Aria’s pov

I expected to be bundled up like a common thief and tossed in the trunk of Roma’s Rolls Royce.

Instead, the man offered his hand and helped me to my feet.

“Can you walk?” He asked, his voice gruff.

“Y- yes,” I whispered.

His eyes narrowed at me, as if he didn’t believe me.

He placed his expensive jacket over me, his classy scent washing over me. He smelled delectable, rich and sophisticated. I could inhale his scent for eternity and not get sick of it.

He led me to his car and even opened the door for me.

“Watch your head, pet,” he said as I slid into the car.

He settled down along with me and immediately whipped out his phone and started replying emails.

I stole glances at him, his beautiful profile marred only by a long scar slashed from the end of his left eyebrow to his left cheekbone. In my opinion, the scar was the only thing that gave an inclination that he was anything less than perfect.

“Haven’t you heard,” he said, “that it’s rude to star-“

I looked away immediately, my cheeks heating up at the fact that he caught me red-handed.

“I wasn’t staring.” I lied, cutting him off.

He looked at me, offended, a dangerous glint in his eyes. “The last person that cut me off like that lost his tongue. You do not want to be disrespectful to me, pet. I handle disrespect very badly.”

I swallowed and avoided his piercing gaze, fisting my trembling hands. “My name is Aria, not pet.”

“Aria,” he was smiling again. “I’m Roma.”

“What’s going to happen to me now?”

“Now,” he sighed, relaxing in his seat before turning a lazy, wicked gaze to look at me, “you’re mine to use as I wish. You belong to me for the next five years, Aria. Let’s see if I can replace any use for you.”

I didn’t like the sound of that. More and more, I was dreading ever making a deal with this man to save my father’s a*s.

“I- I’m not going to prostitute myself for you,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around myself. “I won’t make a living for you lying on my back.”

If he intended to traffic me, I’ll kill myself before I ever let myself be touched by any man.

His eyes flashed. “No one’s going to touch you,” he growled angrily, making me flinch. “No one’s going to touch you as long as I live.”

Somehow, I knew that I could take his words for it.

“Aria?” He said suddenly, his voice tight.

I looked at him.

He suddenly hissed loudly, clenching his fists. “You’re not in any position to make demands, Aria. You will work for me however I see fit. Do well to remember that.”

It was then I remembered that there were worse things than being trafficked. He could easily harvest my organs for all I care, or use me as his personal s*x slave like my father had wanted.

I needed to escape his clutches before it was too late.

I steeled my resolve and forced my tears back. There was no use crying. The sadistic man probably liked to see his victims cry.

We continued the rest of the ride in silence, all through the ride, I was plotting my escape.

Roma’s mansion was bigger than any building I had ever seen, smack dab in the middle of nowhere. His compound was much larger than my entire school campus, and somehow, I felt that the shiny, newly waxed floors were too clean to be walked on by me.

A maid immediately showed up as soon as we passed through the doors, bowing her head slightly.

“Master, you’re welcome. I’ll take the new guest to her room immediately.”

Wait. Guest?

I didn’t have time to think before the maid, that looked about my age, suddenly snatched my wrist and began dragging me up the stairs.

She was stronger than she looked because try as I may, I couldn’t shake my wrists out of her tight grasp until she reached a room on the second floor.

Procuring a key, she unlocked the door and pushed it open, leading it inside.

“This is going to be your new room,” she said excitedly, all traces of formality and demureness gone. She looked at me with an excited shine in her big brown eyes. “You’re the first human the alpha has ever invited over. Are you the one?”

I froze in confusion. “Alpha… Human… What do you mean? Aren’t you human? What do you mean by alpha?”

She jumped on her feet excitedly. “I mean you’re the first non werewolf to set foot in this house. The alpha hates humans you see? None of them can get past the borders without getting attacked by the ferals prowling the lands.”

That’s it. I’m dreaming, or this lady is nuts. Or both.

“Look… Uh… What’s your name again?”

“Sophia, it’s nice to meet you!” She beamed. “What’s yours?”

“Aria,” I smiled tightly. “Look, I’m very tired right now, I’d like to go to bed first. Hopefully, I can begin work in the morning?”

“Work?” She asked, confused.

“Goodnight, Sophia,” I yawned, reaching for my zip to take off my dress. “We can start this conversation again in the morning, ey?”

Hopefully, she will be more reasonable in the day. She’s probably running on red bull, overworking and sleep deprivation at the moment.

She brightened up as if it was a splendid suggestion. “You’re right. Sure. I’ll be happy to. Infact, I’ll wake you up myself.”

Yeah, not looking forward to that.

Roma’s pov:

“You were lenient with her and with her father. You’ve torn people apart just for talking back at you but she’s the daughter of a debtor and you let her off easy.” Raphael asked, perching on the edge of my desk, as I chained my hands and feet to my bed.

“Stating the obvious are we?”

“I’m just curious. What will the others say if they learn you brought a human into our midst?”

I went still.

Humans were responsible for the great c*****e that caused most of my people their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Humans were the reason I lost my mate a long time ago.

But Aria was my mate and nobody could know. At least not now. My enemies will use her to get to me.

We were a match made in hell. A pair doomed to fail. No human has ever survived getting marked by the weakest of werewolves… Talk more of a powerful alpha. I may kill her by mistake and lose my chance at breaking the curse.

And there was also the chance that someone may kill her before I do, giving that everyone here still holds a grudge against the humans.

My hands fisted into the duvet, anger and frustration, mixing into a lethal cocktail in my veins.

“Well,” he sighed, pushing himself off the desk. “Worry about that later. Right now, you need to work on yourself.”

“What for?”

He looked at me dryly, folding his arms, “You already hate humans for what they did to you in the past. You’ll have to put aside the grudge you have on her kind and be civil with her.”

“Don’t you think that I was patient enough with her today? I didn’t rip her tongue out for disrespecting me.”

He laughed. “That’s the bare minimum, Roma.”

I frowned. This was going to be harder than I thought.

“One more thing,” I called out, as he was about to walk out of the room.

“Hm?”

“Carlos can’t know about this. No one can.”

It was hard enough being considered too young to rule as alpha, but I had made a formidable name and title for myself both among the werewolves and among humans. I had a lot of enemies disguised as friends and families, and my half brother was one of them. He hadn’t given me any reason to mistrust him yet but my intuition couldn’t be wrong.

There was no telling what my enemies would do if they found out that I had found the one thing meant to be my salvation.

“Worry about keeping her safe,” Raphael said, “and leave the rest to me.”

I sighed and looked out the window. It was a full moon. The time of the month when my transformation was the most excruciating and painful. I shook my head and reached for the silver chains attached to metal bars all around my bed and began clamping the giant shackles around my wrists, chest, waist and ankles, hissing in pain as the silver burned into any bit of skin that was exposed to it.

This was my fate for the abomination that I had committed. For betraying my pack and murdering my own father.
