Ronald must have been truly exhausted.
After just one round, he curled up with Kari and fell into a deep sleep.
Kari was tired too, but her mind was surprisingly clear. The dim light bathed them, making Ronald look even more handsome.
Ronald was not someone to mess with.
Everyone in Imperial City knew that Ronald was the kind who would hold a grudge. He wouldn't hesitate to cross even his own father, let alone a stranger. Years of fighting his way through life had honed his fierce spirit.
The outside world dared not provoke him, yet Kari felt that deep down, he was all gentleness. She moved closer and kissed his chin, whispering "Goodnight."
...
Brittany had gone to bed early last night and was up with the dawn.
She noticed Kari was missing and was puzzled.
"Hannah, where's Kari?"
Pregnant Hannah, now in her third trimester, had been sleeping lightly in her Bri-jeweled Studio.
"She got a call last night and left," Hannah struggled to sit up. "Probably went to see Ronald."
Brittany raised an eyebrow, "Let's head downstairs."
Downstairs in the dining room, Daniel was having breakfast, with the servants busy around him.
Having returned to Imperial City, Daniel was thriving, enjoying a bowl of fish soup with evident relish.
Brittany came downstairs to replace her son looking so well-behaved, her heart melted.
"Morning, Daniel."
""Morning, Mom."
"Morning, Auntie."
Daniel greeted them cheerfully. Brittany walked over and pinched his cheek, "I heard from the butler that you've been having desserts every day?" Daniel's face fell a bit, "Abby made them herself."
He had to eat them!
Brittany was concerned about Daniel's teeth, "Just in moderation."
Seeing she wasn't stopping him, Daniel grinned, "Okay!"
After a hearty breakfast, Daniel was off to school with the butler.
Derek and Hannah left together. Before leaving, Brittany and Derek discussed the wedding, "Are you and Hannah really not planning a wedding?"
Hannah didn't like ostentation.
But a wedding should at least have a ceremony.
Derek sighed, "If she doesn't want one, we'll go with her wishes. If she changes her mind later, I'll give her the grandest wedding."
Brittany knew Derek always spoiled Hannah, "Alright."
Isaac finished his breakfast and went upstairs. Brittany entered the study to replace him working. Raising an eyebrow, she said, "Didn't you say you were planning to hand over all your work to Noel?"
"That was the plan."
Isaac stood up, taking her hand, "But Grandeur Capital has been swamped lately, so I'm helping out."
Brittany was nearly four months pregnant now.
Her belly was starting to show, and Isaac watched nervously, fearing any mishap.
"In another half a month, I'll take a break. I'll stay with you, peacefully waiting for the baby."
Brittany was gently pushed onto the sofa, "Okay."
"Kari left last night."
"I know."
Isaac had a servant bring Brittany a glass of freshly squeezed juice, "I ran into her last night after the meeting." "How much do you know about the Malone family?"
"Not much."
The Malone family had started in the shadows but had since gone legitimate, having little to do with the Salter family. "The Malone family disapproves?"
"Yes." Brittany felt a bit troubled, "Ronald is already the heir, but still under others' thumbs. It's quite upsetting." Isaac massaged her back gently, "Let's not worry about the Malone family. Why not think about names for the baby?"
"I asked Dad, and since I've been
