Aria’s POV

It had been two days since I returned back home. Forty eight hours that I had spent a large majority of crying because I missed Roma so much, it felt like I was losing a limb.

I guessed that was what happened when you fell hard. And I had fallen hard for Roma Ruggiero.

I knew that he sent people to watch over me and even though the sentinel had kept her distance, I recognized her when I went to the mall just after Raphael had dropped me off in front of my house, his face grim and looking like he wanted to say a lot more than what he had been saying.

It made me wonder what he wanted to tell me, because he was never the reticent one. It was his Alpha that didn’t mind not speaking at all if he didn’t have to. Maybe that was why it tore me apart that he had just downloaded a whole a*s speech that I didn’t even know he had in him to break up with me.

Because that was what I called it.

He had broken up with me. And I had gone with it as well.

Since I had come home, however, my father was nowhere to be found. I’d checked everywhere, called and left messages but it was as if he didn’t want to be found.

Not worrying about it because that was how he usually was and enjoying the peace in the house while it lasted because I had not seen him since he slapped me in this living room and nearly beat those that tried to help.

I had quickly informed Nicole that I was back in town and probably for good and she had called me via video, wanting to tell me everything that I had missed, but when she said something about Daniel,

I paused, especially because she looked really worried this time.

“I know that I said that I didn’t mind what Daniel was saying but look at you. Your face has not been right since you came back to us. What really happened?”

I wished more than anything that I could tell her about it. About werewolves and mates and dings.

About Roma.

But as I ended the call, promising to contact her again with the air of my secrets hanging between us, I wondered if she would even believe me if I believed her.

I was about to make dinner in the kitchen when my father suddenly burst in, reeking of alcohol and his eyes landed on me.

“I just searched your room immediately I heard about your return. Surely that man gave you money right?” By that man, he meant Cassius.

“What are you talking about?” I said in confusion and he backhanded me so hard, I fell to the ground, shaking in fear.

Dragging me to the living room, he started to hit me and just as he removed his belt, some group of men burst into our house.

“We are here to collect our debt” one of them said stepping forward as my father started to shake in fear and when he pushed me forward on the ground to them, everything inside me died.

I realized that my father was truly gone. This was just a shadow of him left. A husk and when he looked at me, it was with disgust as he pushed me forward to them.

“You can have her. She’s the only valuable thing in this house anyways”

Roma’s POV

As I parked in front of Aria’s house, I told myself that I was not going to go in. I was here to relieve Tamara of her watch duties. That was the excuse I had given myself that made me have the mind to come out here to sit in the car outside her house like a fool.

Because that was what I was.

I’d run away from what was happening between us because of the tragedy that had almost befallen us and even though it had not happened, I had been too cowardly to watch her wither away in front of me.

I could not bear to look at her and see the sadness in her eyes.

That was why I had let her go.

But if I was truly letting her go, why was I here?

It was because I didn’t know if I was going to be able to live without her.

It was because I couldn’t imagine life without her.

It was because a part of me wanted to beg her to come back.

As I was about to step down from the car and head in, with a flimsy excuse of me being in town and wanting to say hi, a car drove to park in front of the house and three men dressed in black stepped out of the car and walked into the house.

My b***d chilled as I wondered what they were up to and if they were acquaintances of her deadbeat father.

The last thing I was expecting to see when I walked into the house was my mate struggling against the three men as they tried to carry her out of the house, her father watching from the sidelines.

Before I could stop myself, fury enveloped me and one minute, she was in their arms, the next she was on the ground because I made quick work of disposing of the men.

And then because I was too angry and tired of her father being the number one problem in her life, I went after him.

“Please, no” the man begged as I lifted him up by his neck, my eyes glowing red with fury even though I could hear Aria’s pleas.

I knew that I could not let this man live any longer.

“Please don’t kill him” She cried and the man tried to say the same but I had gotten to a point of no return

Snapping his neck, I threw his dead body to the ground, finally retaining my senses when Aria rushed towards his dead body and sobbed.

Trying to reach her was a mistake because she turned around and screamed at me.

“You destroy everything you touch” she yelled and even though I knew that she was only hurting, those words hit home.

“Aria” I started but she gestured towards the door.

“Please don’t ever come back” she added and it made all of the hope that I had felt as I drove to the front of her house vanish.

She looked like she was truly done with me and perhaps maybe it was what I deserved. I’d killed her father like I killed mine and deserved everything that was coming for me.

Covered in b***d, I nodded and walked out of the house, dialing Raphael’s number so that he could call the cleaning up team.

But just as I was about to speak, Raphael spoke first, his voice filled with panic.

“Carlos has escaped, Roma. He’s gone.”

Dread filled my lungs like smoke and I could feel that something terrible was coming. Something that would wreak enough havoc that would not spare anyone in it’s wake.

And all of it would be my fault.
