Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love -
Chapter 209 Why Was She Here
"Jay, your wife is pregnant with your child. Can you stop gossiping about others and instead take care of your wife?1 Charles spoke, puffing the last smoke before putting out the cigarette. "Of course! My wife is my baby now!" With a smile, Jay ran to Doris and said, "Honey, you didn't drink, did you?"
"I did. So what?" With brows knitted, Doris acted coquettishly.
"Well, it's good to drink some. Ha-ha!" As soon as he heard what Doris said, he immediately held her. Now that he understood her personality better, Jay was more confident in dealing with her.
If he were not to piss her off, then the two could get by in a day without fighting like cats and dogs.
"Nancy, we are leaving now." Doris rolled down the window and expressed.
"Alright, take care." Smiling, Nancy waved her hand.
Then without saying anything further, Jay drove away.
"Honey, shall we go home too?" Charles suddenly asked as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Why didn't you stay at home with the children? Why are you here?" Nancy couldn't help smiling as she felt his embrace on her.
"Well, I'm also afraid that my wife will be taken away from me, so I came here," Charles responded with a smile and opened the front seat door.
"You've learned a lot from Jay, huh." Nancy got in, still wearing a grin while fastening her seatbelt.
"Yes, as long as my wife likes it." With those flirtatious words, Charles went around the car and settled himself on the driver's seat.
All of a sudden, Nancy saw a car speeding past them, and caught a familiar figure driving it.
'Was that Anna?' she wondered, narrowing her eyes while her neck elongated, looking after the car.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Charles asked, noticing the bothered look on her face.
"Nothing, nothing." She only shook her head, afraid that she might have seen it wrong.
But then, her phone suddenly rang, breaking the deafening silence that fell on them.
Nancy took out her phone half-heartedly and saw it was a call from Erin.
"Director Nancy, there's an emergency! The patient with leg infection wants to jump off the building today! He's attempting to commit suicide!" Something reverberated in Nancy's head. It wasn't the kind of buzz from alcohol, but more of a dire sign for a crisis.
"Have you called the police?" she Nancy anxiously, biting her nails subconsciously.
"I did, but they won't come until a while later." Erin was about to cry, and Nancy could only imagine the hospital's tension right now.
"Tell the police not to come in for the time being. Their presence might trigger the patient more. I'm on my way there!"
"What's wrong?" Charles glanced at her while both his hands were on the stirring wheel.
"Hurry to the hospital! My patient is in danger!" Nancy commanded him with an evident sense of urgency, tapping the dashboard in panic.
And although her heart was beating frantically, something bugged her mind.
That particular patient had always been in some sort of trouble. Ever since he was admitted to the hospital, a lot of emergencies had played around him.
In fact, he could have been discharged yesterday, but he chose to stay despite his hospital bills. And today, he made such a fuss again!
What on earth was he up to?
Those thoughts filled her mind while Charles drove like a mad man.
Soon after, his car screeched and halted by the entrance. Then, as soon as they got out, the two witnessed a lot of people gathering on the grounds downstairs.
After surveying the entire place, Nancy saw the man standing on the top floor. His disheveled hair and dirty face shone against the hospital lights. "I don't want to live anymore! I can't bear the pain of my legs!" he shouted at the top of his lungs.
Then, after seeing the flock of spectators gathered downstairs, he warned, "Don't come over! If anyone of you dares to get close, I'll jump down from here!" Although the man sounded and looked extremely crazy, Nancy could see that he was very nervous.
The doctors and nurses stood still, completely lost, and did not know what to do.
"What should we do, Charles?"
"Do you have an anesthetic gun?" he asked, still looking at the patient on the rooftop.
ו"
I suppose so." In a hurry, Nancy asked someone to bring the anesthetic gun and handed it over to Charles.
Then, he hurried to the rooftop with Nancy behind him.
And as she got closer, her heart beat even more frantically.
"Are you sure this will work?" Nancy asked with uncertainty. Her eyes glinted a mixture of anxiety and doubt.
"Of course, but I have to aim at the patient at a close distance; otherwise..." Even Charles was not totally confident in his plan. But since this was the only way he could think, he had no choice but to carry it out Meanwhile, Nancy fell completely silent. Although she was somehow worried, a piece of her trusted Charles more than anyone.
"We have to try it anyway," Charles uttered coldly before taking a deep breath.
"Alright. I guess you're right." Nancy nodded reluctantly.
