Chapter 174

Chapter 24 Ledger

I wake up with a nasty headache and my body hurts all over. The sounds of voices arguing nearby makes the throb- bing even more intense and it's all I can do not to claw at my head until the pain goes away. Somehow, I fall back into a deep sleep and when I wake up next, some of the pain is still there but it's tolerable. I sit up and look at my surroundings. I'm in my room back at home in England and I'm trying to re- member how I got back here.

Wait a minute... how did I know that this was my room and that I'm in England? Oh my God, I've got my memory back! I remember everything; everything down to the very last mo- ment before waking up here! Cici and Spencer. Oh God, where is Spencer? I go to stand up, but I get dizzy right away. Damn, what the fuck did they use on us? I try using a spell to get me back to normal, but it doesn't work. Cursing, I remem- ber now, Randy and Ronny, the Mitchell brothers; they sy- phoned my magic right after they beat me within an inch of my life. I remember how we were arguing about the Dark Moon pack. I was trying to lead them away, telling them that we had the wrong pack, but Randy had snuck behind me and hit me over the head. Suddenly I see clubs appear in their hands and they start beating me with them. The bastards were laughing the whole time and chanting for me to die, and that I was nothing but a spoiled brat who needed to be taught a lesson. A voice inside of me growls, startling me, but then I remember my wolf. Closing my eyes, I concentrate on the presence within.

'Hello, what's your name?'

I get more growling.

'It's okay boy, I'm your human. You have been sleeping for a very long time, but now I want you to wake up. You are my wolf, are you not?'

'You are Ledger, my human.'

'Yes, I am, and you are my wolf, but I don't know your name.'

'I am Ares.'

'Ah, like the God of War?'

'I am no God, but I am a killing machine when it comes to war. Tell me human, where are my mates? I do not feel them anymore.'

'That's what I'm going to replace out. I just woke up myself. Cici and Rani are back in the states but as for Spencer and Sterling, I'm not sure what happened to them after Randy and Ronny attacked.' 'I feel Alpha Duke close by...'

'You do? Damn, they must have taken Declan too; this isn't good.' I say more to myself but then realize that I said it to Ares as well, 'We need to come up with a plan. Father will never let me leave if he believes I have reverted to my werewolf side. Somehow, I will have to convince him that I still want to be a Shikari.'

'He will sense me, Ledger. He may lock us up like he did your mother.'

That's right. I had forgotten that I had found out shortly before I had left for the states that my mother is locked up somewhere. I had grown up hating her because I believed that she left me and my father. I was never told about my werewolf side or that my mother is a shifter. I didn't learn that little bit until I met my mates, but I did replace out that my mother had never left us but that my father had her locked up some- where.

I'm not sure if he found out that I knew of my mother's im- prisonment and that's why he sent me to the states, but it was pretty coincidental that it just so happened that only a few days after replaceing out my mother's fate, I was sent away: and with dumb and dumber no less.

'So, how am I supposed to go near my father without him replaceing out about you?'

'Silver. You must replace some pure silver and put it on. It will hurt like a son of a bitch but as long as you wear it, it will keep me back and he shouldn't be able to sense me.'

'I don't want to force you back just when you are finally able to come forward Ares.'

'Thank you for thinking of my needs, but I know that this isn't about me right now. Our species is at stake, and I must do what needs to be done. You must play nice with your fa- ther in order to free our Alpha. He will use the King to trap the Queen, and that can never happen.'

'How do you know so much if you have been dormant all this time?' I ask him. He just woke up and he already knows far more than I do.

My wolf chuckles, 'This isn't my first rodeo, human, and you're not my first human. I've been around almost since the beginning of time. My line goes back to the Dire wolves.'

I frown for a moment, 'Are you saying we are like our Queen?'

'Yes and no, we are cousins to the Dire wolf, we don't have their powers, but we have their strength, and we are much stronger than the regular shifters. You also have witch in you, so I guess you can say that we are as powerful as the Queen, but she will always beat us in everything once she learns how to use all of the powers bestowed upon her.'

'What happens to you if I were to get my magic back?'

'I am here to stay, Ledger. The spell that was keeping me at bay has been broken, so even when you get yours back, I will remain.'

'That's good to hear because I don't think I can give you up now that I have you, and I definitely can't give up my mates.'

'Thank you, you're not so bad yourself, human. Now, replace the silver and then go replace your father. The faster we can replace the Alpha and get our magic back, the faster we can get home.'

I know exactly what I can wear that is made of all silver, and now I wonder if there is a reason that my father had made it into silver. I rummage through my drawer and replace exactly what I'm looking for. I had taken it off when I had found out about my father's betrayal over my mother. It's a silver bracelet that he had made and given me for my eighteenth birthday. The inscription read, 'My son, my heir, my heart'.

I have just clasped the bracelet back on and flinched at the slight sting, when a knock sounds on my door. Walking over to it, I shake out my wrist and then prepare myself for whoever is on the other side of the door.

'Ares, are you there?' I get no answer, which only means. that the bracelet is working. Opening the door, I come face to face with the one person that I really don't want to see at the moment, "Hello Father." "Ledger, I'm so glad to see that you are awake. How are you feeling?"

"I'm doing just fine, why do you ask?"

"The Mitchell brothers said that you had amnesia. That you had injured yourself and couldn't remember anything. They told me how the wolves captured you but that they were able to try and make a deal in order for your return, only to capture the King himself."

I scoff, "Well, as you can see, I'm perfectly fine. I mean, I was injured and actually, the wolves took me in and nursed me back to health, but I was never their prisoner." My father knew my views on the wolves before, so I can't pretend that I hate them now, but I still have to play it safe. "Where are the ugly bastards anyway? The fuckers syphoned my magic and I want it back!"

My father's face pales a bit, "They what?"

"They took my magic after they clubbed me to near death. They are the ones that caused my injury."

My father's face is turning a deep red, "Those two fuckers will pay for touching a hair on your head! They were supposed to protect you!"

I snicker, "I suggest you replace better guards next time." I reach out and squeeze my father's shoulder, "It's good to be home, though, let me tell you!"

Chuckling, my father places his arm around my shoulder and starts walking us down the hall, "It's good to have you back home, son." 2 Your thoughts? =)
