Chapter 577

When Bailey was walking down the stairs, she saw Felicity all covered up in disguise and smiling backat her from the main entrance.

“What are you doing?” Bailey asked.

“I'm going to the Revelle residence with you! My son told me to look after you. He reminded me to keepyou at home before he left. However, you're in a rush to save someone's life, so I can't possibly stopyou from leaving. Hence, I decided to tag along.”

Bailey pinched Felicity's cheek gently and laughed. “All right, Mom. That's enough. It's so cold outside. How can I let you come with me?”

“Since it's so cold outside, perhaps you should stay in as well.”

Err...

Bailey knew there was no talking Felicity out of it, so she had no choice but to nod reluctantly. “Okay. The longer we wait, the bigger the risk Vero is taking. I can't afford to convince you otherwise. Let's go!”

“That's more like it! If you don't let me tag along, I'm not letting you leave!”

“All right, Mrs. Luther. Stop putting up a haughty act despite having an advantage. You're makingsomeone hate you!”

“Oh, Bay!”

...

Meanwhile, Bill and Yvonne were waiting impatiently outside the infirmary at the Revelle residence.Needless to say, they both looked extremely worried.

Suddenly, they heard a set of footsteps in the corridor, and they both turned around at the same time. There, they saw Bailey approaching, and they immediately went up to her.

“You're here, Bay!”

With that, Bill turned toward Felicity and apologized, “I'm sorry to have troubled you.”

“Don't worry about it. Who can I blame for having such a capable daughter-in-law? Let's talk someother time. Bay, go in and check on the patient. Quick!” Felicity urged.

Bailey nodded and rushed into the emergency room.

Bill let out a sigh as he gazed at Bailey's back. “She's such a nice girl. Although she's kind, her life isfilled with hardship and challenges. It's heartbreaking to see what she has to go through in life.”

Felicity chimed in, “You're absolutely right! I was foolish back then for making things difficult for her. However, Bay never held a grudge. Instead, she's even treating me as her mother. Now, she has theLuther family backing her, and no one can touch her. We are dismissing all the gossip and rumors outthere.”

“I'm glad you think that way. You're blessed to have found such an incredible daughter-in-law.”

“Yes. I'm blessed. I'm so thankful for the fact that I saw Bay in a new light. Otherwise, I would've missedout on such an amazing daughter-in-law. Wait. No. She's my daughter now. From now on, I'm going totreat her as my own daughter.”

...

After Bailey changed into a clean coverall, she entered the operating room and saw Justin standingbeside the operating table in a daze. At the same time, there were several experts engaged in adiscussion.

Bailey walked toward Justin and patted his shoulder. “Hey! Wake up!”

Justin turned around and saw Bailey. “What are you doing here?”

Instead of answering him, Bailey pointed at the unconscious Veronique with her chin and asked,“What's the situation?”

Justin nodded. “The cancer cells have begun to spread to other organs, and we are discussing whatkind of drugs to inject to slow the spread.”

Bailey took the CT image and scanned it. With a frown, she said, “The spread is faster than I expected. What do you think we should do next?”

Justin held his forehead and sighed. “What else can we do apart from using drugs to slow down the

spread of cancer cells? Although it's just a temporary fix, we can at least give her more time.”

Bailey kept mum for a while before saying, “These drugs will destroy her body functions and make herimmunity drop rapidly. When the body's immune system gives in, the growth of the cancer cells will goout of control. When that happens, the anti-cancer drug will be useless even if it's developed.”

Justin's face fell and responded in a frustrated tone, “What do you think we should do, then? Are wejust going to sit by and let the cancer cells spread? She'll die even faster that way.”

“Well, that's something we need to do.” Bailey then suddenly grabbed his arm and asked solemnly,“Would you like to take a gamble? Do you want to bet on the possibility that I can develop the anti-cancer drug before her cancer cells spread all over her body?”

Justin pursed his lips and went quiet. After a while, he asked through clenched teeth, “What are theodds?”

“Fifty percent. Justin, she's like a sister to me. Don't doubt me when I say that I'm the last person onearth who wants to see her die. If she dies, I'll have to live in guilt for the rest of my life because her lifeis now in my hands. I'm only willing to take the risk because I have faith and see miracles in clinicaltrials. At the same time, I believe she's strong enough to pull through.”

Justin couldn't help but chuckle. “What else can I say? Let's gamble. We won't inject her with anythinguntil you've developed the anti-cancer drug. Bailey, I'm leaving my life and Veronique's in your hands. Ifthings go south, please look after Zephyr.”

Bailey shifted her gaze elsewhere and answered in a hoarse voice, “Don't say that. You're both goingto live.”

After saying that, she went silent for a while before shutting her eyes and gritting her teeth. “If things gosouth, I promise I'll treat Zephyr as my own son.”

“Thank you.”

...

Concurrently, Zoey was on the phone with someone in a private room on the second floor of a coffeeshop.

Seated across from her was a fashionably dressed young girl, Scarlett.

“Did you ask me out to watch you talk on the phone?” Scarlett asked.
