The Alpha’s Mute Mate -
Episode 16
BROOKE
That wasn’t very pleasant.
Everyone was staring at me.
But that girl, she was so rude and evil. She reminded me of Madison in some way.
“You okay, Brooke?” asks Daisy from behind me.
I ran back to my room and lay on the bed. Daisy walked in behind me and sat on the bed with her head leaning against the headboard.
I rolled onto my back and glanced at her. She stared at me, and I couldn’t help but smile at her.
I pushed myself up and sat for a moment. I turned my head to the window and noticed the sun was out; it was bright.
I got up from bed and walked to the window. I saw the guy with the rude girl.
After a few moments, the guy ran back into the house, but she was still there, staring at him with a smile.
I looked at her; she looked familiar but not like Daisy did. Something about her made me feel uneasy.
Suddenly, she looks at the window I’m staring from; she stops smiling and glares at me.
“What’s wrong, Brooke?” asked Daisy. She walks over to me and looks out the window. She sees that girl looking toward us.
Daisy stares back, and I can sense her getting intense, but she growls loudly.
“Stay away from her, Brooke. She’s bad news,” she says.
I looked at Daisy. I leaned over to the dresser and took the notebook and pen. “Why?” I wrote.
She smiles. “She is just bad news; she likes causing trouble and other stuff. You stick with me or someone you know; she will leave you alone,” she says.
After a few moments, Daisy looks blankly at the window but shakes her head. “I have to go and see my brother for a few minutes. Will you be okay on your own?” she asked.
I nod to her.
She leaves, leaving me with my thoughts.
I walked over to the table and sat down. I was still holding my notebook. I take a blank page from the back of the notebook, place the pen on the paper, and start drawing.
I used to draw as a child, and my mum told me I was like an artist. Austin bought me a drawing pad, which I used to leave under my mattress, not for Aubrey would replace. I must have been drawing for a while, as there was a knock at the door.
I walked over and was about to open it when the person pushed back on the door and came inside, making me stumble. The door slams shut behind them as they grab me before I fall on my arse and push me up against the wall with their hand around my throat, squeezing slightly.
I looked back on seeing the girl from earlier.
“Well, you must be the stupid mate,” she said. “The one who can’t speak.”
I looked at her in shock. I started to shake. What the hell have I ever done to her? How the hell does she know about me?
She starts to laugh. “Pathetic, pathetic human,” she says with a snarl.
I could feel her tightening her hand around my throat; the pressure on my throat got tighter, and it was getting harder to breathe.
I shake my head, but it only makes her laugh even more. “Scream,” she laughs. “Oh yeah, you can’t. You have no voice,” she says.
She lets me go. I slid to the floor, gasping for air.
She kneels so she is at eye level with me.
“Now listen here stupid. I’m with Hudson, not you. I will have him, not you,” she says through gritted teeth. She pulls me by my hair, so I am thoroughly looking at her. The pain coming from my head is unbearable, but I can feel some of my hair coming out with her grip. “You are nothing, a no one. No one wants you here.”
She holds my hair back as she gets up, making me get to my knees. She pulls her hand back and pulls it into a fist. She punches me straight in the face; I fall back onto the floor. She starts to laugh; she kicks me in the stomach and throws more punches at my head.
After a few minutes, she stops and heads for the door.
“Remember, he’s mine,” she says as she leaves the room. I stared at the door as she had just left. I slowly got up, but I quickly moved to the door. I lock it but slide down it till I hit the floor. Why would I want to go near Hudson? He doesn’t want anything to do with me, and he doesn’t even know me.
I stayed there for a while and sat behind the door, but a few tears slipped down my face. I never wanted any of this. I never wanted to be here, and I don’t know anyone. Only a few people have been friendly to me, but that doesn’t change anything.
A knock at the door startled me, but I didn’t open it.
“Brooke, it’s me, Daisy. Can you let me in?” she asked.
I don’t move; all I do is close my eyes, and lean my head on the door.
My face started to hurt. I stayed calm and waited for her to leave.
After a few more knocks and asking to open the door, she leaves with a heavy sigh.
“I will see you later, I guess,” she says as she walks away. I heard her footsteps drift away from outside the door.
I slowly get up and head to the bathroom to assess what’s been done to me. I looked in the mirror and noticed a bruise forming under my eye. I pulled up my dress to see the damage from the beating. I have a few bruises on my side too. My body was starting to look like a rainbow of colors.
I can’t help but think the girl’s right. I am pathetic and weak; who would want me around? They would have to protect me all the time. I am helpless as I have never been taught how to fight.
I pulled my dress down and tried to make sure I looked decent, but I couldn’t even cover up the bruise on my eye.
I sigh, but a tear slides down my face.
I need to get out of this house and away from these people.
I need to plan my escape.
Then an idea formed in my head.
