Super Mommy and Her Triplets -
Chapter 168
Chapter 168
The surgery lasted for fifteen hours, which far exceeded Bailey's expectations.
The Luther family, the Chivers family, all the reporters, as well as the crowd outside, were anxious.
The operation started at eight in the morning, and it still was not over by eleven at night. Nothing washeard from the mansion. People began to wonder if the operation had failed and if the Chivers familywas detaining Bailey.
“What's going on? It's been fifteen hours, so why is there still no news?”
“My guess is that the operation failed, and all the doctors inside are trying to save Old Mr. Chivers' life.”
“In that case, Bailey's reappearance as Anonymous will be a joke.”
“I mean, it's not like she has the ability to resurrect the dead. We were the ones who overestimated herabilities.”
“In the future, Bailey may not be able to maintain international relevance as Anonymous if the operationfails. It's difficult to ascend to greatness, but easy to fall from grace.”
“I don't think we should stay here any longer. The operation has probably failed. Let's go back and writeour drafts. I think the title will be 'Anonymous Fails! Old Mr. Chivers Died On The Operating Table!'That'll definitely be the hottest news tomorrow.”
“I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I'll be disappointing you all.” The cold voice of a woman coming from themansion instantly drew everyone's attention.
Everyone turned toward the entrance in surprise to see Bailey walking out of the building under themoonlight.
“It's Bailey.”
“Yeah, it's her! She's out!”
In an instant, it was as though all the tired reporters were revitalized as they rushed toward theentrance.
Since there was a metal fence between her and them, they could only stuff the microphone in theirhands through the gaps.
“Ms. Jefferson. No, Ms. Anonymous, was Old Mr. Chivers' operation successful?”
“Yeah! The operation lasted for far longer than three hours. We were all anxious the whole waythrough. Ms. Anonymous, did Old Mr. Chivers survive?”
Bailey tried to smile casually, but it was not enough to hide her exhaustion at all.
It was a fifteen-hour long dangerous and complex operation. Additionally, lots of unexpected thingsoccurred during the process. It almost wore her out completely, so much so that she probably neededhalf a month to recover.
“I think it's better if Mr. Edmund answers everyone's question. He's much more convincing with his
words.”
When she finished, she turned to Edmund and smiled weakly at him.
He could feel his heart clenching twice as his breathing paused for a moment.
Bailey was like a sick beauty in the dark night, given how pale and sickly she looked. She appeared tobe so weak that he had a strong desire to pull her into his embrace and give her a good hug.
“Thanks to Ms. Anonymous, my grandpa survived. No need to worry, everyone. The operation toremove the tumor in my grandpa's brain was very successful,” Edmund declared.
The silence that followed lasted for more than ten seconds before a loud cheering sound was heardoutside of the mansion.
In the next second, the reporters rapidly fired all the questions they had in mind toward Bailey likemachine guns.
Edmund whispered next to her ear, “I forgot to mention something, Bay. I don't know what happened toMax, but he suddenly started foaming at his mouth and convulsing. He was already sent to theemergency room to be saved.”
“What?” The volume of her voice was raised. When she returned to her senses, she turned around andhurriedly approached the infirmary. “Why didn't you tell me about this when it happened? This is aserious matter! A child's immune system isn't as strong as an adult's. He can't afford a delay intreatment!”
He sighed. “The people and reporters outside need comforting as well. Otherwise, they may come upwith nasty headlines to destroy your reputation.”
Her pace increased as she muttered, “My reputation isn't comparable to a child's life.”
Meanwhile, the Luther family was gathered outside of the emergency room.
Bailey promptly stepped forward and pulled Artemis' arm. “What's Max's situation right now? Have theyfound out why he was foaming at his mouth and convulsing?”
Without hesitation, Felicity flung Bailey's hand away and pulled her son a few steps back. She grittedher teeth as she spoke. “Leave far away from my son. Don't try to use your seduction techniques onhim.”
Ignoring the older woman, Bailey stared at Artemis. His handsome face darkened with fury, whichcaused her heart to skip a beat when she saw it. Old Mr. Chivers was given a drug that rapidlydeteriorated his nervous system. Was Maxton given the same poison as well? Foams at the mouth andconvulsion are clear signs that the brain isn't getting enough oxygen, meaning something's wrongthere.
“I need to go in and take a look. He may be in a severe condition.” Upon finishing her sentence, sheheaded toward the emergency room entrance.
However, just as she took two steps forward, she was grabbed by someone. Turning her head around, she realized it was Felicity.
With a resigned voice, she said, “Can't we just call it a truce for now, Mrs. Luther? If you really want to
pick a fight with me, wait until Max's condition is stabilized first. After that, I'm willing to battle it out withyou for however long you want.”
“Stop exaggerating! My grandson is doing fine. I don't need your fake compassion or crocodile tears, and I certainly don't believe he won't be fine without you around,” Felicity barked.
“Hah.” Bailey smiled mockingly. “Do you know why it took me fifteen hours to complete the operation?”
That stunned the older woman for a moment before she narrowed her eyes. “What are you trying tosay?”
A smile appeared on Bailey's face as the look in her eyes grew colder. “Old Mr. Chivers was poisonedby a type of drug that rapidly deteriorates a person's nervous system. The operation was originallygoing to fail, but I endured and made it work. You should be lucky I'm the one at the operating tabletoday. In fact, if you'll forgive me for being arrogant for a moment, Old Mr. Chivers would've died on theoperating table if anyone else but me was operating on him.”
Rage was still present on Felicity's face. Clearly, she did not understand what the younger woman wastrying to say.
While she was slow at picking up hints, it did not mean Artemis was similarly dumb.
As soon as Bailey uttered her last word, Artemis asked, “So you're saying Max was also poisoned? That's why he's experiencing the same condition as Old Mr. Chivers?”
“That's right.” She went straight to the point. “The longer his treatment is delayed, the more danger he'llbe in. Mr. Luther, are you sure you want to waste precious time arguing with me like your mother?”
In the blink of an eye, he pulled his mother's hand away from Bailey's arm and pleaded, “Please savemy son.”
With that, Bailey entered the emergency room without turning back.
It was not until Felicity heard the sound of the doors closing that she returned to her senses.
She stepped backward until she arrived at the wall. In a trembling voice, she asked, “I-Is what she saidtrue? Someone poisoned Max? Someone wants to kill him?”
Artemis glanced at her. “He was foaming at his mouth and convulsing,” he replied flatly. “If his conditionis a little more severe, he might die, and no treatment will be able to save him.”
Felicity's legs turned into jelly as she collapsed to the ground.
