At that, a glint flashed across Micah's eyes, which slowly regained focus.

He turned his head to look at Shannon before stiffly lifting the corners of his lips. “I owe you an arm,and now I'm returning it to you, so why won't you accept it? Shanny, do you really want to cut ties withme?”

Shannon scoffed coldly and retorted, “You think you can repay everything you owe me just by severingyour arm? We're not children anymore, Micah. Don't be so naïve.”

Micah lowered his gaze and glanced at his bandaged right arm. A faint smile could be seen forming onhis pale lips.

“Even if I can't repay you what I owe, it still feels good to know that you at least have an ounce ofsympathy for me. This proves that you're not as merciless as you seem to me. As long as you still havehope for me, I'll be able to muster enough courage to continue living the rest of my life.”

Shannon violently shook his hand off, exerting so much strength that she affected his injury. Theintense pain that assailed him made Micah tremble, and beads of sweat could be seen forming on hisforehead.

Shannon subconsciously stole a glance at his arm and saw that the white bandage was tainted red. Hiswound must have been torn apart.

“Stay still. I'll get the doctor to help you with your wound. You better listen to me. Stop threatening mewith your arm. Anything you do is useless before you gain revenge for our son.”

A faint half smile emerged on Micah's face.

Does that mean she'll consider forgiving me after I gain revenge for our child?

Micah hoped that he and Shannon could stay alive rather than dying together.

The concept of reuniting with her in the next life was too much of an illusion, and he dared not hope forthat. To him, being able to hold on to her in this life was good enough.

After avenging his son, he would then quit Tarragon and travel the world with Shannon. They wouldlead a quiet and peaceful life from then on.

He still had his whole life ahead of him, so he was confident that one day, he would be able to soothethe pain in her heart and make her accept him again.

Of course, it didn't matter even if Shannon refused to accept him. He was willing to stay by her sideand protect her until the end of his life.

At the Shelbert Condominium, Bailey got up and headed toward the door as the doorbell was ringing.

“I'm her husband, so it's only right that I came to bring her back to the Gezmond residence. She has noreason to stay at your house mostly because it's inconvenient, for Mr. Luther is staying here as well.”

Words eluded Bailey when he mentioned the word “husband.”

That's true. This man is Vicky's husband, so what right do I have to stop him from bringing his wifeaway? Furthermore, what he said wasn't wrong. Artemis lives here as well, so it wouldn't be convenientfor Vicky to stay the night.

“Bay, it's okay. I'll follow him home.”

Victoria's voice came from behind, and Bailey instinctively turned to look at her. “It's fine. I'll tell Artemisto move back to the Luther residence for the time being. You can stay here. It's no big deal.”

Victoria merely smiled and shook her head. “That won't do. I would be committing a huge sin if thatwere to happen. You're now pregnant, and Mr. Luther is so worried about you that he's practicallysticking to you like glue. How could I separate you both?”

“Vicky...”

“Bay, I know what you want to say, but I'm going to be a mother soon, too. They all say women arestrong when they become mothers. Bailey told him about Caridee following Veikko to Gregan when he got home.

“I'm sorry that I failed to keep an eye on your sister and allowed her to go with Veikko. How about yousend someone to bring her back? Veikko is there to handle matters regarding the underworld, and it'sgoing to be dangerous—”

Before she could finish her sentence, Artemis waved his hand and cut her off. “That's okay. It's good forher to go out and witness the cruelty of the real world. The Luther family has been protecting her all thiswhile, and she's still so innocent and unworldly even though she's already eighteen. How could shestand on her own two feet in this cruel world if she doesn't grow up? She will become the matriarch of aprestigious family in the future, so how can she take on that responsibility if she didn't even have theknowledge and guts?”

In truth, Bailey wanted to say, “Your sister has fallen so hard for Veikko, so there's no way she'llbecome the Luther family's matriarch in the future.” In the end, however, she swallowed the wordswhen they reached the tip of her tongue.
