The Alpha's Progeny [The Alpha's #3] -
Chapter 24
MALIK VLADIMIR
“Which cell is he in?” Orpheus asked as he stepped off the bottom step, not stood in the dungeons.
All in all, their dungeons held twenty cells in total, some of which had never been used before.
“The last cell,” Malik chuckled, pointing down the dark hallway to where the cells extended to. The first digit numbered cells started from here while the absolute last one was at the back.
“Great idea!” Orpheus shot him a grin from over his shoulder, quickening his steps as he rushed toward the very last cell at the end of the hallway. “That’s the only cell that has the silver chains. I’ve been meaning to add the silver chains to all the other cells but just haven’t gotten round to it yet.”
“I just wanted to make sure that there was no way of him getting away while I went to get you, you know?” Malik continued keeping up pretences, counting down the remaining cells they had left to walk past. With eight left, there were only a few moments until all was revealed.
“No, it was very good thinking on your part,” his dad continued to praise him, still not aware of what was about to hit him.
“Just don’t try to aggravate him, okay?” Malik warned him. “He’s already in such a shitty mood after everything that I’ve done to him so don’t try to make things worse, okay?”
“I can’t make any promises,” Orpheus chuckled and true to his word, he didn’t hold anything back as he came to a stand in front of the very last cell. “Alpha Marcellus Storm! I never thought I’d be able to get you in one of my dungeons but here you are. While I would have loved to have been the one to put you behind bars, I have to say, I’m rather proud of my son for doing the job that I couldn’t do myself.”
When Orpheus turned his head to grin at his son, a proud glint in his eyes, Malik couldn’t bring himself to feel bad. Not after learning of everything his dad had done. And top of that, lying about it all to make himself to look the victim.
But most of all, it was because of his mum that he couldn’t forgive his dad.
“How did you manage to get the chains on him without burning yourself?” Orpheus asked, briefly glancing at his hands before returning his attention to the wolf curled up in a ball on the other side bars. The person was sat with his back pressed up the wall, his knees tucked into his chest and his face buried in his arms. There were short silver chains attached to both of his wrists, extending out from the walls.
“I wore gloves,” Malik shrugged. “Thankfully, he was knocked out when I was chaining him up so it wasn’t too difficult.”
“Good, good,” Orpheus grinned, reaching out to unlock the cell and let himself in.
“What are you doing?” Malik asked even though he already knew what was going on. “Are you sure going in is such a good idea? Like I said before, I’ve already aggravated him enough.”
“Don’t worry. I just want to catch a proper look at him. I never thought I’d live to see this day,” he cheered to himself as he walked further into the cell, slowly approaching the wolf he believed to be a fellow Alpha.
Malik merely hummed in response as he watched his dad walk further into the cell. His hands itched to get to work but it wasn’t quite time yet. A few more moments but every second counted here. A second too early or too late and Orpheus would be able to foil the entire plan.
The moment Orpheus came to a stop in front of the wolf, Malik caught his eyes from between his legs. The wolf – or more specifically, the human that he had picked up on the side of the road – fisted his hand around the needle that he had been keeping hidden in his arms at the same time Malik rushed into the cell.
The same time that Orpheus was injected with wolfsbane, Malik pushed him over. Both of them sprang into action as his dad tumbled to the ground. Grunts and growls escaped him but with the wolfsbane pumping through his veins, already going into effect, there wasn’t much that he could do.
The human dropped the chains and rushed out of the cell, clearing the way for Malik to start on the next part of the plan; arguably the most important part of the plan.
“Malik? What are you doing?” Orpheus gurgled, his words slightly slurred as Malik forced him into a sitting position, propping him up against the wall behind him.
“The council should never have let you out of prison in the first place,” Malik growled as he rushed to put back on the silver-resistant gloves before chaining up his dad.
From even standing in such close proximity to the silver, Malik could feel the weaking effects but he gritted his teeth and pushed through until finally, his dad was chained up in silver.
He took a step back and chuckled as Orpheus looked around, confused as to what had happened in the short span of those few seconds.
“How could you do this to me?” Orpheus called out to him in a quiet whisper but Malik had already walked out of the cell and locked the door behind him.
“How could you have done everything you did to my mum?” Malik spat back before turning around and walking down the dungeon hallway without so much as a pitiful glance back at his dad from over his shoulder.
Once the deed was done, Malik let himself out of the dungeon with the human following closely behind.
“Thank you so much for your help,” he grinned at the human that he had picked up on the side of the road on the way here. He was homeless and hadn’t seen the silver shine of a coin in several years so when Malik offered him an abundant sum, the man had been willing to do pretty much he wanted. “Here’s the money that I promised you,” he slipped his hands in his pockets to retrieve the lump of cash that he had teased the human with. “I’ve thrown in a little extra for doing such a good job.”
“Thank you, Malik,” the human grinned a toothy grin, quick to accept the money before taking a few steps back. “If you ever need help fooling another Alpha, you know where to replace me.”
Malik chuckled and watched as the human walked away back to where Malik had found him. As he watched the figure disappear into the distance, he reached into his pocket for his phone.
“Mars,” he greeted his uncle who picked up on the first ring.
“Malik? Where are you?” Marcellus called out to him, his tone laced with an abundance of concern. “Ana and I were looking for you all over the pack. What happened? Where did you go?”
“It’s a long story but I don’t have time to get into that right now,” the words rushed out of his mouth as he glanced all around, making sure that there was no one around to hear what he had to say next. “I know that I’m a little early, but the plan worked.”
“What?”
“Some shit happened and I needed to head back to the pack. Sorry for not telling you but I just didn’t have time,” he paused to apologise. “But anyway, I managed to swipe one of your jumpers before leaving.”
“Are you saying what I think you’re saying right now?” Marcellus all but asked, almost as if unable to believe what he was hearing right now.
“Dad fell for it,” Malik couldn’t help but grin despite the strange circumstances. “He picked up on the scent and thought that it was actually you in the cell. We drugged with enough wolfsbane to knock him out for the entire night and he’s in silver chains, as well, so even if it does wear off, there’s no chance he’ll be able to get out of the chains.”
“Executed like a true Alpha!”
Malik remained on the phone with his uncle for a little while longer but the longer he stayed out here, the more chance there was that someone would spot him.
As he had started the plan several days earlier than agreed, Marcellus and Anastasia wouldn’t be able to make it down here straight away. Instead, Malik would need to keep Orpheus locked in the dungeons while he waited for the Alpha and Luna duo to keep up their part of the plan before they could proceed.
It was simply really. If his dad was locked away, then he couldn’t make the sacrifice to Lord Erebus. And no sacrifices meant no reserruction, right?
