Chapter 1289 Turn The Guards Into Believers (Part One)

Darren and Murphy bided their time patiently while lurking in the shadows, waiting for anopportunity to enter the castle.

"See those two guards over there? They are cultivators at the top level of the Star God Realm. Wewon't be able to get past them so easily,” Darren said as he assessed the situation in his head"Yeah, I know. We can't confront them on our own.” Murphy shook his head, disregarding thethought, and added, "There are many Defense Arrays scattered across the castle. Once we use ourgod's power, we will risk giving away our location."

"Then what do you suggest we do?" There was no way they could get inside with the guardsconstantly on the lookout.

"Wait. I'll use my physical strength to get rid of them,” Murphy whispered. As long as they resortedto any other method other than their god's power, the Defense Arrays wouldn't be able to pick upon their presence. Even so, approaching the guards stealthily wasn't a walk in the park.

"I suppose it's worth a try. Hold on. How about we capture these two guards instead and force themto become my believers? That way, we can manipulate them into following our orders. What do youthink?" Darren spoke, coming up with another strategy.

"That sounds even better! I totally forgot that you're a Defiant Master. Let's go with that then.”After going over their plan, they decided to remain hidden until they found the perfect opportunityto strike.

The next day, their wait ended, and the perfect chance to engage presented itself. They found theguards indulging themselves with a feast they prepared with some beast meat along with wine tokeep their throats from going dry. Preoccupied with filling their stomachs, they finally let down theirguards.

Not wanting to let this opportunity go to waste, Murphy rushed over in their direction to sneak upon them while they were still engrossed.

Before the guards could have a moment to react, he grabbed them by the throats and choked themjust enough to suppress their ability to scream and alert the others. With the two men at the mercyof Murphy's chokehold, he dragged them all the way back till they were out of sight.

When Darren saw Murphy swoop the men up alone, he rushed over to his side and aided him withthe capture, until they were a fair distance away from the castle.

"I'm sorry. I couldn't suppress my strength, and now one of them is dead,” Murphy whisperedapologetically.

"No, it's fine. One is more than enough,” Darren reassured Murphy and then turned to face theguard. "You have two choices. Either swear on your life to serve and believe in the Conflicting ChiefGod. Or else, prepare yourself to reunite with your companion in the underworld.”

Still traumatized by the sudden capture, the guard failed to muster up the courage to respond toDarren's call.

"What are you waiting for? Answer him!" Murphy cut the silence short with his curt tone.

"Y-yes! Yes, I swear!" Not wanting to bear the brunt of their growing impatience, the guard activatedhis soul power. But, it was not to dedicate himself to following Darren. It was so he could send amessage back to the castle, alerting them of the infiltration.

"Humph!" Catching on to the guard's intentions, Murphy struck the guard on his back, carving abloody hole into his skin. Overwhelmed with pain ringing through his body, the guard was forcefullyinterrupted before he could do anything.

"You must hate your life, right? You sneaky bastard, Go to hell!" Murphy raised his hand, readyinghimself to slap the guard to his death.

"Wait, Master Murphy. Leave this one to me!"

Darren stopped Murphy short, interrupting his course of action. Walking up to the guard, Darrenput on his most intimidating face while he drew out his sword. In an attempt to force the guard intosubmission, Darren swiped at the guard's chest, leaving a shallow wound with blood circling aroundhis body.

"Go ahead! I'm not afraid of dying!" Of course, the guard refused to budge. He was a daredevil, whohad gone through intensive training that prepared him for such an event, where he could embracedeath if need be.

"You want us to end your suffering, don't you? Don't get ahead of yourself. It won't be that easy.”Darren toyed with the guard as he smirked mischievously.

Soon after, the guard started behaving awkwardly. He felt a strange feeling take over him as he feltan itching sensation in his chest.

Unable to withstand it, he kept on scratching himself frantically to make the feeling go away, but tono avail. His intense scratching tore at his skin and flesh, but he didn't seem to care.

"Shit! Master Murphy, lock him up. Don't let him move!"

Snapping out of his confusion, Murphy quickly sealed the guard to prevent him from dying from hisself-caused injuries.

Frustrated from the guard's resistance, Darren inflicted additional wounds on his body as a form ofpunishment.

Stricken with pain and exhaustion, the guard collapsed on the ground, motionlessly. The guard'ssuffering refused to meet an end. His face lay severely mutilated beyond recognition.

"How are you enjoying our hospitality? Still want to resist?"

Darren kept slashing at the guard's body as though he were his toy. He made a point to avoidcutting at his vital signs to keep him alive.

Unable to endure the torture, the guard knelt on the ground to gesture his surrender and smackedhis head before Darren's feet.

"Master Murphy, undo the seal."

At Darren's words, Murphy removed the seal to allow the guard to talk.

"Sir, I swear, I swear! Just stop this, release me of this agony, please!”

The guard writhed before them, screaming and crying to be let go. The itching sensation left on hisbody was far more excruciating than the training he had received.

"What are you waiting for? Swear!"

"I, Abbot, hereby swear that I will believe in and serve the Conflicting Chief God with all my life..."
