Sold To The Demon Alpha -
Chapter 53
Roma’s POV
I wasn’t expecting the feeling like I had been struck with an arrow to my chest when I entered Scian’s office and locked eyes with Aria.
It was the first time that I had actually been seeing her face to face after the incident with Salem. Not that I hadn’t stalked her immediately after it had happened.
But I didn’t know what to say to her whenever I wanted to walk up to her and speak.
Was I going to apologize for it?
I mean, I regretted all of the times I was with Salem. Salem was supposed to be the obstacle that I placed between myself and Aria and I knew that it didn’t make me a good person for doing any of that but I had never lied to Salem about what we were so it was never really going to last anyways.
But I couldn’t help the way my hands tightened into fists when her eyes met with mine in Scian’s office and she looked away immediately, like the sight of me was physically hurting her.
I was so used to Aria beaming whenever she saw me, her smile lighting up the room. To think that she couldn’t even do that now because of something foolish that I did that was still going to end either way made me frown.
“Are you going to keep standing there or are you going to come in and sit down?” Scian’s voice made me turn away from the door and I realized that I had been standing by the door since Aria stepped out of the office and I turned to look at her, forgetting why I had come here in the first place.
“Do you want to go after her?” Scian asked with her brows raised, her smile wide and empathetic and it made me shake my head, trying to salvage what was left of my pride.
“Stubborn man. Don’t be so stubborn that you lose something precious.” She added and I opened my mouth to lie that Aria meant nothing, like I had done several times but this time, the lie refused to leave my mouth and I settled for a growl.
Scian shrugged, unaffected by my temper tantrum and stood as she raised her eyebrows at me when I stops in front of the door.
“Dearest Alpha, will you kindly move your snarling a*s out of the way? I want to check on my patients.”
My lips kicked up in a smile as I moved out of the way for her and followed her out of the office to one of the rooms.
When I entered, Drey and his partner Carly were sitting on the bed, their hands intertwined as Drey whispered in his mate’s ear and I felt a pang of sadness hit me when she giggled and stared at her mate with affection, her eyes bright and expressive as she cupped his jaw and planted a k**s on his mouth.
“So, how are you lovebirds doing today?” Scian asked and the two of them finally looked at us, their bubble of love broken as they realized that I was in the room with Scian.
Carly stood immediately, still holding her mate’s hand and when Drey moved to stand up, I shook my head.
He was really lucky to have survived the attack that had happened on the night of the bonfire and I was sure the silver arrows were going to leave scars where they had been removed from his body.
My face hardened as I remembered how lifeless he had looked on that same bed, several days ago, covered in b***d and how his mate had nearly lost her mind as she waited with bated breath to hear the news of whether he was going to live or die.
The werewolf hunters had been silent since I had sent them one of their hunters, making an inscription on his forehead and cutting off his arm before informing him to pass a message to his leaders that any other attempt on the pack would mean war.
Since my father and his followers died, there had been no random disappearances and killing of humans and yet even with the peace treaty being one of the first things I had proposed to the faceless hunters when I became Alpha, all efforts to continue to live in peace had waned by the second.
And even though we hadn’t experienced an attack since I sent the message, I had an eerie feeling that it was far from over.
After we stepped out of Drey’s room, his mate crying tears of joy that he was free to go, Scian looked at me and the smile she was wearing disappeared and was replaced with worry.
“It is nothing short of a miracle that he survived, Roma. I thought that we were going to lose. Thank the goddess.” She said, her breath shaky before she turned to face me.
“What are we going to do about the attacks? How do we make them stop?”
Her questions remained at the back of my mind even when I went out to where Raphael was training with the other wolves.
They stopped at the sight of me and Raphael raised his brows when he saw my facial expression.
“Want to talk about it?” He asked even though he knew why I was in a mood.
“No.”
“Of course not.” He nodded with a smirk and removed his shirt.
“Want to fight it out?” He whispered as he patted my back and when I growled, he shrugged.
“She went out with one of Scian’s apprentices. A nice looking lad. I’m sure you know him. Scott? He was all smiles as he opened the door for her to get in…”
Before he could complete his statement, I punched him in the face and closed my eyes as I took a deep breath, making sure to not lose control and allow the Beast surface in the middle of the open field.
When I opened my eyes, Raphael was grinning and I realized what he was trying to do. We used to do it when we were little because of my nasty temperament and he would taunt me into a fight but by the time we were done, I wouldn’t feel so angry anymore.
Removing my shirt, I smirked when his smile widened and lunged for him. The fight was short but brutal and by the time we were done, we received a round of applause from the crowd that had formed to watch us fight.
Clapping my back as the crowd dispersed, Raphael whispered in my ear
“How do you feel now? Better.”
“Much. Thank you.”
The rage had simmered down and even though I still had a lot of worries concerning the pack and Aria, I was in control of the Beast.
But it turned out that I had spoken too soon because a car drove in to the parking lot created beside the open field where we trained and her scent reached me before she even came down from the car.
True to Raphael’s words, Scott came down and ran to the other side to bring her down from the car and she smiled brightly at him. However, her smile vanished when she looked at me.
