The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1721 Sheryl's Anger

Charles chose not to drive away. He couldn't leave without achieving anything. So he sat in his car and thought about what happened in the Dream Garden. He tried his best to come up with a solution. The moment that Charles decided to drive to the kindergarten, Isla showed up at the Cloud Advertising Company.

Charles seized this chance. He immediately got out of his car and ran to Isla.

In fact, Isla had just come back from kindergarten. She had been looking for Shirley in every corner of the school, but she found nothing. She thought that she might ask someone to help her investigate, so she had returned to the company. She hadn't expected to see Charles at all.

"What are you doing here?"

"Is Sher in the office?" Charles asked Isla anxiously, ignoring her question.

"How am I supposed to know her whereabouts? She is your wife." Isla was annoyed with Charles so she rolled her eyes at him.

"I'm not joking, Isla. Shirley is gone. She's missing. Don't you know about that?"

Charles held Isla's arm as he felt so nervous and worried. He knew why Isla was giving him the cold shoulder. But he didn't have time to care about that. To replace Shirley was the most important thing to him. Meanwhile, Isla hadn't known that Charles already knew that Shirley was missing too. He was Shirley's father, so he had the right to know. However, as long as Isla thought about what Charles and his mother did to Sheryl, Isla couldn't help but be mad at him. She really couldn't calm herself down and talk to him.

"Why the hell would I know about that?"

Isla couldn't help but get more annoyed. She was getting impatient as time went by.

At that moment, Charles realized that he wouldn't get any answers from Isla. So he was left with no choice but to give up. He turned around and headed to his car, wanting to leave.

"Why are you in such a hurry? Is Leila waiting for you at the Dream Garden? You can't wait to see her, right?" Isla sneered at Charles.

Charles, as it turned out, was already frustrated. But he got more annoyed when he heard Isla. He turned around and wanted to retort. He opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

"Don't you dare to look at me like that! I am not afraid of you. Don't brag to me that you're the president of the Shining Company! I am not your client, Charles. I don't need to listen to you. And don't you ever hurt Sheryl again, Charles! You will have to pay for that!" Isla snapped at Charles and went back to her car.

Charles looked back at Isla, and suddenly he felt utterly lost. He had a lot on his plate. All that he could do now was pray and hope that he and Sheryl wouldn't end up divorcing. It was the last thing he wanted to happen.

He even felt more sorry about Sheryl when he heard that Isla sneered at him. He wished he could replace Sheryl as soon as possible and make sure Shirley was okay. Otherwise, he would regret it for the rest of his life.

Isla bit her lips and thought about a lot of things. Then she asked Aron, "Sheryl wouldn't answer my call. What should I do?"

Isla was like an ant on a hot pot as her eyes filled with tears. Aron felt sorry for Isla and grabbed her hands to comfort her, "Don't worry. Nothing bad will happen. Let's go to Sheryl's house to see if she is there. Maybe Shirley is already back home!"

Isla's eyes lit up when she heard Aron. She nodded at Aron and asked him to drive faster.

"Calm down. Put your seatbelt on. We're going now."

Aron was a little anxious, but Isla didn't notice that. After Isla fastened her seat belt, he drove to Sheryl's house.

Sheryl left the Dream Garden and realized that her phone had run out of battery.

She decided to go back home to charge her phone, in case Shirley tried to call her. When Sheryl opened the door, the first thing she saw was her children. They were safe and sound!

They were sitting on the sofa and telling Alex a story they had learned at school. They were smiling happily. Clearly, no one had kidnapped her children.

"You're already home, Mom?" Clark was the first one to notice Sheryl.

Sheryl burst into tears the moment she heard Clark's voice. Tears were rolling down from her face as she ran to Shirley.

"Shirley, who brought you home?" Sheryl sobbed as she was confused.

Shirley heard her mother's question, so she ran to her. She innocently asked, "Are you and Dad okay?"

"Mom, where is Dad?" Why aren't you back home together?" Clark asked and looked at Sheryl. He walked towards Sheryl and grabbed her hand.

All of a sudden, Sheryl understood everything. She realized that Clark and Shirley had teamed up together against her.

Sheryl pushed her children away. She looked at them in disbelief. There was sadness and disappointment in her eyes.

Clark had never seen his mother like this. It made him realize that what he did had hurt his mother's feelings.

"What's wrong, mom? Tell me." Shirley was scared by Sheryl's look.

Sheryl took a step back and yelled at Clark and Shirley, "Shirley wasn't missing, right?!"

This was an emotional roller-coaster for Sheryl. Alex noticed this but didn't know what had happened. All she could do was to pull the children into her arms. She was afraid that they might get hurt. "Ms. Xia, what happened?" Alex asked carefully.

Sheryl was on the verge of collapsing. She ignored Alex.

'Why?

Why is everyone lying to me?'

Sheryl asked herself and couldn't help but shake her head. She didn't understand why all of these bad things would happen to her. What had she done wrong?

"Tell me why!" Sheryl asked Clark and Shirley with tears in her eyes.

Sheryl walked to the children and started to swat their butts before they could answer her question and explain their side.

She was so angry that she hit them very hard. She didn't care that she was hurting them right now.

Clark and Shirley had never been treated like this before. They got very scared. Shirley was crying out loud.

Shirley was always a good girl, and she behaved well. This was the first time that she was being hit by her mother. Her mother, in Shirley's eyes, had turned into a completely different person now, and it scared the shit out of her. She was crying very hard. Shirley wasn't doing well. Her face had turned red because she was crying so hard that she couldn't even catch her breath.

Clark remained silent. He bit his lips as he was trying his best to hold back his tears. He was stronger than his little sister.

"Ms. Xia, stop beating them. You're hurting them," Alex persuaded Sheryl. She tried her best to stop her.

Sheryl listened to Alex and stopped. She felt sorry for her children and instantly regretted what she had done.
