Chapter 503

Lionel helped Victoria to the couch before he grabbed the file and went over to Victor.

“Victor, all the shares and assets of the Saunders family are yours now. Victoria won't get anything, soyou are now the sole inheritor. Victor, I hope you can manage the business effectively. After all, it's alegacy that has been built and sustained for generations within your family,” he said solemnly.

Victor snatched the file from him and mocked, “I don't need your reminder. Why would I trust you whenyou said Victoria didn't take anything? I don't know how many assets the Saunders family has. What ifshe takes a slice for herself?”

Victoria leaped up from the couch and hurried over to Victor. She protested in agony, “Victor, how couldyou say that? it is undeniable that Lionel has worked hard to operate our family business andsuccessfully increased its profit by a few percent. As a result, the business is now worth more thanwhen Dad entrusted it to him. If you need proof, you can check the records at the notary office.”

Victor disregarded Victoria's words and cast his gaze upon the impressive figures in the document. Asatisfied expression could be seen on his face.

“I don't mind you taking a slice. You can treat it as dowry from me,” he joked.

“You!” Victoria was about to lash out at him, but Lionel stopped her from doing so.

“Now that the assets and shares have all been transferred to you, shouldn't you fulfill your filial dutiesby heading to the funeral home?”

Victor flashed a shameless smile. “I'm pleased with how you fulfilled my first condition. Now time to talkabout my second condition. When will you complete the procedures so I can be released from jail?”

“Victor, don't push your luck!” Victoria snarled angrily.

He is using Dad's funeral to threaten Lionel and me. Dad must be heartbroken to see his actions.

Victor merely snorted icily. “If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have ended up in jail. I'm kind enough not toask him to grovel at my feet. I'm his brother-in-law, so he'll have to do everything I say.”

“Hey—”

“All right, Vicky. That's enough,” Lionel interjected.

He then told Victor, “Attend the funeral first. I'll make the arrangements for everything. Don't worry, forI'm a man of integrity. I've given you my word that I'll arrange for you to be released, and I won't goback on my word.”

Victor sneered and left the study with the property transfer agreement.

Victoria watched as he marched away without a backward glance while tears blurred her vision. Shefelt her legs give out beneath her as she crumpled to the ground.

Lionel hurriedly reached out to support her and pulled her into his arms.

“Be careful. Don't fall and hurt yourself,” he reminded her.

Victoria bawled in the man's arms. “He was in jail for a few months, but instead of repenting, he greweven more hostile. If he gains control of the Saunders family business, he'll ruin everything in less thansix months.”

Lionel put on a bitter smile and shook his head. “Let's not worry about the future and concentrate oncompleting your father's funeral. Victor is the rightful heir to the Saunders family, so it is only right forhim to inherit the assets. It's up to him how he chooses to handle the assets he inherits.”

At the end of the hallway of a café, two men stood side by side on the balcony.

Artemis glanced at the bustling street not far away and let out a sigh. “I can't believe you're now mybrother-in-law. Life can sometimes be surreal, huh?”

Zeke let out a chuckle and shook his head. “Who would have thought you would become my brother-in-law as well? So, why do you want to talk to me?”

Artemis turned to the private room that Bailey was in and said, “She refuses to reunite with theShurmer family and forbids you to tell your parents about her real identity, right?”

Zeke grunted in acknowledgment. “Bay has a strong will and a compassionate heart. Despite her aloofdemeanor, she is genuine, willing to compromise, and empathetic. She doesn't bear a grudge againstus for leaving her behind. I'm grateful that she is understanding and has such a kind heart.”

Artemis narrowed his gaze. “Are you saying you went along with her and agreed not to let her return tothe Shurmer family? Zeke, you should know people are spreading malicious rumors about her. Ideliberately allowed you to learn of her identity so you can make amends by restoring her reputation. I

don't mind her past, but rumors can be deadly. Plus, she's pregnant. Most importantly...”

Suddenly, he trailed off and hesitated for a moment. In the end, he chose to reveal to Zeke how Baileysuffered from prenatal depression during her first pregnancy.

Surprise flashed across Zeke's eyes. “Was it that serious?”

“It was a close call. She almost lost the baby, but thankfully she pulled through. I don't want her to beburdened by external pressure. If possible, I hope the Shurmer family can make a publicannouncement declaring her as their legitimate daughter as she isn't a b*stard.”

“It will happen.” Zeke turned to look at him and assured, “Don't worry. I'll make sure she returns to theShurmer family as soon as possible.”

That evening, in the laboratory of the medical base, Justin and Bailey exchanged glances whilestanding in front of the monitor.

Bailey staggered backward. Her voice was trembling as she asked, “H-How is this possible?”
