Episode 47

BROOKE

I had to show him the memory, he wouldn’t look at me. He didn’t want to believe what he did.

I stare out of the window but soon realize that everyone else has gone but I knew I wasn’t alone, I could feel someone behind me, Hudson. I could feel his eyes in the back of my head.

“Brooke,” he says quietly “Can we talk please?”

I carry on looking through the window. He moves closer to me and stands by the side of me but places his hand on my arm and turns me to face him, there is a slight tingle going through me but I keep calm “Please Brooke I want to tell you something.”

I look up at him, I can feel Willow close by “Listen to him Brooke” she says in a whisper.

I nod for him to talk. Hudson smiles and moves his hand to point to the couch, I walk first and he follows taking our seats on the couch, he sits next to me.

He doesn’t look at me; his head facing the front as his hands go to his lap, he looks like he is fighting with himself.

He sighs.

“Before Jackson met your mother, we had a gamma here called Alfred,” he says and looks over to me “He was our trainer and teacher in the school, he would always talk about humans, telling everyone that they were weak and useless. I believed him as he was the one who brought me up when my father was away a lot especially when there were rogue attacks happening. He was like a mentor to me if you call it that” he says with annoyance in his voice.

I look back at him but he sighs once again “Well over the years, every human that was mated to a wolf within the pack he would make a big show of how weak the human was, he would make an experiment that he knew a human couldn’t do and make them try it. My father never knew this was going on as he was away a lot and my mother was busy with making sure the pack was running well. Well this happened a lot but when your dad brought your mum back here and we thought she was human we were stunned. I never talked her, I kept my distance.”

I touch his arm “What happened?” I mouth to him.

He looks at me “He drummed it into my head that humans were weak so when you were born and you smelt human I was disgusted, I didn’t want anything to do with you.” He says “I know I was always mean towards you. Daisy never believed in that sort of thing, she fell in love you and was determined to make you her best friend.”

I sigh but he carries on “I was a fool but one day my father witnessed something that both Alfred and I did when he came back which made him angry. I didn’t take part but Alfred made a human do something that was out of their element which they got them seriously injured due to it. My father was furious and made us go to his office. My father told us that he had gotten world of the little stunts that Alfred was doing and he banished him from the pack that night, not only did he made humans feel unsafe but he was also a traitor to the pack as he informed him that he had someone spying on him that he was the cause of the rogue attacks that were happening on the pack.”

He looks at me “Brooke, I was a foul to believe Alfred but when he was banished, my father didn’t like the way I was. He told me that he was going to send me away as he was disappointed in me which was hard to hear. He sent me to the pack where I trained, but when the alpha heard of my actions towards the humans he made me do paperwork with Amy” he said.

I feel uneasy by all this “Let him talk” says Willow.

I look back at him and he turns to face me on the couch “I was a d**k towards her, she would tell you. I made it clear that I never liked her but one night at an event that the alpha was holding, she was the only one that would sit with me and we talked. I only said a few words but over the following weeks I started to notice how much there was towards humans. She made me see that” he says.

I feel hurt by this as it should have been me to make him change not another woman.

Willow is quiet in my head but Hudson looks at me “Brooke I’m being honest with you” he says and places his hand on my knee which I move away. I look at him but the hurt in his eyes makes it clear that my action hurt him. I look around and replace some paper and pen on the desk; I get up and walk to the desk grabbing the things. I took a seat on the chair behind the desk and started to write.

I could feel his eyes on me, the whole time.

After a few seconds, I handed the paper to him. It read “I appreciate the honesty but this is not making me feel any better, you should have trusted me. Even though I’m not a human I would have wanted to change your mind not her. But that explains how you got better but why did you reject me when you were with Madison, you must have known who I was.”

He looks up at me “Brooke, I didn’t fall for her because I wanted to. I fell for who she was at the time. As for Madison, it was around the time before Alfred was banished a few months before hand. He introduced me to Madison and told me she was someone he met, he wanted me to seduce her and replace out what she knew about Aubrey and Jackson but when I was there with her, Asher only caught your scent but it was very faint. He said mate, when I saw you I didn’t know it was you. I was ashamed that you were a human and you were skinny at the time” he says and moves closer to me, he kneels down in front of me “Brooke, I didn’t realize it was you until I saw you in the hospital bed. I didn’t see your scar on your neck. The scent we smelt that night was so faint that it could have been coming from a dying flower in the house but when I came to save you, your scent was strong it was like it was calling out to me” he says placing his hand on my hand “Brooke, I never meant those horrible things I said as a child and back at that house. I was the weak one not you, I want to make it right with you, I want to show you the true me as the boy and man I should have been back then.”

I don’t say anything but Hudson looks at me “I know you need time to think about everything I just said but I want us to get to know each other, work on being mates. I want to make it right with you” he says.

I give him a small smile and nod.

I think if I didn’t I think Willow would have jumped out and told him herself as she was watching everything.

He smiles back and he gets up, stretches his legs out “I will show you to your……..” he says but I shake my head “My mum’s room” I mouth.

Hudson smiles and nods “Ok, to your mum’s I will show you where she is staying,” he says and walks towards the door.

I get up and take the piece of paper I wrote on earlier with me by placing it in my pocket. I follow him to the door.

I need to talk to my mum about everything. Something doesn’t add up on a few things and I need to know if I’m imagining everything.
