The Almighty Son-In-Law ( Cyrus Johnson ) -
Chapter 4
Chapter 4
As the current regulations prohibited gender checks, Innerzen Medical Center discreetly provided such services.
It could be said that even the most skilled veteran doctors at Innerzen Medical Center struggled to determine the gender of a three-month-old fetus accurately.
Frequent misjudgments often led to disputes, and they had to swallow their losses while compensating for the mistakes.
Eventually, they decided to install an imported color ultrasound equipment in the basement, making quick and easy money.
Rachel chuckled, “Mr. Wright, why worry? If you’re not confident in your ability, then this guy should have an even lesser chance at getting it right. Even if it’s a gamble, there’s a 50 percent chance of winning.”
Cyrus also laughed, “If Mr. Wright is afraid, let’s stick to the old rules and split the payment evenly.”
Initially hesitant, Mr. Wright was suddenly spurred into action by Cyrus’s provocation.
“Why would I be afraid of a wimp like you? It’d be a laughingstock! You just want to pick a challenging case and try your luck, right?”
Cyrus shrugged, “My luck hasn’t been great these years, let’s see if you dare.”
“I’m not scared of a stray dog, let alone you. Let’s begin.”
Benedict glanced nervously at Rachel, who threw a coy glance.
He instantly felt more secure.
Quickly, the pregnant woman and her husband were brought into the consultation room. Cyrus and Benedict, wearing white coats, sat there with an experienced expert nearby.
The pregnant woman smiled, “Why are there three doctors?”
The experienced expert grinned, “Our clinic is currently having a promotion. We’re offering a free expert consultation for more accurate determination of the infant’s information.”
The pregnant woman was delighted, having a free consultation with three experts; it was a windfall.
Each doctor examined her pulse, and then Cyrus and Mr. Wright left without saying anything.
The experienced expert continued to inquire about other details, engaging in one-on-one communication.
Returning to the Serenity Suite, two cups were placed in front of them.
The first cup contained basic information, such as gender, with notes inside turned upside down.
The second cup held additional information.
If the first cup couldn’t determine the winner, the second cup would be opened, and the winner would be decided based on the information provided.
The spectators were all colleagues, with 20 doctors working in the clinic serving as potential judges.
As long as there was no intentional cheating, there would generally be no significant mistakes.
Benedict smoked and drank his tea. He felt very relaxed, and said, “I say, Lord Cyrus, since we’re doing charity, why bother with your life? Let me have some fun with your wife. It’s also a form of charity.”
Laughter erupted from the crowd, everyone eagerly awaiting the spectacle.
“Yeah, one hundred dollars at a time, very profitable.”
“A few of us will throw in a few hundred thousand on the side. If you win, you can pay off your debts.”
In recent years, with the decline of the Johnson family, the men in Herbal City, without exception, coveted Zoey’s beauty.
They would often visit and hit on Zoey, only to be coldly rejected by her.
“Are you so confident in winning?” Cyrus chuckled.
“Of course. Didn’t I win two or three million from you before? As long as you agree to my conditions, I can raise the stakes to 1.5 million,” Benedict said.
For the sake of Zoey, he was truly willing to bleed.
Cyrus shook his head, smiling, “I’m not in a hurry. Let’s win some pocket money today and pay you back tenfold in the future.”
If he agreed to use Zoey as a bargaining chip, along with the additional bets from onlookers, Cyrus could easily win two million today.
Indeed, it could significantly alleviate the current crisis, even paying off all debts.
However, a man who used his wife as a bet was worse than an animal.
Cyrus, the renowned “great medical expert”, couldn’t bring himself to commit such a despicable act.
Zoey had already suffered enough. He didn’t want to violate or disrespect her anymore.
“Mr. Wright, Cyrus doesn’t even consider you a threat,” Rachel chuckled.
Today’s Cyrus gave her a sense of unfamiliarity. He was still a gambler at heart but noticeably less foolish.
What happened? He was still sleeping like a pig last night.
Cyrus took a sip of tea, smiled, and said, “I’m not targeting Mr. Wright. I’m targeting everyone here. You all will pay back tenfold.”
This statement hung in the silence of the teahouse for three seconds. Everyone was shocked by Cyrus’s arrogance.
Then, they erupted in laughter all around.
Rachel couldn’t help but laugh and said, “Cyrus, if you can make me lose my family fortune, you can do whatever you want to me in the future.”
Cyrus also laughed foolishly, worried that he might have startled this bunch too much with his boldness.
He flicked Rachel’s straight nose and said, “Sure, just don’t cry for mercy when it happens.”
Rachel checked her watch and said, “In another 15 minutes, the results will be out. You can daydream a bit more.”
Soon, the front desk nurse brought the ultrasound results.
She had already sneakily looked at the results, a contemptuous smile playing on her lips, standing there, ready to watch the show.
It seemed to say that this loser had lost again.
Benedict glanced at the nurse, knowing he had won.
He took out the report from his bag, glanced at it, and pushed it toward Cyrus.
Then, with a smirk, he uncovered the note in the cup, which read, “It’s a boy.”
“Cyrus, take a look for yourself. Do you admit defeat?” Rachel held her tea cup, observing Cyrus’s reaction.
She was too familiar with Cyrus’s expression every time he lost a bet—a frustrated and miserable look.
The crowd started to taunt.
“Haha, you’ve even lost your life this time.”
“Someone else is probably going to enjoy spending time with your wife.”
“I heard she’s still a virgin.”
Cyrus, without much reaction, glanced at the ultrasound image, pushed it to Rachel, and said, “Rachel, double-check to see if there’s a mistake.”
“What do you mean? Are you accusing me of cheating?” Rachel asked with a touch of annoyance.
“Do you really want me to spell it out?”
A sharp light flashed in Cyrus’s eyes.
Rachel suddenly felt a chill down her spine.
This fierce look was something she had never seen from him before.
Doubting that he could spot any flaws, she laughed, “Don’t try to play dirty when you lose. Can you act like a man? Admit defeat. The reputation of Innerzen Medical Center is not something you can smear.”
“Why waste time talking to him? Go quickly and bring the organ donation contract. Let him try to play dirty today,” Benedict shouted.
“Alright, today promises to be entertaining.”
The nurse hurried to the office to fetch the contract, preparing the signing pen, filled with excitement.
After all, this was the first fool who had not only lost money but also staked his life since the opening of Innerzen Medical Center.
Everyone thought Cyrus must have been scared out of his wits, but surprisingly, he smiled without a trace of panic.
“Stop pretending, sign it quickly. I’m waiting to get paid. From now on, your life belongs to me. If you want to save your pathetic life, your wife has to be mine tonight,” Mr. Wright urged.
