Sophia’s Revenge – Chapter 71

Xander’s POV

Sophia wasn’t doing very well. She has been in bed for three days. I go up and check on her every few hours. I have been sleeping on the couch. Her sobs in her sleep just break my heart. My mom said the best thing to do was to give her space and just let her be and when she was ready, she would come to me. My mom must know her s**t because at dinner time on day three I heard a light knock on my office door and Sophia walked into the room. You could tell that she was still crying. Her eyes were still red, and her face was still swollen. My heart just broke looking at her. I lost my best friend, but she lost her mate. Part of her.

I had Konner and Ashley in my office. Kanes brother and his mate. He was a year younger than Kane, but we all grew up really close. Their dad was my dad’s Beta. That was the hardest phone call I ever had to make, but he was Kanes’ only family member and I knew how heartbroken he would be.

I introduced them and then just held Sophia for a while. I noticed that she still had Kanes mark on her.

“Beautiful, you still have Kanes mark on your neck, does Stella know how it’s there?” I asked her.

“No, but why wouldn’t I? He was my mate and gave it to me.”

“That’s not how it works. You mark will disappear if you lose your mate.”

Nobody said anything after that and it was dinnertime, so I suggested that we all go eat. I led her down to dinner and watched as her and Lucy had the most adorable conversation ever. Lucy asked her to be her mommy and both Jax and I soared with happiness. We were going to be a family. Slightly broken with a missing piece but a family, nonetheless. We finished eating and I took Sophia up to Kane’s old room to meet Konner and Ashley. They were already there and had the door open.

“Hey guys, would you like some help?” I asked.

“Ya I was going to pack some stuff up and clean up some.” Konner said.

“You don’t have to do that. I can have some omega’s take care of that.” I told her.

“Alpha Xander,”

“Do not call me that. You are like my brother. It is just Xander.”

“OK, Xander, Ashley and I would like to move here. We want to rejoin your pack?”

“Can you tell me what prompted?”

“Well, we moved to Ashley’s pack because she was all her mom had after her dad died and her mom died about six months ago. It’s something that we have been talking about and with my brother’s death, it is my duty to step in as Beta. That is if you would have me?”

I walked up to Konner and hugged him. Hearing that he wanted to come back and be the Beta was also amazing. For our pack it was a birth right. It has been handed down like the Alpha title and also the gamma title. I didn’t know what I was going to do with Kane gone. There was nobody that I trusted more, but Konner was a close second. He was like a brother to me. The three of us grew up thick as thieves.

I stepped back with tears in my eyes. “Yes man, I am so glad you asked because I honestly didn’t know what I was going to do. I mean, it would have gone to Luke, but it is yours from birth right and also you were made to do it just like your brother.”

“I will make sure that everything is prepared for you.”

“Now, where did Kane put all of the family pictures? Ashley was going to put together a memorial for him for his funeral.”

“You won’t replace them,” Sophia said as she took off out of the room. I quickly followed her, and she went straight to Avery’s room. She was banging on the door. Avery opened the door looking a little flustered.

“Sorry, I just need my scrapbook.”

Avery just went and grabbed and shoved it in Sophia’s hands and slammed the door. I don’t want to know what is going on behind that door.

I walked over to Sophia to see that she had tears in her eyes.

“Beautiful, what is this?”

“I wanted to do something for Kane after he surprised me with my dress. Your mom suggested this as she knew it was something he wanted but never found the time. I finished it up on Friday and planned on giving it to him on Saturday after the ceremony.” She said as she started to cry.

“This is beautiful, and he would have loved it so much. Let’s go show Konner and Ashley.”

We walked back to his room and showed them. They both had tears by the time we were done looking at it. There were a few extra pages added to the back of the book. There were pictures of all three of us from our ceremony. Someone had captured every important moment for us, and they added it in. It was the nicest thing ever. I am now crying.

I walked over to Sophia, who was full out sobbing by now and wrapped her in my arms and just held her close. I excused us and took her up to our room. I took her to the bathroom and started to run a hot bath. Maybe a relaxing bath will help her calm down. I removed all of her clothes and then mine. I stepped in and pulled her in with me. She didn’t say a word, she just sat down in front of me. Tomorrow was going to be a hard day for both of us. I am hoping that when this is done, we can replace a new sense of normalness. I started to rub her shoulders and worked my way down her back. She was giving appreciative m***s and they were going directly to my d**k. “Not here. I can’t in this bed yet. Can we go to the other room for now?”

I just grabbed her hand and took her to the other bedroom. It was set up as a guest room. I shut the door behind us and started to k**s. I pushed her down on the bed and crawled up her body.
