Chapter 121

Amber POV

Sophie was trembling, looking incredibly frightened, but I felt calm. Now that I was no longer restrained and was free, Darius would finally get what was coming to him. I wondered if he knew about Sophie. As it was I could hear his shouting and cursing as he began to look for me, smashing doors open and splintering the wood, rather than just opening them nicely. I had locked the door as a precaution but I didn't think that would hold him off for very long.

"Sophie, hide behind the bed" I instructed her, never taking my eyes off of the door.

Sophie obeyed without question. I spared a quick glance at her, and smiled, seeing she'd done what I asked.

There was a loud banging on the door.

"Amber" roared Darius "where are you?"

I opened my mouth. "In here you big blockhead" I snarled.

Silence. Sophie was cowering behind the bed now, very much afraid of Darius, not that I could blame her considering what he had done to her.

Crash. The door splintered open and there was Darius, his eyes pitch black in anger. "Come here" he snapped and I shook my head at him, a smile curving on my lips. I waited for him to rush me, and when he did, I raised my leg and kicked him right in the privates. I heard his howl and gave a wicked grin of satisfaction before shifting into my wolf and running through the door, knowing he wouldn't be able to help himself and would follow me.

I raced downstairs, past curious pack members, and crashed through the front door, sparing a glance behind me. Darius was on my heels, in his giant black wolf form and I continued onto the grounds and then turned around to face him, my lips curled back in a snarl as I growled at him.

He growled back and then we began to warily circle each other. I was counting on the fact that Darius was emotional and apparently a psychopath which meant he would be distracted and not as focused on his fighting. He sure as hell was angry that was for sure. He leaped in mid-air and I dodged, darting to the side and opening my mouth to release a fireball that flew past him, singing his fur as he growled in shock. I didn't even give him time to recover from being stunned, instead releasing a second fireball that hit him directly in his side, causing him to yelp and to frantically shake himself and roll over in an attempt to put the flames out. While he was doing that, I took the time to dart forward and s***h him across his side, before jumping over him and heading toward the outskirts of the forest.

Now he was really pissed but I didn't give a damn. I was angry, furious that he'd kidnapped me in order for his own gain. How he could have thought I would marry him, I had no idea. I spared a thought for Sophie who was probably still hiding inside the pack house, in fear for her own life. She had endured so much at his hands. Darius leaped in mid-air and I met him, frantically clawing and scratching at him, my jaws clamping onto his neck for dear life.

I wanted to kill him. My jaws clamped down even tighter, as he frantically tried to buck me off to no avail. I bit down harder causing blood to trickle down. He growled, but I was firm, biting down hard, and eventually, he conceded. I rolled off of him and watched as he began to shift back to human form.

"Amber" he coughed and I glared, shifting back into my own human form and watching him carefully. One wrong move and I'd use my vampire side to drain his blood from his body. He awkwardly got to his feet. I looked at him, seeing just how pathetic he really was as he put out a trembling hand toward me.

"Please" he whined, "Amber don't do this."

Even now, he wanted to be spared I thought grimly, but that wasn't going to happen. Not after Sophie, not after he'd kidnapped me. He would always remain a threat, for as long as he lived.

His eyes widened and he stared beyond me and I stiffened as the two most wonderful scents in the whole wide world came drifting toward me.

Stefan came barreling past, making a beeline straight for Darius, gripping him around the neck and holding him tightly, pushing Darius's head to the side, and then before I could so much as blink, Stefan bit him and began to drain him dry, like I'd been contemplating doing. Rowan's arms came around me from behind, hugging me close as I breathed in his scent, relishing the feel of his skin against mine. "How are you doing princess" he murmured as I smiled and leaned back into him.

"Better now you're here" I commented and sighed, feeling loved.

Stefan dropped Darius's body to the ground and I winced as it hit the floor with a large thud. We heard a loud scream come from behind us.

"Darius" and then Luna Marian came rushing toward us, sobbing, tears trailing down her cheeks as she embraced the cold, still, lifeless body of her son.

