She whimpered, then receded, probably trying to replace Rome like she often did during times of confusion or when she needed an escape.

Mick started to notice my declining enthusiasm, and was looking at me with confusion. I tried to smile and play off the pain moving beneath my chest, but then it suddenly got worse and I groaned, reaching up to grip my chest, right over my heart.

That fucking bastard. How the hell did he figure out how to cheat again without a rejection?

"Chloe? Are you okay?" Mick whispered, his face right above mine.

I shook my head, rubbing my chest when the pain got worse.

His eyes widened, like he had suddenly figured out what was wrong with me. When I gritted my teeth together, trying not to scream out from the crippling pain, he lifted me from the stage floor and carried me away. I heard murmuring from the crowd, but then Dave's voice came over the speakers again. I couldn't distinguish his individual words through the pain I was feeling. I couldn't even open my eyes enough to see where we were going.

"What happened? What's wrong with her?" Jamie was somewhere nearby.

"What the hell did you do?" Boyd shouted accusingly at Mick.

When Mick tried to lay me down on a soft surface, his body no longer pressing against mine, the pain got impossibly worse.

"AAGH!" I screamed, reaching for him to bring him back to me. He cursed under his breath, then lifted me to cradle my body in his arms again. It still hurt, but being with him made it bearable.

"I'm so sorry, Chloe," Cortina is hurting too, but it's not as bad as me. SHe rejected Rome, but I have yet to reject Cameron. I couldn't even think about forming the words now. I couldn't make my mind do it to end the pain. "He blocked out Rome. I don't know how he's doing it." I sobbed against Mick's chest. He was rocking me back and forth, whispering comforting words in my ear.

"I'm here, Chloe. Just hold on. I got you."

"WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING TO HER?" Boyd roared.

"Her mate!" Mick yelled. "Her mate is betraying her!"

Everyone went quiet. I could only hear Mick's words as he cooed softly to me over and over again.

"It hurts," I whimpered, though the pain was starting to lessen. It was probably only about three minutes since it started, but the intensity made it feel like it lasted so much longer.

"I know, Chloe. I got you. You're going to be okay." I felt Mick's lips press to my forehead, and then a rush of comfort enveloped me. I didn't feel the sharpness of the pain any more and suddenly felt like I could breathe.

"Chloe!" Rodger came rushing into the dressing room as I managed to pry my eyes open. "Did it stop? The betrayal pains?" He already knew exactly what it was.

"It still hurts," I whispered hoarsely. Mick hugged my body tighter, like he was trying to ward off the pain.

"Poor girl," Rodger brushed his hand over my face. With his touch, a current of magic moved inside of me. I felt slight betrayal pains in the past and Rodger would help me when he noticed, and this was no different. He not only took the pain away, he moved his fingers over my eyes, dragging my eyelids down with them. "Sleep, my child. We will figure out what happened when you wake back up."
