Chapter 879 An Alliance With The Black-Armored Man (Part Two)
Darren was overjoyed. For a moment, he had doubted that the black-armored man would reallytake in his words. But as he thought it over, he understood how freedom weighed in a man's heart. For those who had suffered much from the oppression of others, the desire for freedom wasunimaginable. Now the black-armored man saw a chance of escape, and it was his very last hope. Itwas only natural, then, that he would willingly risk the doom of a second death to fight for it. Darrencouldn't help but pity this man.
"I'm glad you see things my way," said Darren, sitting up. "But let's not be hasty. You should go firstand replace out the exact route of our escape. I'll stay here in disguise for a few more days. That willgive us enough time to prepare.”
The reply of the black-armored man was fierce, driven by fear of betrayal as much as by hope. "Verywell, I will follow your instructions. But if you dare lie to me, I will kill you for it, even if it means myown life as well!"
"Don't worry. Your strength is much higher than mine,” Darren pointed out. "Wouldn't it be suicidefor me to lie to you?"
Without any reply, the black-armored man left him.
Two days passed. The Misty Emperor was indeed a very cautious person, and so from time to timehe released his spiritual sense to spy on him. He planned to visit his captive to interrogate himagain, once he saw that he'd reached the limit of his resistance.
But Darren's plan worked perfectly, as he was able to sense it whenever the Misty Emperor wasabout to spy on him. So, each time, he pretended to still be in torment from the soul attack.Whenever he didn't have to put on a show, he passed the time by practicing his cultivation.
One day, during the cultivation, Darren suddenly had a very strange and bad feeling that he hadnever experienced before. It seemed to him that it was coming from his Space Ring.
'Oh, this is bad!" he thought to himself as he focused on the device. It felt like it was about tocollapse.
It was just then that he remembered how, not too long ago, he had placed an unconscious two-tribulation inferior holy warrior inside of it.
“Oh, no. Did he wake up?’
It was known that the Space Ring couldn't contain living things with fierce fluctuation of life energy.Once that holy warrior woke up, he would inevitably do whatever he had to in order to escape, andthat would make the Space Ring explode, thus destroying everything inside of it.
Darren released his spiritual sense in a hurry, projecting it into the Space Ring. After a few momentsof searching, he found that the inferior holy warrior was still floating inside, with no sign ofregaining consciousness.
"No, it's not him. Then who is making this havoc?" Darren sputtered in dismay.
This was a potential catastrophe, for he had collected many things in his Space Ring, and now all ofthem were at stake. His mind spun as he searched every corner of the device.
Finally, his attention stopped at the corpses of the two tribulation holy warriors that he hadcollected in this cave, floating as though they were on the surface of a lake.
Darren soon noticed that although the bodies themselves were still, there was a strange wave ofstrong life energy circling them. The effect made it seem as if they were asleep rather than deadSurprised, Darren inspected them more closely and found that there were some dark-spirit crystalsfloating near the corpses.
A faint green light was emanating from the crystals and steadily pouring itself into them.
Darren thought for a moment, then suddenly understood the situation he was facing. Without adoubt, the dark-spirit crystals were regenerating the two men’s souls!
As for the corpses themselves, the Space-time Palace had once used an arcane skill to try toresurrect them. In the end, these efforts had failed, perhaps because they were simply too old anddecayed.
But even so, the arcane skill that was set upon them did not just disappear. It remained still over theyears and now, with the help of the soul-creating nature of the dark-spirit crystals, the old magichad once again been activated.
Darren's heart sank. If these two ancient tribulation holy warriors were brought back to life, not onlywould they harm his Space Ring, but his own life would be in danger. There was no way that Darrencould compete against those men.
"No, I can't let this happen!" he cried desperately.
Although Darren might not be able to actually stop the resurrection process, he had to at least stallit or slow it down. At least, there was obviously some time left for him to try. Without wasting anymore time, he fumbled to bar the process.
With his spiritual sense, he reached out and moved the dark-spirit crystals, to a far corner, trying tohold them there so that they would not provide the bodies with more energy.
While he was still doing this, the Space Ring shuddered with a malevolent, ethereal presence.
It seemed that the two corpses had already been imbued with some minimal level of consciousness.Seeing then that the resurrection process had interrupted, they grew extremely angry at Darren.Darren did not give much heed to their wrath, instead taking a moment to make sure that the linkbetween the crystals and the corpses didn't reassert itself. When he was satisfied, he withdrew hisspiritual sense and went back to his practice.
But even as he did so, an intriguing and hopeful idea came to his mind. 'If I could ever replace a way tocontrol them, then I would have two ancient tribulation holy warriors to protect me. In that case, Iwouldn't be so afraid of fighting the Misty Emperor!
The idea was not futile or fanciful. In fact, the longer he pondered it, the more confident Darrengrew that it was in fact possible. He would get in contact with his avatar later because no one elsewas powerful enough to aid him in accomplishing this goal.