Alpha John, sprinted toward us, his eyes wide as he took in the scene. He seemed to be calm and level-headed while his wife was glaring daggers at us. Stefan still hadn't moved from his position, instead watching the Luna and Alpha with an almost detached look on his face.

"What have you done" Luna Marian screamed, rocking back and forth as she held her son to her chest. "What have you done?" she sobbed, looking at me.

I flinched but Alpha John had a knowing look in his eyes. "He kidnapped her, Marian, what did you think was going to happen?" was all he said, as he gazed down sadly at his son.

I inhaled sharply. So both of them knew what had happened. We were joined by another presence, Sophie coming out of hiding as Luna Marian gaped.

"You're dead" she stammered and Sophie shook her head.

"The moon goddess granted me another chance to live. I'm alive and I'm going back to the castle with Amber" she told them with a protective hand against her stomach.

Luna Marian paled. "You will never get your hands on my child" Sophie continued quietly "and I suggest you don't even attempt to bring lawyers into it."

Luna Marian looked towards me and I put Rowan's hand on my bump. "This baby is Rowan's and King Stefan's and has nothing to do with your son," I said firmly, watching her eyes fill with hatred and contempt for me.

"I'll kill you" Luna Marian spat, standing up and letting her son fall back to the ground, her eyes fixated on me "I'll kill you for killing my son" she snarled.

Alpha John put a cautious hand on his wife's arm "they didn't do anything wrong. They defended their mate who was in danger. I told you before that this would only end in trouble and it has. You cannot blame them for what's happened and I won't let you" he said firmly.

She gaped at her husband. I was impressed. This was the first time I had heard Alpha John tell his wife in no uncertain terms what was happening. It would do her some good, I thought slightly amused, to be told no. She looked hesitant like she was going to shift anyway and I tensed but in the end, she flopped back down to the ground and sat beside her son, crying and wailing.

"Alpha John, I never wanted it to come to this," I told the man apologetically. Despite it all, Darius's father was a decent man and he'd always shown me kindness. I regretted that Darius had to be killed but I wasn't sorry it happened.

"I know, Amber, I know," John said remorsefully, before walking over to his wife and placing a hand on her shoulder. She continued to cry and I saw tears trailing down John's cheeks as well as he wiped his eyes.

"I think we should leave," I said quietly to Rowan who nodded.

Rowan dropped his arms and I bolted straight to Stefan, flinging myself into his arms and embracing him tightly. I was cuddled up to him, clutching at him like a koala and I closed my eyes, breathing in his scent as Stefan hugged me tightly back. "You gave us quite a scare" he murmured into my ear as I gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Rowan watched us longingly and I made a movement with my hand, gesturing him to come closer so I could hug him as well. Sophie was watching us with a mixture of fascination and awe.

"I'm so jealous" Sophie squealed as we made our way toward King Stefan's car. "Two mates, can you believe it. I mean, most people get one, but you" she sighed shaking her head "get two and one is a vampire King!"

I laughed. "It's not as good as you make it out to be" I teased as Stefan got in the driver's seat and Rowan got in the back with me leaving Sophie to get in the front. "Both of them have to share me for one."

"It's worth it," Rowan said smugly, leaning against me in the car while Stefan frowned, clearly upset that I wasn't sitting with him.

"Sometimes it is" Stefan agreed before shooting Rowan a look of daggers "other times I wish to kill you," he said honestly, which made Rowan's mouth gape open, and Sophie and I giggle.

I leaned forward to talk to Sophie. "Mum is going to be so ecstatic when she sees you, Sophie! She's been so upset about your death you know. I can't wait to see the look on her face when she sees you come out of the car! She's going to go ballistic" I added. Sophie inhaled sharply. "I miss her so much," she said slowly "and you. I can't believe the moon goddess has given me a second chance" she whispered.

I wished I could hug her again but instead, I settled for giving her a pat on her arm to comfort her. "I'm just happy to have you with me again," I said honestly.

Stefan started the car. "So are we going straight back to the castle?" he asked with a look over his shoulder.

"Home" I corrected him "we're going home. All of us."

"Home" agreed Rowan with a grin.

"Home" repeated Sophie "I like the sound of that."

"Home," said Stefan pleased "where we all belong" he added.
