Sold To The Demon Alpha -
Chapter 22
Aria’s POV
“Welcome back, Ari!” Sophia squealed when I entered the kitchen and pulled me into a hug.
I smiled even though my eyes were weary from not having enough sleep because I had missed her company.
Pulling back, I looked around and saw the other maids murmuring but not coming any closer and my smile dropped.
Looking around, Sophia rolled her eyes and pulled me out of the kitchen into the hallway.
“You look like you should be back in the infirmary. Rough night?” Sophia asked with a sympathetic smile on her face.
I nodded without saying more than that.
I had a nightmare and it was a wolf with scary red eyes that had starred in this latest episode.
I doubted Sophia would be pleased to know that so I opted for a smile and stifled a yawn. I had spent the rest of the afternoon after my release from the infirmary drawing a picture for Scian and a portrait of Roma that I planned to give to him today.
Just the thought of his name made butterflies erupt in my belly even though I knew it was a terrible idea to have a crush on a man that could snap my neck in one move.
A man who had every reason to hate humans.
“Don’t mind the others. They’re just scared after what happened with Natalia, you know. I heard the Alpha himself carried you to the infirmary. You’re such a lucky b***h, do you know that?”
My face turned red as I recalled how it had felt safe to be in Roma’s arms and how he had gotten angry at the fact that I was hurt again. He had saved me and I was yet to thank him properly for it.
“It’s not like that. He was just helping out, that’s all.” I whispered, my face still red from blushing and Sophia nodded, giving me a knowing smile and patted my shoulder.
“You shouldn’t worry about seeing Nat. She’s been transferred to work somewhere else in the castle. And don’t worry about the others too, alright? They’ll get over it soon and stop being awkward as hell, okay?”
Sophia said with a smile that made my heart soften even more. It felt nice to have a good friend here.
Nodding, I smiled as she pulled me back into the kitchen and I was about to leave for my other duties when Sophia was handed a tray of office to take to the Alpha’s office.
“The Alpha? As in Roma?” I whispered beside her as she waited to carry the tray from the head cook and she smirked, raising her eyebrows at me.
“Yep.” She answered and as she headed out of the kitchen, I walked beside her, my heart in my throat with excitement.
“Can I help you drop that?” I whisper yelled, my eyes earnest as I calculated the chances that she would agree to it in my mind.
“And why should I do that?” She answered, her smile growing wider and I bit my l*p to stop myself from smiling excitedly.
Because I want to see him, I thought.
This was my chance to see him and even though I wasn’t with his drawing now, I could use this as an opportunity to ask him when I could return which would give me the chance to see him twice.
This was a golden chance.
“Because you’re my friend and friends help each other out?” I answered persuasively and she halted, turning to look at me.
“What’s in it for me?” She asked and I remembered that she had wanted one of my earrings when I had first come to the pack.
“I’ll give you those earrings that you like so much. Deal?”
Her smile widened and she grinned as she delayed answering, knowing how nervous I was and enjoying it.
After what felt like hours, she finally pushed the tray towards me and tucked my hair behind my ear.
“You owe me big time, Ari.” She said and I nodded as she waved at me and disappeared down a turn.
Taking a deep breath, I wondered if I looked presentable as I headed towards Roma’s office.
The last time I had seen him, he had left the room so quickly, I had wondered whether there was a reason for it.
I remembered how his icy blue eyes had turned a shade darker as he stared at me before leaving abruptly and I wondered whether he could see right through me. To the truth that I had developed a crush on him.
I took a right turn, more excited that I was almost at Roma’s office when Salem stopped in front of me.
My smile faded and I cleared my throat.
“Where is this going to?” She asked
“To the Alpha’s office, miss.” I answered and the way her eyed brightened, it made my stomach tighten nervously.
“To the Alpha’s office, miss.” I answered and the way her eyed brightened, it made my stomach tighten nervously.
“Hand that tray over to me.” She ordered and my eyes widened in shock.
“But…”I tried to say but she rolled her eyes and looked at me, her rad hair in a pony tail that brought a face that I didn’t like right now for what she was doing.
“Get lost, human.”
My eyes stung as I turned around, feeling defeated for missing my chance to see Roma.
And as I returned towards the laundry room to continue the rest of my duties, I wiped my eyes and fought the urge to cry.
I didn’t even have the drawing so it was probably for the best that I could not see him in the office.
By the time I was done with the rest of my duties, it was almost evening and as I headed to my room, I remembered my appointment at the infirmary.
Visiting Scian put me in a good mood and I grinned when she looked so overjoyed at the drawing I had made.
By the time I was heading out of the infirmary, I knew what I had to do. I was going to visit Roma in his wing and give him my drawings.
It was probably not the best idea after what had happened the last time with me almost dying.
But I didn’t and even if Roma ended up not halting his attack on me again, I knew that the west wing was probably the most quiet place in the whole castle.
And the most dangerous.
Clutching the drawing of Roma to my chest, I wished myself luck and hoped nobody saw as I looked left and right before sneaking past the large doors that led to the West wring.
Taking a few steps forward, I inhaled and realized that maybe he wasn’t here.
Maybe I had missed him on his way out.
The air was so thick and tense and that was when I entered the bedroom in the wing, the nervousness I had heard in another room down the hallway.
Wondering what that noise was, I walked slowly towards it and found myself in front of another door where the screams had come from.
I took a deep breath, clutching Roma’s painting tight in my hand and opened the door.
I wished I hadn’t.
