Chapter 881 The Black-Armored Man's Past (Part Two)
He fell silent, his eyes bright with grief and hatred. With the ending of the grotesque story at last,Darren let out a long sigh of sympathy.
"That is a terrible fate,” he agreed. "But I'm curious about why that Shirley would treat you socruelly. Even if she chose to betray you, she didn't need to torture you like that. She could easilyhave just plundered all of your power and killed you once and for all, instead of dragging it out insuch a way."
"I didn’t understand either. So I asked her before I was slain," the man said, his tone terribly matter-of-fact. "Her answer was very simple. She said that Sun liked to have sex with her in front of me, andmy painful look would give him excitement. That's all."
Darren had seen and heard many mortifying things, but this was too much even for him. Hiscountenance turned grave and fiery.
"Curse them! I can hardly believe anyone would have such an unfortunate life! And after getting asecond chance, you've had to be under the oppression of the Misty Emperor for so long. Even amalefactor wouldn't deserve such a tragic fate. You certainly don't!"
"Indeed? You know, I've always liked to imagine the look on their face, when they replace out that I'vecome back to life. From my very first day back in this world, I've sworn that I would become theirworst nightmare. Even if I'm much weaker than them now, I'll still use all my might to make theirlives hell, as much as I can!"
Sighing, the black-armored man hung his head. "Or, I would, if I could ever break out of the Space-time Palace. But look at me now, helplessly ensnared by the Misty Emperor. How could I ever dreamof getting my revenge when I can't even get myself out of this?"
And sorrowful and disturbed as he was by the tale of this man’s misfortune, the important details ofthe story had not escaped Darren.
"Do you mean to say that they are still alive? Where are they?" he asked.
"I have begged the lord to investigate,” answered the man. "Those two are still alive to this day. They've become the top leaders of the eighteen cities. They're on a level that was on par with half-step emperors."
"What?" Darren grumbled.
"How could they have gotten so much power? I have never known any humans of such great powerexist." Darren looked keenly at the black-armored man, hoping to get more answers to hisquestions.
"Darren, do not forget that I am also a human," the black-armored man said mildly.
Indeed, Darren realized that he had forgotten the fact that this man had been a four-tribulationjunior holy warrior in his previous life.
"Well, what happened in the past is past,” the man went on. His tears were gone and his voice hadregained its strength. "Let us speak no more of them and turn our attention to the present. Do youhave any plan for our escape? It's all up to you this time. As long as you get us both out of herealive, you can command me as you please in the future. But on one condition, however: do not treatme like a slave! I am done being a slave!"
Hearing this, Darren felt a little embarrassed.
In truth, he had been lying when he said that he could help this man get free of the Soul ControlSkill. Darren's original plan had been to take advantage of him to escape, and to leave him behindas soon as he'd gotten out. No doubt the Misty Emperor would be furious and kill his subordinateafter learning of his betrayal. By then, however, Darren had hoped to be long gone, otherwise hewould be doomed as well
However, things seemed to be slowly veering off their original course. Darren could hardly gothrough with it now, having learned of the disastrous fate of the black-armored man.
And after all, the man had only treated him roughly because he was under orders by the MistyEmperor. In reality, he and Darren had no reason to hold grudges against one another.Nevertheless, Darren had no intention of revealing the fact that he had cheated him. If he did so, hiscompanion would think he'd lost all hope of escape. He would surely sink into permanent despairand indignation, and try to kill Darren for his deception.
With all this in mind, Darren decided to buy some time to come up with a new plan. "Don’t worry,”he urged. "And be patient. You have endured long enough to withstand a few more days’ wait. Assoon as all of the preparations are complete, I will let you know."
"Very well, Darren. My trust is in you," the black-armored man replied. Indeed, he meant every wordhe said. He was deeply moved by Darren's sympathy and indignation upon hearing his miserablestory.
As such, he had now begun to consider Darren as a friend, and so he then resolved to reveal anyinformation that might be useful.
"I should tell you," he went on, "your friends and those elders are locked up in another place. I'mafraid they will be in danger after our escape.”
Darren was shocked. It occurred to him then that he was the first one who had been caught by theMisty Emperor, and he had lost consciousness during the whole ordeal. He had no idea what elsehad happened on the battlefield that day. "What? Tell me more!"
The black-armored man went into detail, recounting what had become of the battle after Darrenhad blacked out. Most significantly, he went into detail describing each of the other prisoners whohad been taken.
Darren immediately recognized that they were Scott, Hanson, Mathew and Leighton.
"No, I cannot leave my friends behind. The plan has to be changed. I have to save them first if weare to escape,” he declared.
His face was drawn with determination, and with worry, because now the stakes were higher thanever. Just getting himself and the black-armored man out of this place was never going to be easy. But even if he succeeded in that, the Misty Emperor would surely kill the prisoners in his rage. Andno matter the odds against him, Darren could not allow that to happen.
