Rage ripped through the barriers of my mind making me shred through my clothes and the hands that held me. There was no stopping the beast. Red eyes focused on my twin. This was his doing. All of this. His plan all along. He had to pay with his life.

“Amaris! No!” I heard Ross scream as Rage readied himself to lunge at Sorin. I was barely aware of the

others in the room.

Nothing else mattered, nothing but the desire to sink my canines into the Sorin’s throat. I wanted to watch the life leave his blue eyes as his blood spurted into my mouth.

Mighty paws collided with Sorin’s chest, sending him crashing to the floor. Snarling with lips pulled back so far that every razor-sharp tooth was exposed, he lowered his face slowly, menacingly, watching as Sorin’s blue eyes filled with fear. The sharp acidic stench of urine reached my nose.

But what happened next was unexpected. Searing pain… Rage shook his head to clear our vision that suddenly went hazy. Couldn’t focus. Feeling hands pull at my fur, shoving at my heavy shoulders.

“I’m sorry, your Majesty.” I heard Lord Greyson gurgle, sounding as if he were speaking under water. “It’s for your own good.

“You all saw that, he tried to kill me! He’s lost his mind!” were the last words I heard before I slipped into the dark.

I awoke to a splitting headache. Wolfsbane, no doubt. Da mn them! How long have I been out? Found it difficult to open my eyes, ran my shaking fingers over the rough surface I leaned against. This was not

my room.

‘Ross!’ I yelled through the link and immediately regretted it, because of the intense shooting pain

through my brain. I heaved and retched up what little there was in my stomach. Holding onto the bunk to stop the cell from spinning…

Slowly I regained my senses. The familiar damp stench of the dungeons infiltrated my sensitive nostrils. So, they locked me up to keep that traitorous dog that is my twin safe. Did they think they would be able to hold me? When I get out of here, there will be retribution and blood. A lot of blood will be spilled.

My legs shook when I tried to get up. What the hell! How much did they inject me with? Enough to sedate an army? I fell to my knees onto the cold, stone floor. My wolf was knocked out cold, I could barely hear his shallow breaths deep in the recesses of my mind. He will recover; he was strong.

Footsteps approaching. Ross’ scent reached me before he did. “Amaris, I’m sorry. We had no choice.”

I steadied myself against the wall, careful not to touch the bars, because they were made of silver. Of course, they wouldn’t have locked me up in an ordinary cell. I would have torn through it in seconds.

“No choice?” I barked out a bitter laugh. “I’ll have your heads, all of you.”

“My loyalty lies only with you, Amaris. You know that. If you’d killed Sorin it would have been over for you.”

“It would have been justified!” I roared back at him. “This is his doing, all of it.”

“You do not have proof, Amaris!” Ross lowered his voice. “I suspect him, but we need to prove it before the werewolf council. I have my spies looking into it. We’re doing everything we can.”

I grabbed onto the silver bars, ignoring the pain and stench of my skin melting. “And yet Raine is still missing!”

“There is some way we can replace out where she is.” Ross said, “Rhona gave me the name of a witch who will help us.”

“You could have led with that.” I withdrew my hands from the silver bars. I needed the physical pain to

keep me from going insane. The longer I am away from my mate, the more u what she might be enduring. “So, what are you standing here for? Bring the witch.”

I became fearing

Ross left me alone, pacing the confines of the small space. I hated waiting. Tried sitting down on the cot,

tried taking a nap, but each time I closed my eyes, I saw her amber eyes pleading with me to not leave

her.

It left me feeling frustrated and angry. And trapped. With my head in my hands, arms resting on my thighs, I tried to focus my thoughts. I’ve been running around like a madman, and it gained nothing. But it was so difficult to think clearly when I was consumed with anxiety for Raine. Every waking moment she was all I could think of.

One of my guards brought me my meal, sliding it through the slot. He couldn’t even look me, just mumbled something I couldn’t make out and left. I had no appetite, so I just took the water and. downed it, threw the bottle against the bars. Also, I didn’t trust the food. It could have been poisoned for all I knew. Wouldn’t put it past Sorin after I tried to rip his jugular out.

“Guard! Come here.” I beckoned to him where he stood at some respectful distance from my cell.

“Your Majesty?” he bowed his neck.

I pushed the f

towards him and stood back. “Taste it.”

He gaped at me as if I asked him to kill a child. I lifted my brow to stare him down. “Don’t make me repeat myself.”

Hesitantly he tasted the meat stew. “It’s good, your Majesty.”

I watched him for a few minutes longer. He didn’t drop dead to the floor.

“And the rest.” I insisted.

He tasted the mushrooms and the other vegetables. “It all seems fine, your Majesty. Tasty.”

I bent down to take the tray but when I looked up, he was clutching his throat, gagging, making awful

chocking noises. His face turned blueish-purple, and foam escaped from his mouth. His eyes rolled to the back of his head, and he collapsed in front of my cell.

“Well, seems I am not so paranoid after all.”
