Sold To The Demon Alpha -
Chapter 57
Aria’s POV
I released a harsh breath as I looked around the forest in the middle of the night and saw that Salem was nowhere to be found.
“Miss?” I called out shakily and when I didn’t hear a sound decided that the worst had happened.
I had been abandoned.
I held the bag of herbs close as I tried to relax but I could feel the claws of anxiety tearing at my skin, holding on to my throat as I looked around and realised that I was lost.
The last time I was in the forest, I had nearly lost my life.
The nightmares had reduced but being here, all alone in the middle of the night made my mind run wild with horrifying thoughts.
I didn’t even have the slightest clue where I was or how I was going to get out of here and I felt my throat close up in panic as I tried to follow the path I had come from only to end up where I started again.
Why had Salem done this?
I wanted to believe that she had not left me here on purpose but what other explanation was there. She knew that I didn’t know my way around the woods and had almost torn my head off when I wanted to get someone to go with me.
Why had she offered to accompany me I only to leave me in the woods in the middle of the night?
Was it because of what I had seen that night between her and Roma?
My eyes glistened with tears as I looked up at the light of the moon and when I checked my cell phone again, I saw that it was out of service.
I was officially in serious trouble.
Maybe I could wait until someone realized that I was missing and come out to replace me. But was I even that important? I was nothing but a maid and considering where I currently stood with Roma, I doubted that anyone would be interested in organizing a search party to replace me.
I was sure that Sophia had gotten my message that I was going herb gathering for Salem and would not be back until after dark and I hoped that she would raise an alarm.
But what was I going to be doing until then?
Waiting in the middle of the woods alone?
“Is anybody out here?” I yelled and the only response I received were from the birds that were hanging on the branches of the trees.
“Please help me. If you can hear me, please. Send help.” I screamed at the top of my lungs and the first tear slipped down my face when I didn’t get any response.
It was just me in this dark place.
No one was coming to save me.
Just as I turned around to try and retrace my footsteps for the fifth time, I heard a growl and it made me stop in my tracks, my entire body shaking as I turned around slowly.
I opened my mouth to scream at the sight before me but my voice was lost as I watched three feral wolves dig ruthlessly into the dead body of a deer.
I took a quiet step backwards and stepped on a branch, breaking it and I gasped when they finally looked up at me.
So, not only had Salem taken me out to gather herbs, she had brought me into the forbidden forest? The part where the feral wolves, wolves that had lost their human sides roamed around, looking for prey?
“Oh my God.” I whimpered when they abandoned the dead deer and started to advance towards me and I continued to take slow steps back.
Because I wasn’t looking, I tripled over a branch and fell to the ground, the bag of herbs scattering and the screen of my phone breaking as I fell to the ground at the foot of a tree.
Tears trickled down my face as the three feral wolves made their way towards me and just as I was about to close my eyes and prepare for the worst, I heard a growl that shook the entire forest and made the ferals flinch, moving back away from me.
They turned around and from the shadows, the owner of that sound that had shaken the forest appeared in front of us.
The wolf had fur that was as dark as ebony all around and the beast had eyes that I would remember even in my sleep because I had dreamt of this creature almost all the time.
The air brushed through his fur, black as the night without moonlight, his ears pulled forward and lips tucked up. Four black paws stood firm to the earth’s soil and when he rose to his full height on all fours, he was taller than me by inches.
A black wolf with bright red eyes. It was the same wolf as that night.
The wolf that had ripped apart all of the other ferals and had disappeared by the time I woke up.
It stared at me for a long time and when I touched my forehead, I realized that it was bleeding from where I had fallen down while I was trying to escape the feral wolves.
The ferals mistook the beast’s momentary distraction as their time to strike and all at once, they tried to lunge for him.
But the Beast was larger and much stronger and I watched in horror as it tore the three feral wolves into bloody pieces, b***d covering the floor around him.
I shook in terror when those red eyes finally found me and closed my eyes as I felt the Beast take slow steps towards where I was sitting on the ground, tears streaming down my cheeks.
And then there was only silence and the rapid beating of my heart that filled my hearing. When I opened my eyes, I saw that the Beast laid in front of me on it’s stomach, red eyes staring at me quietly and I released a breath, wondering what was going on.
Why had it not hurt me back then and why was it not hurting me now?
Raphael appeared in the forest and when he saw the sight in front of him, he froze, jumping into a tree because the Beast turned to face him and growled.
I tried to stand up and Raphael shook his head from where he was up in the tree, looking down at me.
“Don’t run, Aria.”
“But…”
“You’re going to scare him if you run away from him. Stay.”
I looked at him like he was crazy.
How was I going to scare a creature that was two times bigger and had a whole lot more teeth than I did?
“So what do I do then? What do we do?”
He dropped a small bag on the ground and the Beast ran to the foot of the tree Raphael was in to sniff the bag before looking at me when I rose to my feet.
“We wait until he turns.” Raphael answered, looking down at the creature with empathy and it made me very curious because the Beast looked at him like he couldn’t wait for him to come down so that he could kill him.
“Turn into what?”
“Human, Aria. We wait for him to become human.”
