Chapter 799

If that was the case, then things could get tricky. What Bailey feared most was that Veikko might havegiven Shaun some leverage over him.

If that were the case, Veikko would have no choice but to be led by the nose by Shaun. All becauseVeikko was overly loyal.

That was both his strength and fatal weakness. A person seeking revenge could not have too manyconcerns and entanglements. Clearly, Veikko was not someone who could be ruthless.

Veikko still had his conscience, not entirely obliterated by hatred, making it easy for others to grasp hisvulnerability.

Artemis seemed to have read Bailey's mind and said faintly, “Regardless of whether Shaun hasVeikko's mother's ashes in his hands, with his personality, he'll still make the trip. For someone likeVeikko, family affection is the only precious thing in his heart, and he would never allow anyone totrample on his mother's remains. Shaun has precisely grasped Veikko's weakness. That's why hedares to threaten Veikko like this. In my opinion, most likely, Shaun is bluffing.”

Artemis continued, “Perhaps there was a time when Shaun did leave half of the ashes behind foremergencies. But later, when Veikko was caught, the Carter family mistakenly believed Shaun haddied. Shaun keeping those ashes would not be of much use anyway. There's a high chance that heinstructed someone to dispose of them. Veikko is still too impulsive. Hopefully, this incident will serveas a lesson for him.”

Bailey remained silent. At the Saviors branch, after receiving a phone call from Connie, Carideelearned that a devastating fire had broken out, causing severe damage and injuring several children.

She could not sit still after hearing the news.

Sunray Welfare Center was an institution Caridee had been sponsoring all along.

Caridee knew all the children inside, and every time she went to the welfare center, those innocent andlovely little ones would gather around her, addressing her, “Caridee!”

Now that the welfare center had just experienced a fire, they had just gone through a life-and-deathordeal. They must be really terrified and anxious right now. Caridee felt she had to go there in personregardless of whether she could help. She wanted to be by their side.

“Alright, Ms. Hentlor, I got it. Have the teachers calm the children first, and I'll be right there.”

After hanging up the phone, Caridee casually put on an overcoat and went out. The entire branch hadalready been taken care of by Mindy.

So when Caridee left, her path was smooth and unobstructed. When Caridee encountered ahousekeeper midway, she tried to inquire about Veikko's whereabouts.

However, the other party informed that Veikko was not around, and his whereabouts were unknown.Caridee had no choice but to give up.

She borrowed a car and left the branch alone. As soon as Caridee left the branch, Mindy trailed her bycar.

Caridee, you can't escape this time. Mr. Carter was injured so severely because of you. Now he's

infuriated. Just obediently become his tool for venting and let him release his frustrations properly.Good luck to you!

Once the car entered the boulevard, Mindy spoke into her wireless earpiece, “Caridee is headingtowards the welfare center. Prepare to take action at any moment.”

“Noted, Mindy. Don't worry. We'll definitely handle this matter properly. It's best that you don't showyourself. Otherwise, you'll be in trouble if Mr. Veikko traces it back to you.”

“Okay! After capturing her, take her to Xemrich. I'll be waiting for you on Wind Street in Xemrich.”

“Alright.”

In the Derport area, Veikko drove the car and tried to take hidden routes.

After circling the small lanes, he found a private airport. From a distance, Veikko observed the situationinside and found that there were indeed quite a few people. If a hail of bullets came at once, Veikkomight be unable to escape that day.

That meant he would lose his life right there. In order to protect his mother's ashes from beingdesecrated by enemies, Veikko had no choice but to risk his life. With that thought in mind, Veikkobegan assembling the gun barrel.

Once everything was prepared, he pushed the door open and slipped outside.

Just as Veikko was about to climb over the wall to enter the airport, a figure suddenly appeared before

his eyes. Veikko instinctively struck out. However, upon catching a whiff of the familiar scent, he quicklyreined in his strength.

Pop!

Bailey slapped Veikko fiercely across the face. Veikko lowered his head, remaining silent withoutsaying a word.

“Do you know where you went wrong?”

Veikko tugged at the corner of his mouth and replied defiantly, “I don't think I'm wrong because I do itfor my mother. A person can be cold-blooded and heartless but can't disown their own family.”

With another clear pop sound, Bailey raised her arm and slapped Veikko on the face once more. “Doyou know what did you do wrongly?” Veikko frowned, repeating what he had just said, and added at theend,

“If you're in my situation, you'll make the same choice.”

Bailey was about to slap Veikko again, but Artemis, who was standing at the side, stopped her.

“Your slap is quite loud. Be careful not to startle the people inside. If you have something to say, justspeak clearly and don't beat around the bush.”

Bailey glared at Artemis, then turned to Veikko with a ruthless face, gritted her teeth, and commented,“You're right. If I were in your situation today, I would definitely do the same. But before I take action, I'llsend someone to investigate. I'll only proceed to do what I need to do once the situation is confirmed to

avoid suffering from double losses. I don't want to end up not getting the ashes and getting myselfkilled too.”

Veikko was taken aback, turned his head to look at Bailey, and asked awkwardly, “What do you meanby that?”

“It means exactly what you think. I mobilized the forces of Tarragon and the Saviors to investigate butfound no evidence of Shaun ordering someone to retrieve anything from the Carter family and bring itto Moranta. Plus, this private airport belongs to an earl of Ustrana's royal family. You barged in with agun. By sheer luck, you're still alive now. But you've managed to offend the entire royal family.”

Veikko's eyes revealed a hint of astonishment. After being taught a lesson by Bailey, Veikko graduallycalmed down.

This woman hit me, not because I fought desperately for my mother's ashes, but because I lost mysense of propriety and took action without a detailed investigation.

“So this is the private airport of an earl? Why did Shaun lead me here? To have me break in and usetheir hands to get rid of me?”

Bailey's face darkened, and she asked coldly, “What about Caridee? When you left, did you make sureshe was in a safe place?”

Veikko was momentarily stunned and frowned. When Veikko came out, he instructed his bodyguard towatch closely on Caridee. Plus, she was in the Saviors branch. She should be fine.

“I've Caridee to settle down in the Saviors branch, and Charlie is watching over her. There shouldn't be

any problems.”

“Nothing will go wrong?” Bailey's expression suddenly turned unpleasant, and even her gaze becamesomewhat fierce.

“You better confirm it first before telling me this. I'm afraid you'll end up embarrassing yourself.” Veikkowas getting a little anxious. Considering Shaun's cunning moves, he always felt the latter had anulterior motive.

Could that damn thing possibly be...

Upon thinking of that, Veikko quickly took out his phone and dialed Charlie's phone number.

“Hello, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

Listening to the formulaic female voice on the phone, Veikko's heart suddenly sank. He held onto hisphone tightly. Bailey could tell from his expression that the phone call did not go through.

“You've been lured away from your base. This is a trap. Shaun is not after your life, but Caridee's.”
