Sold To The Demon Alpha -
Chapter 70
Aria’s POV
You have between now and tomorrow night to make your decision.
The words continued to float over my head and I didn’t realize that the glass I was pouring was overflowing with water until there was water everywhere on the ground in the kitchen and when the others started to rush up and down to clean up the mess that I had made, Sophia pulled me away from the scene and raised her eyebrows at me.
“What is going on? And don’t say it’s nothing.”
Just as I was about to answer, Scott entered the kitchen and some of the servants whispered about him, their smiles adorable as they did not hide that they were fawning over him.
But his eyes didn’t linger on any of them. No, his eyes searched the kitchen until they landed on me and even though his smile widened, I felt a strong unease in my stomach when I remembered Roma’s words last night.
‘And I won’t be anything like Scott. I won’t be a prince charming either. So you need to be sure about what you are asking from me.’
“Hey” Scott said when he reached where I was standing with Sophia and my friend looked at the two of us.
“Okay, I’ll just…” Before she could finish speaking, I grabbed her hand and squeezed, my eyes going back to Scott’s.
“Hey. What brings you here?”
“Oh, Scian and the healers are having a meeting with the Alpha and Beta concerning matters uprising in the pack. and they wanted me to make sure that the kitchen organizes snacks for them. Let’s say that I would not mind if you were the one that helped us bring the snacks?”
I opened my mouth to decline immediately, worried that I would not be able to stomach being in the same room with Roma and a lot of other people without combusting into flames. Plus if it was a small meeting with the healers, Scott was going to be there and this was going to be more than awkward. It was going to be a complete disaster for me.
The problem was that Sophia beat me to it.
“Of course, she’d love to and I will come with her just to make sure that everything gets there in time.” She said, completely oblivious to the triangle that I had unintentionally placed myself in.
Scott smiled and he looked so handsome, I wondered if I was broken somewhere to be wanting someone with a beauty that could cut through ice, a love that was savagely beautiful and filled with darkness.
I realized sadly that the butterflies in my stomach never ever seemed to give me a sign when Scott was around. But it blared up like a f*****g siren whenever Roma was nearby.
Rushing out my words when I saw that was Scott was waiting for a verbal confirmation, I drew in a deep breath as I pinched Sophia whose hand I was now squeezing like we were jointed together at the h*p.
She looked at me with brows raised
“What? You didn’t want to serve them did you?” She answered, realizing how she had added to my predicament and when I shook my head, she squeezed my hands.
“You don’t have to go, you know that right?”
I nodded, but I also knew that the last thing Roma would want from me is to start hiding from him when I did nothing wrong. When we did nothing wrong.
I was not a child and I knew that the best place to begin to prove that to Roma was at this lunch. We were both adults and if I could not even behave properly now, what would happen if I then decided to take Roma up on his offer.
When we entered the dining hall, I fought to keep my face and my body stiff as all eyes focused on me and Sophia.
Sparing everyone else at the table a brief glance, I froze when my eyes collided with Roma’s and I didn’t realize that I wasn’t looking where I was going.
Stepping on my slippers, I tripped and would have fallen flat on my face but Roma had been quicker than everyone else and I felt deja vu hit me as he grabbed my shoulders and steadied me on the ground, his eyes wide with unhidden concern that made me blush.
“Are you alright?” He whispered and when I nodded, my body reacting to his touch, his eyes widened and he stared at me until Raphael cleared his throat, breaking the spell.
Returning to his seat, I glanced at Scott and saw the way his eyes widened as he looked between me and Roma and when his eyes settled on me, I looked away almost immediately, turning around and making my way out of the hall with Sophia by my side.
Sophia must have that I was not ready to speak because we both walked back together to the kitchen in silence and I spent the remainder of the day staring at the clock and knowing that my decision had already been made right from the moment I found out that Roma wanted me too.
But I needed to make things right with Scott before I told Roma what I had chosen. He deserved that.
So, I was surprised when I brought out my phone, about to text him and saw a message to meet him at the garden after dinner.
When I arrived, he was already there, sitting on a bench as he looked up at the moon and his body froze when he sensed my entry into the garden but he didn’t turn around.
Walking up to sit next to him, we both basked in the uncomfortable silence before he finally spoke.
“I won’t ask you how you feel about him because a part of me already knew. It was the way you always waited for him to visit you in the infirmary all the times you were injured and how you watched him when you thought no one was looking. I guess I hoped that he didn’t care about you. I guess I hoped that sooner or later, you would start liking me too.”
“Scott, I…” I trailed off, my eyes wide with surprise but he shook his head when he looked at me, a small smile on his face.
“You don’t need to explain anything to me.”
“But I do” I answered, finally replaceing my voice.
“I didn’t try to use you or mean you any ill will. I need you to know that.”
He nodded and took my hand.
“But you can’t love me. Not the way you love him. I understand that now. And I’m just glad that I got to know and love somebody like you. Because I love you.”
I froze in place when he leaned forward and gave me a k**s on my cheek.
“Goodbye, Aria and see you around.” He said, leaving me in the garden and walking away.
And I didn’t realize that there had been a burden on my shoulder until tonight, when it was lifted.
Now, there was only one more thing left to do. And an answer to give.
