Chapter 236

After the person repeated what was said, Bailey observed how Artemis' face became even gloomier, and she could not help but feel curious.

For that b*stard to reveal such an expression, something major must have happened.

“All right. I'll head there right away.”

After Artemis ended the call, she raised her eyebrow and asked, “Did Rhonda create more troubleagain?”

Rolling his eyes at her, Artemis replied firmly, “Rhonda had a miscarriage. The preliminary diagnosis isthat she accidentally took some abortifacient.”

What?

Bailey was shocked for a while. When she returned to her senses, she widened her eyes andexclaimed, “What did you say? Rhonda took some abortifacient? How is that possible? She's relying onher baby to become the future matriarch of the Luther family. How could she possibly ruin her ownfuture?”

As Artemis narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint appeared in them for a moment. “That meanssomeone gave her the abortifacient,” he concluded nonchalantly. “In more straightforward terms, sheblocked someone's path, which caused that person to develop a grudge against her.”

Bailey fell silent at that. After a long while, she asked, “Could the culprit be from the branch family ofthe Luthers? Now that there are more children added to the direct line of descent, the main family can

grow its monopoly. If the branch family eliminated Rhonda's child, it would be equivalent to diminishingthe main family's power. In turn, they'll get a greater share of power.”

“It's hard to tell,” replied Artemis solemnly. “It's possible that the father of her illegitimate child did it. Heprobably noticed that something was wrong and wanted to avoid future complications. After all, if I replaceout who he is, I'll never let him off the hook easily.”

Bailey stood up from the couch. “Let's go. I'll follow you to visit the Luther family. Perhaps I can pick upa clue from the abortifacient.”

“Okay.”

At the Luther residence, the bedroom was filled with wails.

From a distance away, one could already hear Felicity screaming at the top of her lungs. “Dear Lord, how has the Luther family sinned? Why did these tragedies happen to our grandsons one after theother? Are you deliberately torturing my grandsons because you can't bear to see the Luther familyprosper?”

Rhonda's sorrowful cries ensued.

In the meantime, Bailey suddenly halted in her tracks.

If she barged in directly, Rhonda, that crazy woman, would definitely cling to her and accuse her ofeverything.

Although she did not mind it, it did not mean that she would be eager to put herself in such a horribleposition and get scolded by someone else.

“I don't think I'll enter. Tell the person in charge of the infirmary to let me have a look at Rhonda'smedical report. Get him to show me the food that contained the abortifacient, too.”

Artemis glanced at the butler, ordering, “Follow her instructions.”

“Understood.”

With that, Bailey turned around and went downstairs.

Artemis watched her leave before entering Rhonda's bedroom.

When the two women at the bed saw him enter, they became even more emotional.

Felicity staggered over and buried herself in Artemis' arms.

Although he frowned, he still hugged her back. No matter what, she was still his biological mother.

“Artemis, how has the Luther family sinned? Why are the heavens treating my grandsons like this? Ithappened to Max, and now, Ronni's child has also...”

The moment she finished speaking, Rhonda tried to rush out of the bed and jump into Artemis' arms.

When Artemis saw that, he uttered calmly, “Stay on the bed and don't move. Rest well. There are onlya few days before the wedding. If you can't recover in time, how can the wedding continue?”

Rhonda's wails stopped abruptly.

Looking at him in surprise, she asked hoarsely, “A-Artemis? Now that my child's gone, t-the wedding isstill continuing as planned?”

Artemis did not answer her directly. Instead, he glanced at the maids at the side, pointed at Rhonda, and asked, “Who is she?”

The maids exchanged glances with each other, not daring to respond first.

After a while, one of the maids could not bear the pressure anymore and replied timidly, “M-Mr. Luther, she's Mrs. Luther.”

Artemis suddenly laughed before responding in a relaxed tone, “Get twice the amount of your salaryfrom the butler later. Your salary will be doubled from now on.”

The maid was stunned for a while before a look of joy appeared on her face.

When the others saw the perks that she received, they quickly addressed Rhonda as “Mrs. Luther.”

Smiling, Artemis looked at Rhonda and asked with a raised eyebrow, “Did you see that? Now that theentire world knows that you're Mrs. Luther, how can we possibly cancel the wedding? Just lie on thebed. Don't worry too much, and rest well. After that, you'll become the world's happiest and mostbeautiful bride in your best state.”

Felicity left Artemis' embrace and walked to the bed. Holding Rhonda's hand, she stated hoarsely, “Be

a good girl and rest well. After the wedding, both of you still can have a child. Don't be too sad, andstop overthinking.”

Rhonda was elated.

Even though I had a miscarriage, Artemis is still willing to marry me. Does it mean Artemis has finallynoticed my sacrifices for him and has decided to spend the rest of his life with me? In that case, I'mglad that the b*stard in my womb is gone. After marrying him, I have plenty of chances to becomepregnant with his child and give birth to a true heir for the Luther family.

“Okay. I'll listen to you. I'll recover well and prepare to become a good bride.”

In the infirmary, as Bailey reviewed the report on the medicine's remnants and Rhonda's medicalreport, she fell into deep thought.

“How is it? Did you notice anything?”

Artemis' voice rang out beside her ear, jolting her back to her senses.

Passing one of the report sheets to him, she explained calmly, “These are the remains of the medicine. After I did a test, it's confirmed that it contains an abortifacient. Furthermore, the abortifacient isextremely strong and has very harmful effects on the womb. Rhonda probably can't become a motherin the future. The culprit is very ruthless.”

Artemis grabbed the report and scanned it.

I don't understand anything.

“I'll instruct someone to investigate which pharmacies the medicine is sold at. Let's see if we can replaceany clues.”

Shaking her head, Bailey sighed. “Medicines like these are prohibited in the country. The culpritprobably got their hands on it from overseas. If we were to track it, it'll be like looking for a needle in ahaystack.”

Artemis fell silent.

Bailey patted his shoulder and reassured him with a smile, “That baby wasn't your child, anyway, so themiscarriage doesn't really matter. This is Rhonda's karma for all the evil deeds she has done. To behonest, even if I didn't do anything, she'd still have dug her own grave.”

Soon, news of Rhonda's miscarriage spread, and everyone knew about it in no time.

Naturally, barely anyone in the public felt pity for her. Instead, they were gloating over it.

After all, why should all the good things just happen to Rhonda? As a daughter from a middle-classfamily, she was not worthy enough to become the matriarch of the Luther family. Now that it was almostthe wedding, she deserved to have that sudden miscarriage.

A loud thud rang out in the study room at the Shurmer residence.

Zeke threw the papers in his hands on the table and glared at Zoey coldly. He then bellowed, “Explainto me what happened!”
