we watched a group of ten to twelve year old wolves jog a lap.
I was shocked at how young they began training even though they did not have the ability to transform into wolves yet.
“They’re so young,” I commented.
Luna Orla sniffed. “My Orion began training at age three,” she said serenely.
What?!
“Three! A toddler!” I said, horrified.
“It’s never too early! That’s why he’s the best warrior Alpha in the North!” Exclaimed Luna Orla.
I didn’t know enough to confirm or refute that but Orion certainly seemed impressive to me. I felt a knot forming in my stomach. Would Luna Orla expect my little one to start learning how to fight that early? I sighed. We moved on to an area where the women were sparing. I gulped.
“Back when I was your age, the Luna had to prove herself by being the best. That clearly won’t be possible in your case!” She said looking at me up and down.
I sighed. Bisa rubbed my arm comfortingly. The she-wolves were sparing at such a speed their movements were blurred. A crowd of male warriors had gathered to watch and were being quite rowdy with their jeering and catcalls.
“Shouldn’t the guys show the she-wolves a little more respect?” I pointed out.
Luna Orla raised an eyebrow at me.
“It’s all in good fun,” she said stiffly
Magnus had joined the loud group of male warriors who seemed to be placing bets. A tall she-wolf with a long pale blond braid was fighting a stockier brunette. The brunette grabbed a fistful of sand from beneath them and threw it in her opponent’s face, momentarily blinding her.
“Is that allowed?” I asked, shocked.
“The Battlefield is a lawless land,” said the Luna.
Orion
I had my chauffeur park on Richmond street in front of the only optometrist’s office in sight. I walked into what was clearly an upscale place. The establishment was dubbed Social Eyes. There were designer shades and spectacles lining the walls behind glass cases. All the staff sported various designs themselves. I went to the front desk where an olive skinned woman with long dark hair was ignoring several ringing phones.
“Good day!” I said, keeping my tone friendly.
The woman looked up with a scowl forming on her face until her eyes actually landed on me and her expression softened. She removed her glasses.
“I don’t actually wear those! They force me to at this place! And they don’t suit me, in my opinion!” She informed me. “Welcome to Social Eyes. Our eyewear makes you want to socialise!”
“Ok,” I said politely. “I’m looking for Kathyann,” I said brightly.
She frowned.
“Why?” She asked bluntly.
“She’s a friend of my…girlfriend’s,” I explained. “I’m trying to throw my girlfriend a surprise party so I thought I’d get some backup,” I joked.
The girl beamed. “That’s so sweet!”
I grinned.
“Kathyann was fired recently!” Said the girl.
“How recently?” I asked quickly.
Orchid’s Mom clearly had not known.
“FIRED?! I QUIT!” Yelled a short girl stumbling out from the back.
She was almost two feet shorter than me. She could not be more than five feet exactly. She had a full figure and was wearing rather figure-hugging clothing for work. She had on a low-cut top and a skin-tight mini-skirt. She too was wearing designing shades which she proceeded to rip off of her face and throw in the bin. She had a rich brown complexion with dark eyes. Her dark thick curls were cut short, framing her face.
“Kathyann?!” I said excitedly.
She frowned at me. Her name tag read ‘Kathyann’. She took that off and threw it in the bin too.
“You were fired!” hissed the counter girl.
“I wouldn’t work here if you payed me!” Shrieked Kathyann.
“You did!” Pointed out Layla.
“Shut up, Layla!” Said Kathyann.
“Please depart the building!” Grumbled Layla.
“This isn’t purgatory, Layla!” Snapped Kathyann.
“Hurry up and leave!” Said Layla fiercely.
“Perhaps the situation can be remedied somehow?!” I interjected.
“No, only one of us can sleep with the boss at a time and that position is already filled by Layla!” Snapped Kathyann.
“How dare you?!” Shrieked Layla. “I am not sleeping with the boss! He’s my uncle!”
Kathyann snorted with laughter. “I don’t believe that for a second,” said Kathyann.
I really didn’t have time for this.
“Kathyann, you need to come with me right away. There’s an emergency regarding Orchid!” I lied.
“Well, I would think so. She works in the emergency room,” joked Kathyann.
I frowned.
“Tough crowd,” said Kathyann.
“I’m calling security!” Said Layla.
“We’re leaving!” I insisted.
“Oh…you can stay,” said Layla.
“Have a nice day!” I said awkwardly, hurrying out of the place, hoping Kathyann would follow me. Thankfully, she did.
“How’d you get fired from the job?” I asked immediately, unsure about operation bring Orchid’s friends to Orchid.
Kathyann sighed.
“I was actually sleeping with the boss,” she admitted. “And things went south.”
“And who are you?” She asked, staring at me.
“I’m Orchid’s boyfriend, Orion,” I said, simplifying things.
“She just got out of a relationship,” said Kathyann.
I shrugged.
“She usually moves at a snail’s pace. I’ve never seen her jump right into another relationship,” said Kathyann suspiciously.
I shrugged again.
“It was fate,” I said simply. “Our eyes met and we just knew,” I said, actually telling the truth in a way.
“Ok,” said Kathyann slowly, not buying it.
Kathyann folded her arms.
“So you’ll be able to explain why Orchid suddenly fell off the face of the earth and her parents are being weird about it whenever I try to get in touch with her,” said Kathyann, narrowing her eyes at me. This would not be as simple as I thought. I was not sure why I had envisioned Orchid’s friends as compliant enough to just follow me through a portal to a werewolf party.
“That’s my fault,” I said, taking responsibility.
“What did you do to her?” Asked Kathyann quickly.
“Let’s talk in my limo,” I suggested.
Kathyann raised her eyebrows. My chauffeur pulled up.
“Ohhh, I get it. Orchid’s a kept woman now! She doesn’t have time for us plebs anymore,” said Kathyann.
She seemed to be joking but I was not quite sure.
“Look, Kathyann, I really need your help to make Orchid’s surprise birthday party a success!” I admitted. “I also need to replace Daisy!”
Kathyann sighed.
“I’ll help you if you answer all of my questions about what happened to Orchid honestly!” Bargained Kathyann.
I would not be able to tell her about the auction and the Caro family exactly as it happened. She might not come to the party if she knew that. I would tell her the abridged version of the story.
“Deal,” I said with a grim expression, extending my hand.
“Deal!” She exclaimed, grasping my hand.