Then, she shifted her gaze to her patient. The man, whose name was Boyd He, looked extremely exhausted, as evidenced by the redness in his eyes.
"Hi, Boyd"
Nancy cautiously approached him and casually greeted him with a smile.
Boyd He was stunned at the sudden voice behind him. He just warned them not to get close, and yet a woman had ascended to where he was. "Who are you?" he asked in a confused tone.
Nancy took a step forward and uttered, "I'm Nancy, your attending doctor." "Nonsense! I don't have an attending doctor! Don't come closer! If you do, I swear I will jump down from here!" Boyd was clearly agitated. His voice was even louder while his face was covered in sweats.
Nancy raised her hands and slowly crouched down. "Alright, I won't. I'll just stay here."
Suspicion was painted all over the patient's face. The past couple of days had been pretty hard for him, and frankly, his time in this hospital had taught him to be less trusting of people, especially doctors. "Please step down from there. I promise I won't hurt you," Nancy pleaded in a soft tone, hoping he would listen to her.
"No!" But the patient was really as stubborn as a bull.
"Who came to see you today, Boyd?" she asked, still feeling the same thing that bugged her back in the car. Boyd had a bone injury, but why did he seem to get a mental disorder all of a sudden?
Was it because he was too weak to bear it himself?
Or did someone deliberately induced something on him?
"You're wrong! No one came to see me today! I just don't want to live anymore! Let me die!" His voice was filled with so much pain and agony that it almost transcended to Nancy.
Then, he turned around and prepared to jump. But Charles was quick enough to give him a shot of anesthesia and rushed towards him.
They thought it was effective, but then Boyd suddenly woke up. "Don't come over! I said, don't come over!" he yelled while stepping back quickly.
And without any other words, he turned around and jumped down.
"No..." When Nancy ran over, she found that Boyd was already on the other side of the rail, about to fall on the ground.
Without hesitation, she grabbed his arm, determined not to let him go.
"No! Please, don't!" Nancy's flesh and skin kept rubbing against the stone cement, but she didn't mind the pain.
She couldn't let her patient die in front of her, not when she could clearly do something about it.
The anesthetic finally started to take effect, causing Boyd's body to be feeble.
And as Nancy tightened her grip, she felt Charles grabbing her clothes.
Slowly, the ripping of her skin intensified and was the pain. And as she gritted her teeth to endure it all, Nancy even grasped the man more firmly.
On one side was Boyd, and on the other was Charles.
And because of the strength of each man, Nancy felt like her body was thinning into halves.
Even though the air cushion had been placed downstairs, she still didn't want Boyd to fall.
She couldn't and would never-make her patients feel as though she had given up on them.
But she was slowly losing all her strength, and couldn't hold on any longer.
"Charles!" Nancy shouted, feeling as if her heart hung in the air.
The man he loved climbed out of the guardrail and heroically went down the pipe, grabbing Boyd He's leg.
"Let' me go! Don't let me go! Ahh!"
The latter cried randomly. His fright was now showing, and his brave facade finally tore off.
At the same time, Nancy still held on him although her arm had gotten so numb.
She bit her lips tightly, hoping that she could somehow forget about the seething pain.
Fortunately, Charles held Boyd in his arms, and with his Herculean strength, he lifted him back up.
And when he was finally safe on the rooftop, Nancy breathed a sigh of relief.
"Take Boyd away," Nancy said weakly, looking at Charles, who was still outside the guardrail.
Without Boyd's weight, Charles jumped over the guardrail easily.
Nancy, who was more than nervous to see Charles on the edge of the building, sat on the ground, finally relieved that he was safe too.
Charles bent over and pulled her up. "Are you all right?"
Nodding, she flashed him a reassuring smile, although the throbbing pain was building up.
But then, when Charles' palm brushed against her skin, he pounced upon something wet. Lowering his head, he saw blood dripping from Nancy's arm.
"Are you hurt?" He immediately held up her arm to check.
"Ouch, it hurts! I think I dislocated my arm." She winced while informing him.
"I'll carry you to the ward." Then, he hurriedly carried her on his back.
"Do you need a doctor?" Charles asked as soon as they arrived at the ward.
With sweat all over her face, Nancy uttered in pain, "No, I can do it myself."
"No, No! I can't let you do that, Director. I'm here!" Suddenly, Anna barged in uninvitingly, wearing a smile on her lips.
'What is she doing here?' Nancy wondered at the unexpected sight of her.
